Fatcatsplat
We're looking to have the wedding rings of several generations of our family melted together and made into a new band for me and the missus and some little bits for the girls to have as keepsakes. Can anyone recommend a jeweller that can take commissions like this in the South please. Have had a look on the web and seem to just come up with arty farty poncey designers that want to charge the earth for a chat.

malkiserow
If you want the job done properly... you HAVE to come to the Jewelry Quarter in Birmingham. Loads of good companies, visit the museum of jewelry etc. A great day out from Essex and a job done by great craftsmen/women B) Oh god - I am sounding like the tourist board! Fatcatsplat
Thanks folks - Have called a few of these and they look exactly what i need. Price estimates are surprisingly low as well - About 50% of what I'd anticipated!!
Mungler
That's because they are planning on having it away with half the gold content. Get the core component rings and or stones weighed and agreed before proceeding.
Fatcatsplat
They did say that we would lose about 10 to 15% of the gold with filing, polishing etc which makes sense - To be fair, all they would need to do is pinch a bit of the 22 carat, replace it with 9 or 14 carat out of Elizabeth Duke and i would be none the wiser!! Dancer
Hi all, I'm hoping you can help. I saw in this post someone mentioned 'Tiny', a specialist jeweller in Colchester. Well, I really need to get in contact with him, as he could help! Here's the situation: 30 years ago, my Dad bought a Teviotdale figurine of an owl on a windowsill from Tiny, when he was t/a private collection in Red lion walk. He bought it as a surprise for my Mum, who loved it while they were in the shop one day. He bought it for £1500, it was made by Barbara Edlmann and on the card and etched on the back of the piece it says it's #10 of 50 special edition and was made in 1985. It was of huge sentimental value, my Dad even built a fireplace with a special alcove for it. My Dad passed away and had this on his house insurance as a named piece, valued at £5210 at the time he took out the policy years ago. Sadly, Dad passed away in 2011, so the fact that it has been broken is an even bigger deal to my Mum. Still, I am trying to sort out the insurance for her, so at least she feels like my Dad is 'looking after her' at a time when financially she's struggling. Every cloud and all that. Anyway, Direct line have said it's worth between £60-£90 )!!!) and they are prepared to give Mum £1000 less a £200 excess and won't do any more unless they can get proof of value. My Dad isn't here to find out where or who valued it and it looks like the insurance company wins. I don't know if there's anything he can do, but I thought it was worth a shot getting in touch with him. Thanks in advance for any help you can give and sorry for rambling.
