  1. Topmantim (and son), I have 2 rifles. First is my Tikka T3 Lite, it's in .25-06 REM calibre, synthetic and blue. Range? Well it's a stalking rifle so you're unlikely to ever want to shoot over 200yds in this country, typically more like 100yds. However, it should be capable of printing decent patterns out to 300yds or more with practice. Put it another way, it's a lot more accurate than I am. It's wearing a Meopta 7x50 which I expect to be upgrading to an S&B 8x56 in a week or two.
  2. Good point Badsworth, about the price of the Mod.
  3. Marlin My FAC is approaching a year old now. I live in N.E. Hampshire. I have restrictions on the use of my .25-06. I didn't have to do a DSC1 but I had to do a similar but less stringent course with a local well known stalker who runs a training centre and is a big land agent in these parts... only £520 for the residential weekends training! ***!! Even after that I can only stalk with him until he writes them (FARM) a letter to say I'm safe on my own. Once the "supervisory clause" is lifted I can stalk anywhere with land owners permission and on land deemed suitable etc etc. I can also use the .25-06 for Deer or Fox, and it's a pretty pokey calibre for Foxing, far more so than a .243 and arguably a 6.5x55 as well. On the plus side, the guy is on the verge of doing the letter for me, which is just as well as he could in theory bleed me dry for years! Also, I've since been able to have another experienced stalker added to my ticket as a second qualified mentor. Luckily he's a buddy with his own permissions, so that is always there to help "accelerate" the process if needs be. Funnily enough my pal who went on the same course with me but lives in the Thames Valley area was refused a full bore slot on his FAC until he did a DSC1. Our system is B*ll*x. Yet again, it all depends where you live it seems.
  4. Great picture Konings. Where abouts are you? It's not England.
  5. If it's anything like hacking satellite tv cards then the companies change the codes periodically, so every so often you need to re-do your Hex keys. Pain in the neck considering it's only £7.99 a month (or thereabouts) for a top up card! An EEPROM Blower will cost you a good few quid and then there's all the viruses you might get on your PC while downloading new keys from those dodgy sites. I just got digital (freeview) myself and it's almost as **** as satellite. There's about 6 decent proper TV channels and all they do is rotate programs on a day to day basis it seems, or they "Close Down" for half the day. Of course, you may be one of the many who enjoy watching QVC/Price-Drop Tv/Bid-Up Tv? I only got it so's to be able to receive digital braodcasts when they switch off analogue, other than that I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.
  6. I think you'll find that Barbour own "Driza Bone", or maybe it's the other way round? But the two names are more than just casual aquaintances that's for sure. So the quality of one product may be similar to that of the other.
  7. If they're using mobile cameras they have to not only put up signs giving relevant early warning to motorists at the time, but it's also on a daily list, which is what devices like "Road Angel" use so as to be able to know where the "Black Spots" are.
  8. I see he went for the Copper/Synthetic look rather than a more traditional walnut style. Nice... I like it.
  9. Got a Remmington .22LR semi, it came with a Parker-Hale on it and it's virtually silent. All I hear when I fire it with Subs is the click/clunk of the action bouncing back onto its rubber stopper and then forward again to rest. Can't ask more than that, I doubt I'll be buying a Sak for a while.
  10. Stop all this! Just take him clay shooting and let him share your gun while you're with him. That should be enough of a taster for him to know whether he wants to go ahead and get one or not, surely?
  11. Normally you'd either put wood batons behind the cab so there was less bolt sticking through into your cab or as several people said, change the bolts to the "Nut Head" type of Rawl Bolt, rather than have the threaded bolt sticking through you'd just have a neat bolt to do up (or 6) inside the cab?
  12. BD.... the Exit Pupil is pretty much a universally accepted means of quantifying the light gathering ability of a scope or binoculars etc. The optimum figure is 7, although this is fairly theoretical. The pupil of the human eye can accomodate a maximum of 7 however this reduces dramatically with age. So if you're 40 your eye may only operate up to say 5.5, in which case a scope with an ideal exit pupil of 7 (or even higher) would be wasted. It's calculated by dividing the Object lens diameter (say 42mm) by the magnification (say 6mm) so you get 42/6 = 7mm. Therefore your classic stalking scope which is traditionally a 6 x 42 has an exit pupil of 7mm, the maximum a healthy eye can utilise. No accident there though, this is why the 6 x 42 came into exisitence as a classic. Also an 8 x 56 scope will offer the same 7mm Exit Pupil, as 8 is divisible into 56 exactly 7 times. I don't know what 15@2.5x5@10x means, indeed in that form it is meaningless in relation to exit pupil calculation. If the scope is 2.5 with a 50mm objective lens then that equates to a 20 exit pupil, which is utterly useless except from 7 and downwards, unless you're Terminator 3! Anyway, I'm sure you get the drift by now BD. So even a variable scope will simply have one exit pupil figure at it's lowest magnification and then yet another again at it's highest magnification, and obviously the number varies in between the two extremities. Say you have a 3-9 x 50 scope, popular with rimfire and air gunners. This has the following figures... at 3x mag it has 50/3 = 16.6 exit pupil (fine up to 7 and then meaningless after that) AND 50/9 = 5.5 at top magnification (not bad really). It will operate best in low light at about x7.25 though, as this results in an exit pupil of around 7.
  13. The police have to know where they're kept. You must inform them right away that they are being relocated to a new address.
  14. Stuart P is right. You can't say how the cops will act, they're unreliable and inconsistent at best and stupid at worst. Fact is that having something on you signed by the land owner WITH a contact number is better than having nothing at all to show them if challenged. Regardless of what everyone, including the BASC, says.
  15. Hi Jack I'm interested mate. Don't know a lot about air weapons though. Are the cartridges easily obtainable from a normal gun shop and approx how much are they/how many shots do they give?
  16. Yeah Mr Jack Clue us in.... what's the gun a 12lb .22?
  17. Marlin, You'll be glad you went for the CZ, with the mod on it it's the silent and deadly choice of the stealthy bunny hunter.
  18. Since you wanted to know about light bulbs... here's a good URL on how light bulbs (lamps) work. http://science.howstuffworks.com/light-bulb.htm
  19. I'm fairly sure that's rubbish buddy. I've always needed my ticket when buying shotgun and/or rifle ammo. Because the shop has to account for the drop in their stock, so they need to record what they sell you on your ticket and also in their big book. I wouldn't bother trying to buy any ammo without having your ticket with you, I'm sure it would be illegal to sell it to you that way.
  20. The bolt and mag on my centrefire are removed both during transit and even in the cab and locked in the ammo safe at the top. My rimfire is a semi so I can only remove the mag from that, without stripping it down.
  21. Much as the death penalty appeals to me too, I'd have to go with Axe on this. Make it a living hell, s*d any rights they think they should have, and if they act up inside let the screws give 'em a good kicking till they behave, it would undoubtedly work and be cheaper than the life we pay for them to have at the moment. A few years of that and they wouldn't re-offend, except perhaps rarely, then lock 'em up for good. This also avoids mistakes and killing an innocent person. But would deter the recidavists.
  22. Ive just bought a wall safe from B&Q for ammo and it only cost £30 less 10% because there was a sale on. I was advised by the FEO to buy a wall safe as my cabinet hasnt got a seperate section in it, he granted my SGC which arrived yesterday and told me ide have no probs with FAC. The application has gone in and i await another visit. Hope this is of some help. cheers hughiep But Shotgun ammo doesn't need to be locked up, just stored out of sight. Did your FEO make your having an ammo safe a condition of gaining your SGC? Of course, if you're planning on an FAC at a later date then it's a wise move buying the ammo safe now. Certainly in Hampshire and also Thames Valley shotgun ammo doesn't need to be securely stored. I have nearly a 1000 shells in a hall cupboard. It's only my rifle ammo that has to be securely stored.
  23. You mean some people still have Dialup?
