Pigeons everywhere

I was driving across South Norfolk into North Suffolk yesterday afternoon to do some wind farm survey work and there were pigeons every where. Dropping into layed barley , wheat and rape fields. must have seen a couple of thousand over a 35 mile drive.

Out of interest I have been surveying an area for the potential wildlife impact of wind farms in North Suffolk for the past 4 months that is full of pigeons and yet to see anyone shooting them or even hear any shots. There is no organised game shooting on the farms so its not a case of keepers wanting the place quiet . One farmer did have a couple of guys shooting game on his farm , but moaned that they never bothered with pigeon and almost begged me to have a go at the pigeons hitting his rape , but it would mean a 120 mile round journey from home and I have more than enough pigeon shooting on my doorsteep. So if any of you boys are looking for pigeon shooting try knocking on a few doors in the Santon- Watersfield area of North Suffolk you might get lucky.

I am set to shoot a woodie or even see one come to it on my permission, there is no bloody tree's around appart from about 1/4 of an acre which i presume isnt enough for them.

I can wait to shoot one as i have never tried eating pigeon and cant wait lol.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thats not lying at all, i have only ever shot one woodie on my permission with the 1/4 acre is wood, that one we ate and that was not that long ago.

My first outing was with a collegue of mine who shoots, it was on his permission which he shoots but the farmer however retains everything shot that is edible, so that fact i had not tried it was not totally incorrect was it
