    Butt pad

If the fitted pad is original its probably curved. To fit a replacement rubber pad you need to straight cut the stock, so maybe you don't need the thinnest available as you can fit - say - 15mm and shorten the stock when straight cutting it to suit.

  6. How old and what sort of weight and statue does your son have? These factors would have a big bearing on what size, weight and power would be suitable to offer.
  7. You get what you pay for. English Sporter is Lyalvale's budget offering - and to get the price components are all lower cost items in the assembly. Cheaper powders detonate fully in the chamber giving a sharp recoil ( Clear winner is another example). Powders like these cause pellet deformation, and ragged edges to pattern definition, plus longer cone-ed shot strings. Result is less effective pellets. Increased recoil also means that gun fatigue can be an issue. What the ESP are good for is your wallet, as they are cheap. Spend not a great deal more, and you can get vastly improved ballistics. The HVE range uses a progressive AA Vectan powder, improved wad, and higher antinomy in the pellets. These all improve perceived recoil - ( softer feeling in the shoulder ), as well as deforming less pellets and throwing a better defined pattern. While others will have their opinions, I am of the view that 24g HVE's out perform 28g ESP, because the improved ballistics have much the same number of effective pellets in the working pattern, less side flyers and fewer trailers, plus added benefit of less recoil, and therefore better ability to put the pattern in the right place ( what its all about really!). Remember that the pattern of a cartridge is the same diameter whether its 24g or 28g, the only difference is density. So a good lighter cartridge can actually have more working pellets in the choke circle and lower grade cartridges can easily loose 20% as side flyers that do nothing. Pound for Pound, I'd suggest that 24g HVE's in the Lyalvale range would be a better choice with not much price differential. If you really must put 28g out there, look for attributes in the cartridge design that gives good patterns and low recoil. Progressive burn powders, good wads, crimp style, and antinomy alloyed shot. Fiocchi are a good choice in that criteria.
  8. Cervellati are Rubber Goods manufacturers in Italy, who make the pads for many gun-makers as original equipment. Cervellati pads can be found many Italian makes including Perazzi, and I've even sold some to Purdy! For a smooth mounting pad consider the Type 68 Diamond Ventilated pad, smooth face. 30mm vulcanised rubber with diamond patterned recoil absorbing ventilation, and very easy to grind to fit. This also is available with a textured surface, and there are also other less thick types. As mentioned by others, they also have their Patent Microcell system, three thickness's and two colours. These take longer to grind and are not available with a fast slip smooth surface, they have a light texture grip.
  9. Surrey Shooting School run by Alex Cobb was formerly known as Woodlands Pursuits. Its a private tuition / corporate ground by appt only. You can't just show and shoot, ring Alex before going - 01293 862216 - it is, however, 40 miles away from Bisley, so not exactly a local alternative What you really need is places like the Headley clayshoot - details of this and several other CPSA affiliated grounds that are open entry are all on the CPSA website. Newdigate CS; Cobham GC; Guildford GC etc Steve Maude runs the shoot inside ATR Pirbright at Mainstone Hill but you need to be a member to go through main gate security, or have made prior arrangements with Steve. Bisley Shooting Ground is only one of 4 clay organisations within Bisley Camp. National clays is cheaper Skeet and Trap; Bisley Gun club DTL only; but there is also the Pay and Play off Queens Rd. Its operated by Bisley Shooting Ground, ask in the clubhouse up by Evans for details, this is much lower costs than accompanied shooting up at the clock tower.
  10. Is this new ( flush type) or old ( short stubby with small exposed end)? I have full sets of 6 replacement aftermarket chokes by Mandel in stock. No key is required, hand tighten. the new Lanber ones I have ex-stock are extended ported £169-00 posted with an MTM choke case - old style ones are plain extended £149-00 posted with an MTM choke case. Other variations or individual chokes available
  11. If you are buying in from a private seller, only one RFD is needed, at your end. Provided that RFD has carriage forward arrangements under one of the dangerous goods schemes such as BASC trade members Parcel Force arrangements, the the GTA's similar arrangements with TNT, then they can arrange collection direct from the seller. Payment arrangements can be protected through "escrow". This is where the buyer deposits the purchase price with a third party, e.g. the RFD, and the funds are released to the seller on good delivery of described goods.
  12. ta, will check that out
  13. What have you? Any area, can RFD collect right gun.
  14. Sent a PM yesterday agreeing to buy, reply awaited.
  15. They come up, but to provide any help you need to specify gun, model and gauge.
  16. Extended chokes give better patterns in the tighter sizes, there will be little difference between a 1/4 flush and a 1/4 extended, but a short Full will deform more pellets to become ineffective side flyers than a longer tube. If you are buying extended, 3/4 and full will give improved patterns - 1/2 maybe a slight improvement, 1/4 and cy. no difference. So, bottom line, is use the money for a decent lesson and hit more as a result. When you are good enough that getting 2 extra per 100 makes you a champion, then its time for a full set of extended. A good lesson can see scores improve 20% immediately, a tinkering with chokes might put 2% on your scores if you are lucky. For world champions, that 2% is crucial, to mere mortals, its irrelevant.
  17. Oh, you are right, its a generic pic of a Lincoln action, the 12g I have left looks the same except says 12/70!!
  18. Most people don't actually have a clue what difference their chokes make, as they have never patterned their guns. testing by BASC's ballistics committee ( there's a report available if you ask for it) on several guns showed that pattern throws from one gun to another, all with tubes denoted the same, were massively different. Choking of a gun is a function of the tube in combination with the load used. Just because it has 3 notches does not mean it throws a 1/2 on the plate. Its one of the most illuminating things you can do - get out with a few different loads, and run through your chokes - see what they REALLY do on a pattern plate. Its a very informative exercise.
  19. For several century's horses have been in battle with cannons blazing nearby, riders shooting while on the saddle, and the horses in question would simply be used to the noise and ignore it. Same applies today, as soon as the horse realises the discharge is not a threat, their heads go down to graze and they ignore the noise. What agitates a horse is always the agitated owners flapping about and sending vibes to the horses who re-act. Horses just need training like a gun dog to not re-act, and they are fine. Its much harder to convince horse owners that there is no issue, many seem to believe their filly will die of fright, stampede, or abort a foal just because some-one is plopping some pigeons down in the next field. These are the same horses that pay no attention to road traffic, trains, planes and all the rest - simply because they know from exposure to the noise and movement its not a threat. Ponies in the field beside our clayground don't even flap an ear when shooting starts, they will even come up to the fence to watch! Owners, on the other hand, can be seen spooking their horses by rushing about yelling and waving their arms because they think there is an issue. Get rid of them, and the horses will settle down and ignore shooting within minutes.
  20. As a generalisation, only the tighter chokes in a set will show any difference, open chokes from any manufacturer, and whether flush or extended, will show very similar patterns. At the wildfowling / turkey / super full end of the range, longer tubes will deform less pellets, and wad stripping systems etc will help give a cleaner pattern edge. Buying 3/4 and full with wad tripper porting could give you a small edge, but the difference is still small, and attention to such things as antinomy hardness, wad type, and powder type in the chosen loads will have a bigger influence on your kill / hit ratio's than playing with tube types.
  21. Miruko MK3800 M/C, 4 teague chokes and taper key; 32" barrels, grade 2 wood - older gun but good order. £695. Can RFD to your dealer. Or, I also have a new boxed with warranty, but ex-CLA demo gun, a Lincoln 28" FC, 1/4 and 3/4, SST - RRP £895 - only £595 clearance. RFD to your dealer available.
  22. Have a Webley and Scott M/C game ST. Has a junior short pull, but easily booted or thick pad fitted if an adult stock length required. Its a boxed new gun with full warrenty, but reduced as ex-CLA demo gun, and has some small marks on wood etc. RRP £65- - only £495 clearance. Can RFD, £20 carriage to your dealer. 70mm chamber, 5 chokes, 26" barrels
  23. These are early guns from the MX range, no frills. Mechanically as good as higher grade models, but plain actions etc. Don't like low recoil, light loads, as have inertia blocks and need a strong 24g or a 28g to set second barrel. ( these were designed in 32g days) Usually selling for about as low as you will find any Perazzi, and potentially a good buy. As with most Perazzi's its part of the MX system, so you can buy extra barrels etc and fit them straight to the action. The skeet version has side ported 27" barrels, and M/C sporter and high rib trap barrels from the MX range will fit straight on. True barrel lengths available are metric increments, ie 65cm / 70cm / 75 etc
  24. Lincoln is an Overbranding name applied to all guns imported by David Nickerson up until about 5 years ago when he retired and sold the brand to John Rothery Wholesale. So a "Lincoln" could be made in different factories depending on its age. The Lincoln No2 sideplate is a common gun, many about, but these were made by Emilio Rizzini, who ceased production in the mid '90's. They are not the same gun as the later I Rizzini ( FAIR) guns currently sold as Lincoln. Original spares for No2's by E Rizzini have long been exhausted, and these guns can now be anything up to 30yrs+ old, so there are plenty of "end of life" guns around with issues from which spares salvage can be obtained. As noted, how-ever, barrels from a donor gun will need letting into another action, and the advice its probably cheaper and simpler to buy another complete gun is wise advice. Jerry
  25. There are two Gun Carriage schemes in common use GTA ( Gun Trade Association) members have access to a group scheme with TNT. With TNT, Highlands and Islands are all significantly more expensive than mainland England and Scottish Lowlands. BASC Trade members have access to a ParcelForce group scheme. This is about half the TNT price, and has fewer surcharged zones These negotiated group rates are much lower to the scheme members than the ad-hoc domestic tariffs by these carriers. An RFD should be able to charge a similar price to the over-the-counter price for PF24 at the Post-Office, and still make a profit. Any RFD in a scheme can arrange for the gun to be collected directly from you, and delivered to the destination RFD. This is known as carriage forward services. The receiving RFD should be able to arrange this for you - but price will depend on which scheme they are in, what that scheme charges for the Postcodes concerned, and of course the receiving RFD's administration charge
