  1. Mark ha ha - No offence to Durham meant mate :( My point was meant to be that most people would assume that in a rural area like Northumberland, it would be less difficult to obtain a SGC than when compared to Kent for example. It seems nothing has actually changed then
  2. I agree about having a lesson - if ONLY to cover the safety aspects. Hope you get on well in your new sport :(
  3. My FAO said that they take a VERY dim view of guns taken from cars. His advice was i) Don't ever leave your gun unattended and/or; ii) take a small sports holdall, pop the stock/fore end into that and carry it with you if you need to leave the car for any reason. He reckons just taking the fore-end is not enough as the gun can still be cocked without it. Onviously the barrels are not much use on their own. A little extreme in my view but you can see his point. The law is very clear on this point, it is YOU who are responsible to prevent unauthorised access to the gun. So all the advice in the world will not protect you if your gun is taken.
  4. Odd you should say that, some years ago (before the rationalisation of the applications process) Kent was deemed the best (easiest) area to get a SGC. And Northumberland was the most difficult. I know Durham is not in Northumberland, but it's fairly close :( I for one applaud the standardisation of the application process and it seems to me (as a returning shooter) that the Police and Firearms Departments have really got their acts together.

  7. What grade is that? It looks terrific
  8. In addition to the above: For clay's you'll mostly be better off with a Over/Under Multi Choke Sporter. The size/weight/barrel length will depend on your stature etc. A good all rounder at that price would be a Lanber or a Bettinsoli IMO, you should be able to find a fairly new one at your budget. Don't forget you'll need a gunslip and cleaning kit too (budget around £30-40) Good luck!
  9. I'd take a good look at the Toyota's, very good on and off road (Ok not quite as good as the LR products, but certainly good enough) BUT they are more reliable on the whole.
  10. A little trick I find helpful - Go onto Autotrader.com, put your location/price range into the relevant places and choose 4X4 in the vehicle type option (don't put an option in for the Make of vehicle) This will list all the 4X4's they have available in your price range, and within a reasonable distance. That might throw up a couple of options you'd not thought of.

Phew! I had to read the thread title twice............... Foxy what?
  12. This is a briiliant idea! I stopped smoking a long time ago now, and for sure it's really easy provided you REALLY want to do it. All you need to do is find a reason and concentrate on that whenever you feel you want a ciggy. I found that the "longing" got shoter and shorter as each day went by. Talking about it really helped me quit. One little trick I found useful was to be clear about the fact that you might WANT a cigarette but you don't NEED one. Good luck to all who take this on. It's not as hard as you think, really!

  14. Just put your unloaded gun in a slip - job done
  15. The Maverick is Front Wheel Drive until you select the 4WD option. Therefore the answer to your question is - put the newer tyres on the rear.
  16. The best example I recall along these lines happened a few years back. We (the girlfriend of the time) were driving home, suddenly the rear door of the car flew open as we rounded a bend. It was at the end of a service road behind a row of shops. It was a dark and rainy night, so I popped out the car and shut the door. Did not think anymore about it until we got home and realised that her handbag was no longer on the rear seat where she'd put it. We drove the 10 miles back to the spot, not really expecting to find it and we were not to be suprised. It was not there. She say's "Let's go to the Police station, someone might have handed it in" I say, "Are you kidding, some little scroat is in one of the local pubs drinking your cash away as we speak" Anyway just to placate her, we went to the Police station and to my utter amazement it had been handed in and was intact! No idea who handed it in but there are some good people out there
  17. Looks really good to me What a wonderful present for someone - as others have asked, what's the ballpark cost?

Firefox seems more stable, but it also struggles to run the script from time to time.
  20. Well we shall see if my SGC actually turns up next Friday. But as I said, IF it does then it's a two week turnaround. In fact I dated the application 24/11 but it was not posted until the 25th. Anyway, I have a deposit on a nice Browning Ultra XS and my cabinet will get all "chemically anchored" tomorrow. So it's fingers crossed for a trip to buy the gun next Saturday. Wooooooooooooooo bloody Hooooooooooo
