  2. Skinny, is that firle church? sure looks like it. I have a few permisions not too far from there.
  3. Dont worry Nick, we will out on that stubble soon enough I wonder which fox in the foto i took with my 6.5 :o :( How did those pigeons taste on the BBQ??
  4. I recall being told once that the minimum should be the diameter of the bullet head.
  5. I honestly don't think we would have any trouble doubling our total. But hey you can only shoot them once............ more for next time
  6. Its not a competition m8, i would have been just as happy to get 1/2 a dozen that night. Might not have written it up and posted a piccy though Some of my most memerable nights out have been with very small bags, but the shots have been challenging and the company great. And its a damm sight harder to do it with a air rifle than a .22 rimfire... Thats for sure Congrats on a good bag.
  7. Not at all. Because there weren't any gut shots!! What you think you can see, is the were the blood has run as they were piled up in the motor. Furry Muff!!
  8. Popped up with Rob(abolt) to a local permission mainly to check zero on Robs Quad as he noticed his barrel was loose last trip out. We werent expecting to be out long as big old thunder storm was closing in fast. So a few shot's on paper and both rifles(.22lr) clover leafing at 60 yards Still no rain and it was nearly dark, so we decided to see if we could knock a few bunnies over. With the storm closing quick it was nicely dark and a good breeze blowing, perfect bunnies busting weather. So red filter on and of we went. We drove no more that 50 yards put the lamp on, at least 20 pairs of eyes starred back  Quick as a flash Rob starts knocking them over. We move on and its pretty much the same all around the permission, lamp on knock a handfull over. Try and find them, the grass is pretty much knee lengh :x and in the dark its not easy. We swop over and go around again. In the end the total shot must have been getting on for 40+ with 30 sumthing in the piccy a few in my bumper still and those we couldnt find( must get a dog!!) Just as we were bagging up the storm hit, and did it hit us. Rob got soaked locking the gate( he had a jacket on i didnt ) The journey home wasnt much fun, it was coming down that hard and fast that you couldnt tell the road from the pavement there was that much water laying.... Still it was a good night, climbed into bed at 1.30am slightly damp but knackered so out like a light and slept like a baby
  9. It was the only shot open to me and when a 120grn ballistic tip from a 6.5x55 hits you at 150 yards, you arent going any where.... As i wrote in the post, it entered the back end and emptied the chest out the front end Its probably not a shot i would have taken with my .223, the 6.5 is a whole different beast!!!!
  10. Popped up a local Estate last night with Rob. They had started lambing 3 days ago so it was time to see if the local fox population had worked this out yet? We arrived early so we could check zeros, because we both had new batches of reloads. A few clicks and we were done both rifles zeroed. We waited until dark and started our patrol. Within the first 20 mins we accounted for a good few rabbits. Until we apporached a very rough piece of land, i think it may have been bombed during the war as its just a mass of craters. When a pair of eyes were spotted pearing out of the closest hole. Rob switched rifles and we moved closer following the fox through the mass of craters as it darted fom one to another. Finaly it reappered no more than 30 yards away, Rob threw his rifle to his shoulder and let a shot go, it went down for a second but then was up and moving towards us so another shot went its way but it was now less tha 20 yards away Rob missed the dirt kicked up under it....(High power, parrelax adjustable scopes dont work for ultra close range foxing) He racked again but was empty... so he grabbed the .22 which in the gun rack behind him and instantly put a round into its head. Heart pounding but number 1 dead.(BTM fox) The first shot had gone low through the bottom of the chest and smashing its legs up. Rob was pretty gutted but he had finished the job without panicking and in less than 10-15 seconds. He's pretty new to foxing still, i reminded him these thing do happen but he had handled perfectly. We moved onto were the ewes where lambing, the first few lapps showed nothing. We had a coffee and went off again, this time as we approched the far boundry. There was a fox working its way along the fence. It was still 200 yards away and it didnt seed bothered by the lamp so we moved in. We made up 50-70 yards and lamped it again, this time it didnt like it and started looking for a way through the fence. Its was running up and down until it found a way through. It stopped to squeeze through a tiny gap just long enough for me to send 1 its way from my 6.5. Its was a texas heart shot, the round entered the back end and exited under the throat!!! (MIDDLE fox) Anther coffee break was had and started our rounds again until we came back to the field were number 2 was taken already another was watching a ewe and its twins. We moved in on it, but it moved behind a tree protecter fence thingy and sat behind it.... It wouldnt moved for calls, for 10mins we watched it untill something caught its eye and it stepped out and sat down facing away from us at 140 yards. It got the good news between the shoulder blades (TOP fox) Number 3 dead and hopefully a few lambs saved tonite.. It was 2am so we headed off home feeling rather pleased with our evening out.
  11. Yep probably was. Smart A**e
  12. Met up with Rob for a spot of foxing at a local estate where there are due to lamb any day now. Rob arrived at 7pm and we made our way over to the shoot, upon arrival we discovered that some sort of do was being held in the big house and there was a lot of traffic to and from the house. We didnt hold up much hope of seeing much with all the extra activity, but decided as we were there we would give it a hour or two. A couple of laps of the grounds were made without a sighting so we parked up and had coffee and snacks We returned to our patrols to notice a 4x4 parked up on the verge just of the road upto the house. We thought nothing of it so carried on. 20 mins later we noticed it was still there, so thinking something maybe up i pulled along side and asked if everything was ok. The driver replied rather shortly that he was on the phone and that he lived in the house( its split into appartments). So i appologised for bothering him, i could see that he was looking at what i was wearing (my camo's) so i explained that i was undertaking pest control for the land owner. He replied oh and shut his window. So we left him to his phone call and returned to the other end of the estate. By now what ever was going on in the house must of finished as a steady stream of cars were leaving. We made our way into one of the furthest fields to stay out the way. after driving 3 edges of the field we moved to the last side and noticed at last a pair of eyes in the hedge. We moved closer and decided that it was deer in the far side as the eyes were about 3 feet of the ground. After watching for a while they disapeared and then suddenly reappeared on this side of the hedge at fox height off the ground  Rob definatly ID'd it as a fox so we moved in for a shot, he was totaly oblivious to us so we kept going until we were about 50-60 yards away. I stopped and Rob took the shot. This is the pretty side, the 22.250 at 50 yards doesnt do pretty  1 big good condition dog fox in the bag. We left the field to see sheep runing down the lane towards the house!!!! How the hell did they get across a cattle grid? It is one of those types with a grid one side and gate on the other. And the gate was shut 15 mins earlier as we crossed the grid. So we spent the next 15 mins hearding 100ish very pregnant ewes and 1 mega stroppy lama back down the lane to the grid/gate which was still closed!!!! Rob opened the gate and i ushered them through. Had one of the house guests opened the gate?? was it the moody 4x4 owner, was the ghost from the pond?? A couple of cars drove past up to the house while me and Rob had a well earned rest. One more lap of the grounds was on the cards so of we went, not 15 mins after we had past it we found another gate open!! Was someone playing silly ******* with us??? Who knows, we had had enough by now so of home we went. I climbed into bed at 1am to be told by my loverly wife that the clocks had changed and it was really 2am and also it was her turn for a layin  Which meant i would be up with the kids at something like 6.30-7.00am!!! OH JOY!!!!!
  13. I'm sure it was to .22 rimmy not a c/fire.
  14. Stuart, You can pay top dollar and get http://www.deben.com/lights_lamping/lightf...mmer_switch.php I have one and it works really well But how about a Pigeon Magnet Speed Controller??? I think it will work in the same way. Control the power = control the rotation/ brightness http://www.##############/?page=show-item&item=420 Alot cheaper but a bit bulkier. Brian....
  15. It works a treat. The only addition to the set up is some of those pads you wrap around your roof bars when you carry a canoe, otherwise the ribs do tend to get a good wack every now and then. With someone driving and one shooting and intouch via a hands free intercom, your always ready for a shot and because of the added elevation your always shooting into the ground so nice and safe. Foxing and rabbiting doesnt get any easier
  16. Yup easy http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...=28929&st=0
  17. I have a CZ550 in 6.5x55 and its a stonking rifle. I cant fault it in any way, nice wood, nice action and its shoots 1/2 groups Never had a cz before, probably down to pure snobbishness.... Now i would recomend them to anyone
  18. Blinding game!!! That was the France of old!!!!
  19. So far so good Were out in the morning to a spot where we can push it out to 7-800 yards
  20. My brother has 22.250 Browning A-Bolt M-1000 Eclipse, same as what your looking at but with a fancy thumbhole laminate stock. It is a very well built rifle and shoots like a dream, 350 yards bunnies arent a problem and now he has a nice leupy long range target scope i expect to see a couple of hundred yards added to that I think my next rifle will be a A-Bolt not sure what caliber yet
  21. Sincere condolences to you and your family. SL & Family
  22. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr NO!!!!!!!!!!
