  1. I have always just used shell decoys and they are light and easy to carry. I am thinking of getting a flapper, do they fold down flat for carrying? The pictures of them look like they don't fold down flat, if they don't how do folk carry them without breaking them? Can't see that I could just chuck it in a game bag? ( I always have to walk into my spots, no driving a 4x4 to them) Cheers
  2. Marsh man, where is the Geoff Garrod video you refer too? Cheers
  3. Thanks for the feedback, makes me feel a bit better about getting the poor boy done!
  4. Unfortunately my cocker who is 12 in March has a tumor on his balls so the vet said best get them removed. What are the likely changes that I may see in my dog if any? Has anyone else had to do this? Cheers Flipper
  5. I have two cockers and it's nearly all coastal wildfowling I do in the north of Scotland. Great hunters and retrievers but soon get cold if out on the mudflats for an hour or two, even with neoprene jackets. Will retrieve duck and geese no problem. They are not great at long distance retrieves but don't think that will be an issue for you. Great characters and as others have said before they are great pets for the kids and love human contact and attention. Mine are house dogs so the smaller size compared to a lab is a benefit. As they love human contact so much I am not sure how they would cope left in a kennel each day. On the negative side they are a complete handful for the first few years. My youngest one is now 1 year old and there are still days when I think aaargh, just chill out little dog! Wired is what they are. A lab would be a nice easy steady choice and I may get one yet, but if you want a bundle of hi energy fun and trouble then a cocker is the ticket! If I looked clinically at the type of shooting I do, wildfowling and some pigeons, then the logical dog would be a lab, but I have two cockers so figure that out! I can't!!!
  6. Hi Boyd, Is there a punch mark or similar on your receiver to show the repair has been done? On the American web site it shows a punch mark on the receiver where the mag tube goes in to indicate its had the fix. Mine doesn't have it but has allegedly been fixed. What about yours? Shame about this as I did well with the gun tonight, 2 pinks and 6 widgeon but I can't be using it now until I know it's safe. Cheers Mark
  7. Bought a nearly new SXP waterfowl pump from a mate this week and used it for the first time tonight. On the 13th shot it slam fired scaring the **** out of me (it was a 3.5 shell that went bang!), luckily no dogs or anything in the way. I have checked the winchester\browning web site and my serial number isn't listed as one affected. The history of the gun is that the dealer who sold it returned it to winchester to get the fix applied, the original buyer waited months for it to come back from winchester and got a refund from the dealer at which point my mate bought it. He has fired about 50 shots through it with no issue and then sold it to me. Anyone got any experience of this? Cheers Flipper
  8. 10 pintail, that's pretty epic, don't think I have even seen 10 in my lifetime! Managed one pintail hen once, still yet to see a drake! Good stuff Cheers
  9. Excellent that you post these up. With out wishing to mess up your shooting style ! it seems that you kill some of the birds really well where you mount on the bird and the swing is accelerating? First bird in clip then 2.20 sec and 2.43 as examples where gun swing is accelerating. Great stuff and way better than I could do!
  10. Just put a bunch of Wildfowling Books up for sale in the Trading Post Other Sales section if anyone is interested. Cheers

  12. How well does the synthetic Matt black finish hold up when the gun is used for wildfowling? I have had camo finish guns and they are great, no rust spots and a quick wipe down to get rid of the mud and they are as good as new. Are the black ones as good?
  13. Had a strange one this morning. Shot a pink that only had one foot. The other leg was perfectly formed bar no webbed foot. It didn't look like it had lost its foot as the stump wasn't scarred or damaged, it was like it had a perfect top end of the knuckle joint with perfect skin all around it but no lower leg /foot. Guess it was a defect from birth?
  14. Thinking of going back to a pump. Had 2 Mossberg 835's in the past, great patterns but barrel heavy, rattley, and not the smoothest action. But safety is top tang and they are good "killing" guns. I have handled a SXP and they seem to handle and point well, don't like the safety though. Anyone any thoughts or opinions? Cheers Flipper
  15. I am off to purchase a kicks high flyer choke but when ordering I get the choice of win invector or win investor plus. It is for a sx3 so is that invecto or invector plus? Cheers Flipper
  16. Elvis, you may get a better response if you can specify what you will be shooting, ducks, geese, flight pond, foreshore, inland decoying? Cheers
  17. Now I am not wanting to start another choke thread !!! but I am looking for some feedback from anyone with a Win SX3. Can any Win sx3 user recommend from personal experience an aftermarket choke for use with Steel shot size 1 or BB. I usually shoot Win Drylock 3.5 inch No 1 or Gamebore 3.5 inch No1 for geese so am looking for an after market choke to give a tighter pattern at 40 plus yards. Cheers Mark
  18. Hi Motty, What full chokes have you tried powershot with? Cheers Mark
  19. Interestingly I have just loaded 1.25 oz in 12 gauge of powershot 3.5mm Patterns fine at 40 yds through half choke on the sx3 but thin at 50yards I used the hevi shot load recipe from Alliants manual on the web. Can anyone give me some sort of comparison of what the equivalant steel shot size would be as far as same energy\lethality versus a 3.5mm powershot pellet?
  20. Yep, given up on my semi as well as I shoot much better with my AYA Yeoman Side by Side!
  21. Hi Motty, Any footage of your duck trip as you do make good vids!
  22. Hi Motty, Thanks for the reply. If they don't need four slits how many do you put in yours? Cheers
  23. Hi all, Just looking to load my first shells. I have Sam 1 wads that will need slitting. I will only be reloading a small quantity each year so will be slitting the wads by hand. From what I gather they need four slits, but how far down do I go and is it true vertical slit or do I put a small angle on it? Cheers Flipper
