This one will split opinion, as can be seen from the replies. My 2p worth is that it's a total no no at Competitions, but at local "straw bailers" it's to be expected, as these shoots are as much a social gathering as anything else. However, there are limits, and although for me most of the time I simply don't notice the noisey people, every now and then I do. We have two particularly annoying tits at my local shoot. The one guy is a total joker, and although annoying he is pretty harmless. The other guy is just a loud mouthed know it all, who seems to feel that everybody in the surrounding Counties needs to benefit from his opinion, on everything. The group I shoot with feel much the same about these two, so we just try to avoid them. On the whole, I would agree with those that say you'll need to learn to blank them out. Tunring around to say something is far more likely to upset your routine/concentration etc. So, how do we all feel about children in pubs?

Or the guy who turns up every other week at our local Clay Shoot fully dressed up for a day at the Pheasants. Even in Summer..

I just used a mild paint stripper but did not let it soak in too much. As for the dinks - put a damp cloth over the mark and place an iron over to steam them out. Take a little care and you'll be fine. As for the rest, wet and dry then oil her up!

I'd just ask him what he wants. Explain that you don't want to annoy him with phone calls all the time and see what he suggests. Otherwise you suggest a text as others have said and see what he says. Just be polite and helpful, I am sure you'll work something out.

Mmmm but as I (did not actually say but) meant......... Generally you buy T Shirts and the other items listed with the logo already displayed on them. I for one have never bought a gun with logo's emblazoned across the barrels. In the end it's down to the individual, but I just think it looks a bit naff.

As far as I know it works like this: The ejector springs are compressed as the gun is being cocked, ie as you open the gun (unless they are already compressed - ie in an un-shot gun) The opening is in effect in two stages, the first stage allows the released ejectors to operate. The 2nd part of the opening "Cocks" the gun which includes resetting the ejector springs. Firing the gun (amongst other things) releases the mechanism allowing the ejectors to work once the gun is opened again, and so the cycle is continued. Therefore opening a cocked but unfired gun means the ejectors remain compressed and therefore do not eject. Therefore snap caps do nothing to ejector springs, but do release to main (firing pin) springs. If you use your gun regularly, they are waste of money IMO. Hope that all makes sense

HDAV - I am L/H and shoot a Browning. I was told by the gun shop (Ian Coley's) that all Brownings are R/H. And casting a gun over, the stock can sometimes "spring back" Now, TBH I don't know if that's all true (someone on here will I am sure) but if it is true, it's pointless you looking for a L/H Browning.

Snoogins (welcome to the forum!) I side with the try (as many as you can) before you buy brigade, and you decide what's best for you. Many shooters will prefer one make over another, usually for a very good reason, but that does not mean that gun will suit you. On shops - I understand that Ian Coley in Cheltenham is setting his shop up at his clay shooting ground sometime soon. Might be worth a call? He usually has a nice collection of the usual suspects and seems to know what he's on about. Also, I agree that fitting is important but only once you can mount the gun consistently and you think the difference will be worth it? You might find you are hitting 40+ out of the box? My advise would be to get yourself kitted out with a decent clay buster and just go out and enjoy your shooting. Then if/when you get more serious about the sport, get the gun fitted etc. There's a good chance that you will change your first gun in anycase. Not everyone does, but a fair few seem to IMO. Thing is - are we talking renewal times here or a fresh application? Obviously those who are fitting cabinets etc are fresh applications, but what about the others? My fresh application took just under two weeks (West Midlands Police) The FAO actually brought the cert with him on his 2nd visit when he checked the security. Very good service I reckon. nice helpful bloke too.

Don't worry about ratios, they mean nothing in the long run. I am not convinced clays will really help unless you are fairly inexperienced? As others have said, make sure you have the right cartridges (I always use No 6) and learn the true range of your gun. No point in shooting at birds you're not going to hit, but no reason why you can't use those longer birds to practise your swing/lead technique on is there? Hope you have a good day tomorrow :blink:
