  1. Pigeon, Duck, Goose (Canada / Pink / Greylag), Fox, Roe deer, Crow, Magpie, Jay, Rook, Rabbit, Hare, Woodcock, Snipe, Pheasant, Partrige, Rats, one or two clays too but not too keen on that, much prefer the live stuff.
  2. I use the thumb in the back method too, tried all sorts of ways but just can't get the knack of breaking the necks and the birds must be suffering when I try, now I find the back break is the least distressing for the birds, I will try the thumb in the head next time, that sounds like a quick and easy method.
  3. My big lab used to sleep in his bed in the front room, wasn't allowed on any furniture, then he had cancer and had two big operations, since then we went soft and now he sleeps where the hell he wants to lol
  4. Wow, that dog knows how to have fun, excellent photo's, I think number one is a cracker. :good:

    computer parts

If you were closer I would have given you one of my old ones for him to strip and rebuild, I used to build them for friends a few years ago, outdated now but would have been ok to practice on.

    My mates dog

She doesn't take a lot of training for her tricks, she just seems to pick it up straight away. Bob, this is a fun trick with bog roll mate, it's not retreiving a bird, she is one of the best working dogs I've ever seen and yes she brought to hand when working, the old girl is retired now though.

    My mates dog

This is my mate's dog doing one of her triks, thre's loads more on my youtube, don't know how to insert the vids on here sorry.
  8. Had a wander round my syndicate woods yesterday morning, wasn't very fruitful, a woodcock and a pheasant, after that a few of us got together and walked the dykes on a friends farm, this was a lot better than the morning, we bagged 12 pheasant in total, we had to hang around for an hour or so for darkness to fall over the pond for the final part of the day's shooting, the wind was wild and it was very cold so it wasn't the best place to be, as soon as the ducks started to come the cold and wind was forgotten about, fantastic night with a total of 28 duck picked (including my first left & right on duck), an absolutely brilliant day with some really good birds (wind assisted) Today i fancied some of the duck for dinner, I prepared 4 breasts in a garlic and black pepper marinate, popped in the oven for 30 mins, took the foil off and back in for another 10 mins, lifted out and left to rest, served with mash and some green beans, was bloody lovely.
  9. So sorry for your loss, it's heartbreaking and as has been said it never gets any easier.
  10. Best of luck Frenchie, I was a heavy smoker (roll your own no filter) for 25 years, tried a few times to stop but fell off the wagon every time, tried every method too, gum, tablets, patches the lot, the clincher for me was my young daughter in tears because they had been learning at her junior school about the effects of smoking, she was begging me and her mother to stop, almost broke my heart she did, that was it for me, never had another fag and that was almost 7 years ago, hope you do it m8 hard work but well worth it.
  11. Yep, I have one, it's a nightmare, I'm also on 30mg Lansoprazole, trouble is I love a curry and my drink is cider ... both are prone to setting it off, many a night I've been sat up sweating like a glass blowers bum and in agony after a curry and a few pints ... will I ever learn ? I doubt it.
  12. It won't make much difference ... most of them live down here anyway. Rebuild Hadrians wall and let them get on with it.

    Durham shootin?

Well said, I completely agree, a whole family has been wiped out and all most people start ranting about is the tightening of the laws and the bad press for shooters, my sympathies go to all of the family who have been devastated by this shooting.
  14. Yeah i've looked on the bay, they're about a tenner cheaper than I've seen them, if I buy them tomorrow then I can use them on Saturday's shoot, don't mind paying a little extra to have them straight away.
  15. Thanks lads, all positive stuff, going to go buy me a pair tomorrow morning, a little bit concerned about how they will cope with the brambles and heavy undergrowth though.
  16. Cheers Tus, what's the waterproofing like on them ?
  17. Hi all, I'm after a new pair of boots, limited budget so I've decided to get a pair of Jack Pyke Countryman boots, before I do get them I thought I would ask if anyone has any opinions on these, good or bad ? they seem a good solid boot and at a good price too.
  18. On the lash tonight with the syndicate lads, then a fox drive in the morning.
  19. I'm with you on this one, would love a crack at something like that, wouldn't be able to move my shoulder for a day or two though, pigeons are a pest and not sporting game.

    sports direct

I'm a Boro fan and it pains me to say it but I agree with you, it will always be the Sid James Park no matter what the fat lad says, and yes it's embarrasing the amount of empty seats at the riverside week in week out.
  21. Welcome, I'm from just down the road.
  22. I have ran all of my 300 tdi's on SVO without any problems, I mixed around 70 / 30 in the warmer months and less as it became cooler, change your fuel filter after about the first month because the SVO will clean all of the crud out of your lines and clogg the filter, trouble is now SVO is more expensive than diesel in most places, the disco seems to run a lot smoother when using it too.
  23. Thin tyres are the best, as has been said they cut down through the sloppy stuff to get a grip, big wide tyres look good but can slip around on top of the muck, I have done a fair bit of offroading and have had to winch a lot of people out who had big wide tyres on.

    Ducks

Bit late with an update, but better late than never, it was a bad night for a flight pond, clear skies, not a breath of wind either, still managed 35 in total, loved every minute.

    Ducks

We feed the pond regularly, around 10 bags of barley / wheat a week, canny expensive but well worth it on a shoot night.
