new pup

meet guss, Im new to gundogs so looking for advice, he's about 12 weeks with plenty of ftc in his lineage, has anyone any advice they would like to share concerning day to day puppy rearing, such as recommended foods, books, insurance, training do's and donts, in fact any advice you might have,

He is a smart looking fellow.

One of the best books is still training spaniels by Joe Irving .

 

Hunting comes pretty naturally to spaniels so concentrate any early games / play around retrieving but not to the point he gets bored with it .

Cheers fenboy will check out the book, He likes nothing more than finding thrown toys and gets more excited the longer it takes to find, he brings it back to hand so its looking very promising.

you will find out for yourself as how to train him................the only 2 things i would advise on is

 

  1. no tugs of war and constant chewy toys
  2. when its feeding time...use the recall whistle to call him to food

 

the rest is reading up and learning to think like a dog....the training is a 2 way operation...train yourself and the dog

 

 

nice looking dog...............and i bet it will have a great home.........

yes this is the book I followed with my spaniel bitch,I waited 10mths before I started and trained her chapter by chapter,great book....lovely pup ;-)
