  1. Not shooting , but did a good recce. Found a good wheat stubble, but the forecast it poor. I might get on sunday. Hitman.
  2. There are alot of young pigeons about up here , i was hoping to have a crack on saturday , but the weather forecast is poor , but better sunday. I have not noticed a decline in numbers this year in my patch , i only wish i had more time to cause one.
  3. Keep it going dave. Are you going to eat them ?. If you are there are alot of good recipes on here.
  4. Only 4 today WB .Rained off after an hour , hope others had more luck. Cheers Hitman.
  5. I had been watching a big field of rape stubble all week and all looked well. Because of work committments i started shooting at 2.30. The birds would not decoy , the rotary put them off then after an hour the heavens opened.End result 4 pigeons to go in the frying pan .Stubbles are normally good up here so i shall persevere.
  6. Shooting over OSR a few years back , a large party of pigeons landed 150yds from the hide. My shooting buddy decided to stalk down the hedge to get a crack. Now i must add at 6ft 2 + 16 st and the stealth of a tank, he picked up 7 pigeons with one shot. Absolute fluke.

    Lost

I think lost is great , when the loved one is watching it i get a chance to get on the pc.
  8. I like no7 shot , although not an ounce load. Normally its 32g rottweil , tidy bag WB.
  9. Rape stubble is the big draw up here. Hoping to have a go this weekend if the farmers dont plough them first.
  10. The birds in my area are all over the place clover, setaside, uncut rape, barley/wheat tramlines. The OSR up here is at least 4 weeks away from being cut, so the signs are good for aug/sept.
  11. I am with you redthunder on the rottweils,as i have stated on this forum many times ,rottweil 32g trap no7 is what i use on all game and pigeons.
  12. I have never had a problem with ejectors , and i have put thousands of shells through it. If you want a solid knock about gun , go for a medallist.
  13. If any of you are on a fishing trip in scotland , go to the watch water reservoir near Duns ,you will be in for a treat. A pair of osprey hunt there in full view of the fishermen, the owner told me they take some good fish. I was there last month and spent most of the day watching them .
  14. I have been shooting the same medallist for 12yrs ,mostly for pigeons and cannot fault it, cheap reliable multi choke, i suppose its the skoda of shotguns. If this one packed in i would have another for sure.
  15. When owen was injured ,sven was not strong enough to play walcott ,and went to a formation the players were not comfortable with. When it comes down to penalties its a lottery ,Shearer always scored when we need him, and you would expect the same from Lampard and Gerrard. If i was a betting man i would put my money on Germany now. Gutted
  16. The world cup is in full swing, but what is your perfect england team ,you can pick any english player from history.I have chosen from the players i have seen, but not players i was to young to see. shilton pearce terry adams a. cole robson gazza gerrard beckham beardsley shearer subs; rooney , lineker , hoddle
  17. Most of the pigeons i shoot go to the gamedealer, some i eat. I have a nice little flight pond, which gives up about 30 mallard and a few teal every season , all of which i eat or give to friends. All the pheasants i get on my walk up shoot also go in the pot.
  18. Bigsam is spot on , i would also never shoot a roost wood every week .I have three woods on different farms and shoot them in rotation. if you only have one roost wood , shoot it as you would a duck pond, once a fortnight.
  19. 6/10 for me, pure luck i quessed 8 of them, Good fun though.
  20. I am no expert, and what i referred to as a polecat has been a polecat coloured ferret .Thanks for that ferret master, i did not know pure polecats are so rare, have you ever owned one?.
  21. Years ago i did loads of ferreting, and owned a female polecat, she loved being worked and was also playful with its workmates. I also had a male ferret, who must have worked for the local council in a past life, working was not at the top of his ,things to do today list. So in my experience polecats work best.
  22. I have always used tea tree oil , a couple of drops rubbed in your hands then on your face, neck, and hair. It also works abroad on the mosquitos, hope this helps you bud.
  23. Never think us young guns are the best shots ,the shooters who came before us have done it all before. When i was a kid my dad was pals with an old gamekeeper, who at 19 in 1941, was a expert deer stalker. When the army realized his skill he was sent out as a sniper on special ops,he was allowed to pick the gun of his choice, and although he never spoke much of the war,at his funeral one of his colleagues said he had at least 20 kills.
  24. Save your money.Hold your quarry in your left (or right hand) ,with wings held down, then with your free hand turn its head about 2 1/2 times until you feel a click, and that is that. I have done this thousands of times ,quick and effective. Hitman.
  25. I could sit all day and watch pine martens , you're well lucky frank.
