  1. Hi I am considering having my spanish side lock side by side converted to a multi choke. I presume this will need a reproof. Has any one got information on who could carry out this task and what costs could be involved. Regards Frank
  2. HI Any ideas who can do this and what the costs would be. I also have a SBS Sidelock which could do with a bit off the end to make it handle better, ( added explanation for deershooter )also covering the same criteria as the auto. Frank
  3. Hi before you get involved in mechanical solutions check your LOP. I have had double disscharging barrels and had the same frightening thought. The fact of the matter turned out to be a stock which was to long for me consequently squeasing the front trigger with an over extended finger, this sliped off through recoil onto the rear trigger discharging the second, it can also happen if your fingers are frozen/cold, give it a thought if you have not allready. Good luck with it Frank
  4. Great job, I have been there and done that, nothing like doing something for the kids, loved every second, now looking forward to doing the same for the grandkids if my body will stand up to it. All the best Frank
  5. Hi take a look in the guns and ammo section and see the replies I have had, some very interesting and informative, information which I have been pleased to recieve and allso allowed me to make a decision. Regards Frank PS my dad had a skeleton stock .410 with the barrel flush with the butt,it fitted into an inside pocket in his great coat (Greengrass type). it took some good field craft to keep us in with food in the post war days around Beverley, I got many a thick lugg for spooking the rabbits as a kid, however I have very fond memories of the gun and the forays early Sunday mornings.
  6. Hi Deershooter. As I am in preference of shorter barrels and I am not endowed with long legs as others are and 65 years old, the gun will be lighter and is less prone to fouling i.e geting poked into muck or snow (an experience I have had with my 30" Browning), gives a sense of faster handling and is hide friendly. 'With this post I was exploring the options'. Not preparing for a bank job or an assination, for which one gets a very long holiday at the queens pleasure and no breaks for the game season. Hence exploring the legalities. I have costed a new barrel from the importer of Escorts which turned out to be much more than I am willing or can afford to pay, I have and intended to retain the 28" barrel which came with the gun although it was sold as a 26" barrel, none the less I had a gun at a reasonable cost, I had seen another barrel offered at a price I could afford and thought of passing the shortening idea past the PW members, yes I would loose all choke in the barrel but from past experience open chokes have been beneficial in the locations where I shoot so that was not an issue, (where I to sell the gun the cut barrel would have been placed in a fire and then flattened,) if I required the choke option for say inland goose shooting I then have the option of the multi choke 28" barrel or the 31/2" chambered Browning which incidentaly seems to weigh a ton. I have now aquired a 25" barrel from my local gun dealer W Richards who was able to supply a second hand one at an extremly good price, ok it used and a bore barrel according to my choke gauge which will do me fine, and no I do not intend fireing slugs or ball. I hope that satisfies your curiosity and please keep in mind although other people do have different oppinions they are as valid as yours. Regards Frank Have a good weekend all
  7. Got fixed up with a barrel at W Richards Pocklington E Yorks For PW 'Berreta Italy' the guns I inspected where at another dealer in E Yorks 29 years back
  8. Hi all , solved the problem, my local RFD has some second hand barrels, I got a 25" one it will do the job ok. Thanks for the interest and support. Regards Frank
  9. Thanks guys for the interest and advice, with today being a day off I poped in to my local RFD Chris Caine at W Richards in Pocklington, came up with a 25" barrel straight away, its more than possible he has other barrels. Thanks again Frank
  10. I have had 3 shots with mine, conected once, not expecting extraordinary performance, bought at a price I could not refuse. I have heard all the anecdotal complaints fron the don't owners and self styled experts dating back to my VW beetle in the 60s 'now they didnt do well did they', the Baikal which out shoots 'quality guns'and had a better wood and finish than the berretas I inspected prior to buying the Baikal. I could go on and on about this snobery. Putting this aside any of you Hatsan haters got a short unsplit intact 24" or 25" or 26" 12 gauge auto barrel to sell with or without chokes, come to think any Hatsan barrel will do if I can cut it down without breaching the law. Frank
  11. Can ay one please tell me what the legal stance is on a gun owner reducing the length of a shotgun barrel. Regards Frank
  12. Thanks for the information, I have had a reply today, Edgar Bros have had a delivery of barrels, though not yet proofed, the price would be £167.00, however this will have to be ordered through one of their RFDs, dont know if that includes thr RFD fee or not. Regards Frank
  13. Thanks for the offer, I have a 28" barrel, still find it to long for short legs. Frank
  14. Thanks for the tip , went on Edgar Bros web site and saw what they had , asked the question what price, no answer, I will have to phone or email direct. Frank
  15. I started my lad with a 4.10 20 years ago, instead he now makes and uses his own nets and accounts for more rabbits than I ever did or could hope to with a gun. Having said that I still bought a double 4.10 last year, the type which I drooled over as a kid 55 years ago. Give the nets another 3 years, gain the enjoyment and experience then have another think, a well trained dog adds to the enjoyment and the bag. All the best in your efforts, I hope the buzz lasts a long time. Frank
