  5. As the heading describes After a fantastic night with birds mimicking every hard to hit bird, I managed to pull down 12 for 27shots, admitedly half were sitters but killing pigeons is why I am there. After doing a full dressing session,I full pluck and split the back with a pair of secateurs, this being easier than the key hole surgery the wife performs, 'if I am lucky', this also serves to inspect the cavity for parasites, this being prompted after finding tape worms in pigeons, ducks and hares out of the same field. On inspection of this particular bird I found WHITE OBJECTS EMBEDDED IN THE BREAST BEHIND THE CROP MEMBRAINE aprox 1/2mm x 2mm probably 30 to 40 these extended through the throat tract into the front cavity, Naturally I have not included this for human consumption. Any one got any ideas what these are and are the likely to be a problem to humans , ferrets or dogs. Regards Frank

  7. Hi all Nice to see its happening elswere. It has been common in East Yorkshire to do the woods on Fridays, I am sure it also went into the first two weeks in march when I had my first experience with shotgun use back in 1963. This being a reward for the beaters if you could skive off school and bike to the keepers (Charlie Altoft) house at Eske, from there being loaned a side by side twelve with one usable barrel (tuther being twisted) Very fond memories Thank's Charlie, rest in piece. I now have the luck of another benefactor who allows me and my son to station our selves in the woods to control and harvest these tasty delights, as I am comming on 65 it's nice to get in a warm wood with a fallen branch to sit on and plug away at the varied and testing shots presented without having to lug mountains of kit on the off chance of deeking birds in. I am getting as exited as an old bu**er can get in anticipation of the sport to come, I hope you all have a great February and please try and introduce some one new to the game, it helps when we have numbers to speek when things are not going well for us normal people
  8. HI IF THEY ARE IN 10s AND PAPER THEY WILL BE VERY OLD, 42 YEARS+!!! , SUCEPTABLE TO SWELLING WHEN IN WET CONDITIONS. HOWEVER I FOUND THE BAIKAL RECORD CARTRIDGES ARE THE BEST HARD HITTING CARTRIDGES I HAVE EVER USED, I WOULD DEFINATELY BE PLEASED TO SEE THEM BACK ON THE MARKET AGAIN ESPECIALY AT THEIR ORIGINAL PRICE I BELIEVE THEY HAVE A MV OF +1500fps (IT HELPS WITH CUREING TAIL SHOOTING) BEST OF LUCK, HAVE PLENTY OF FUN. REGARDS FRANK

  11. Hi Cleaning and running in a .17, I was advised to clean every 5 shots, dont allow the barrel to get hot, after 200 shots clean after 10, 200 more then 25, it means having your bore snake with you at all times but thats not a bad habit to get into, bit of a B acher when zeroing but well worth it. If you have not used one before be prepared for an amazing experience, I have had some unbelievable head shots, spot on accurate at distances over 100m where a .22 is wishfull thinking. Avoid body shots or the meat is paste and scrambled bone All the best for your forthcomming enjoyment. Frank
