  2. it means the house cost way more than is ever possible to recoup in heating cost.....say you save 1.5k on your heating every year and your insulation spec window spec has cost you say 40 k plus additional labour making everything tight,,, more than your more standard components and you have also went with heat recovery etc at several thousand more which cosst electric to run your a very long time of ever gettn your money back massive outlay for the average punter but it is the done thing to say look if got a passive house........
  3. Will never have PAYE again,,, involved in construction when work slowed I was faced with redundancy having to keep PPl working etc not worth it and I'm just a small company keep it self employed rem if it rains for 3 wks you still have to pay the PAYE man......holiday pay more rights than you and if your ever faced with having to sack someone good luck with the court case.......lol.....
  4. this is why i hate the whole drivin shoot.......havin to look the part cant be doing with all that after all the birds dont care,, im payin for the privilage to me this practice of turning up looking tweeded up to the hilt is all outa context and relates to a time when the drivin day was for the lord not the peasant.........can ya tell im a " rough shoot man " dog,,,gun,,,whatever coat has cartridges in ripped leggins and away over fields glens wherever,, proper shootin........lol enjoy your day.. you may enjoy it love it or even come away like me knowing its not for you,,,,, offer me a day on the best estate in britain or a day roughin it over goarse flushing a fox rise a woodcock maybe find a pheasant or two watching my dog work and the company of my shooting mate,,,,proper day out thats what id be at.......
  5. Shoot the blighters before they clear off elsewhere as the winter progresses......lol on my pond we have barley corn wheat and ala carte rotten spuds they love them, float a pallet out ply on top cavity board below timber upstand to keep chopped spuds on top they will clear it in no time and spuds last few days so if you miss a note with the grain the still have some pickins..........
  6. Right lads enough of the personal opinion atacks,,,, I started this thread about one of our local muppet feo doing something rather stupid where you are now decesending into areas that have nothing to do with what the topic was started for so back on track please there have been some good reads for me about others experiences........
  7. Funny that was the reaction among those present when I was told ( ahh I've said funny again tin hat time!!!)
  8. Perhaps because its a duty weapon and not personal and as they do not hold any form of FAC it would be against the law to use their weapon for anything other than in the line of their work, so practice would be impossible..............
  9. feel as if i have to defend my statement against blunderbust here,,,,,is it funny or was that just the way i phrased my story you ceem to miss my point and have a go at me...well like your firearms officers we get interviewed before we get a cert over here and yes if they think your not fit you wont get one,,,, the point was that here is someone who has been trained to do a job and should know better, many of the other posts would suggest that incidents are quite common some rather silly but all potential for fatal results, just to make you feel better did it make me laugh no just made me think "what an absolute **** " our forces go through firearms training on a regular basis think its yearly and there is a stringint pass level we have some of the best trained firearms ppl in britain who work under great threat and who carry firearms all the time (bobby with a truncheon not mush use here......)so for someone who has the benifit of all this training to have done this well yes then i do think he aint as clued up as he should be...........
  10. not sure where to post this exactly,,,, well hows this for a story,,, speaking to an officer today knows i do a bit of shooting and low and behold its ceems that those who decree if we are fit and proper to hold a cert are not as how shall we say just as clued up as they should be,,,,,lol one of our local psni firearms officers has just shot 1 if not 2 of his fingers off while doing god knows what with his firearm at his work,,,makes you laugh if it wasnt just quite so stupid..............
  11. And this is how I describe a typical private customer no regard for wasting someone's time......like figgy said I don't bother with them either most are out to waste your time or not pay or have 20 quotes then get Jimmy from the pub for a fiver an hr to come and bodge it up, no overheads insurance h@s equipment etc.....not worth the hassle...,
  12. In reality that's how it is, I tell ppl either wait till I've free time which there never is or get someone else because as has been said it really won't pay or be worth hassle, looked at a job recently told the guy look u can do that yourself no point in payinn me to send men round, ahh but there is a few bits inside yea I said but I'm busy for next 2 mths so no odds to me,,politely I may add,, so 1.5 hrs of my time for free diesel etc and told how to fix the problem, now he rang last week the other mate let him down could I now fit him in, no I laugh I'm still busy prob shd have booked you last time instead of waiting for my mate says he, yes but u didn't so now it may be 3 mths do you want to make a bookin.....ppl think a day/week is a lot of work but in the building trade if your any good your always thinking mnths ahead and you just can't leave say £100k refurb to fix a loose slate.........and I'm not a big business either but that's reality......
