  1. I've seen an early incarnation of Mick's nightvision....it is rather awesome...
  2. yep. theres a few dam and sire pairings that if they every did occur, I'd rip their arms off for..... Yes and one mans best dog is another mans feral picking up dog ;->
  3. personally dont buy on price......theres particular breeding and health checks in a working yellow I want and if a pup is 12 or 1200 then thats what I will pay..... If you think pup prices are expensive, dont start looking at the price of a fulky trained novice trial winner ;-)
  4. yep - met the lady that runs the kennel at a field trial,, nice dogs and well tested with a lot of thought gone into matings etc .......depends what you're after........And yes they are well health tested and are nice dogs in my book, but its horses for courses...
  5. train station - large pile of metro news papers worked for us - an armful a week was handy :-)
  6. i didnt buy a 3.5ltre v6 to worry about mpg ;->
  7. so some sound advise from a breeder and trialler who I respect... http://www.wylanbriar.com/buying-a-pup/questions-to-ask-a-breeder/if they cant answer, regardless of how cute the dog is, walk away.. also, try googling their phone number to see if it throws up a load of adverts for different breeds of dogs etc....
  8. Hi, I'm pretty close to you down the m1 and can recommend a few good trainers locally if need be. Just remember if you're going to train it properly, you wont be taking it anywhere near maybe a hide or decoy for a fair few months after its come home if you want to train it properly.... You need to get the basics nailed first before exposing to shot or retrieving game as otherwise you may end up with a problem on your hands.....I've seen a fair few where the dog is a complete handful and off its bits due to the basics being skipped and going to the exiting stuff..... What I would do is use http://www.wylanbriar.com/buying-a-pup/questions-to-ask-a-breeder/as the basis of any contact with a breeder..... Some people will wax lyrical that you dont need kc reg, dont need health checks etc but its better to have it than not, I've seen a fair few dogs that dont have the checks and have a massive issue with health etc.. Try to find a dog that has a mix of FTCH's in red on the pedigree and non FTCHS as your first dog, some will say a dog with a full red pedigree is great and in some experienced homes it is, but find a balance.... In terms of where to look http://www.drakeshead.co.uk/puppies.asp- but remember the health checks https://www.facebook.com/groups/215208095355069/?fref=tsis a reasonable group on facebook seen a few of http://www.tashwarnegundogs.co.uk/and quite like them fast methodical zippy little things the ones i've seen Happy to chat - pm me and I'll send you my number.. Mark
  9. check your house insurance, you may find you have legal cover....
  10. no such thing -if someones allergic they're allergic.... I'd ditch the wife and get the dog ;->
  11. sporting saint are brilliant for customer car, never had an issue with them......had one launcher that went duff, they took it back no fuss at all......
  12. To find the right dog, I'd cast the net a bit further, any ideas on what you want from the dog, what you'll use it for and budget? Theres some stonking litters out there but a lot of the good ones are waiting list jobs...l
  13. yep or phillpa williams over near york.....multiple ftchs trained etc
  14. Hi, I would go with a breeder that fits requirements and that may be some way away......but there are a few out your way......Look a bit further as well towards east anglia as well,.. Theres a few half decent facebook groups like gundogs for sale and pedigree gundogs for sale....
  15. try the test trials and training days. No trivia! Group on facebook... there was some days in the north east advertised...
  16. something has knocked his confidence in you maybe.....spinning as its called is fixable with time... i would put a long series of blinds in a straight line over 100 yards..... so dog goes 10 yards, picks is sent qgain, dog goes 20 yards, picks and is sent again, dog goes 30 yards..... basically like the rungs of a ladder.......and as lee suggests build up the distances...
  17. i loose hours on that site sometimes......hypothetical matings, coi's etc etc
  18. 211.5 works best over distance or a 212 as not many use them...the silent ones are no good in my book as you yourself cannot hear if you are blowing it consistently
  19. ferg - i'm just down the a1 if you want to have a look at ours
  20. see this all the time in rescue I'm afraid chaps, volunteer for two...Some people you just want to shake but in reality, very often the dog does better with its new owners. what's even worse...we see more dogs coming in at the start of holiday periods...
  21. To be honest for me, if i was to take a cold economic decision, the cost of the crate is way less than the cost of having to get a fully trained lab thats at trial standard..... And you're right about seven seaters, I think fifth gear or one of those did a crash test that showed actually how unsuitable maybe those rear seats are.... I think NCAP subsequently revised the tests..... And the difference between dogs and kids....well your kids are wearing a seatbelt that will most probably upon impact apply tension using pyrotechnic tensioners that are set on sensors around the vehicle.... I actaully find a crate useful in my case as when we're at tests etc, I can leave boot open, lock the dog up in it and sign in etc.... Weightwise my safedog box is circa 25kgs, easily removed in 3 minutes even with the mrs helping Horses for courses i know...
  22. I'd maybe call the sire's owner and just check he's done the busienss and that the health test results do actually hold true. You have to be slightly untrusting in this world these days to protect your own interests..... What are the names that you want to throw at people? Am not bad with labs, but spaniels and owt else not my gig M
  23. On a safedog box, dog will survive... its the only crate i know of thats been lab crash tested.... solid bit of kit..,own one myself.. http://youtu.be/qsyh0C5kZqQ
