  1. But I wont be able to shoot steel through my old Damascus barrels anyway so I am stuffed either way up. Such is life.
  2. Thanks I have been several times but I used to shoot at Lakeside at my convenience and most weeks.
  3. Also a bit more gentle on my old shoulder.
  4. Just been banned from shooting black powder at my local clay ground. The excuse being noise! I really enjoyed shooting my old hammerguns all of which are only proofed for the black stuff. Other shooters usually very interested in the guns and end up doing more talking than shooting, a social thing. Cant do this cant do that, time to pack it all in methinks. Lovely Christmas present.
  5. I spent a fortune at my opticians with "special" coatings to stop this glare, did no good, changed opticians to be told the problem was cataracts. Had both eyes done and now no problem except of course glare from the stupid superbrights which affect everyone. We have a local road a mile or so long and straight, cycle track runs alongside this road. I find some approaching bike lights worse than any car!

I got sick every time we went to sea. Destroyers can bounce about a bit. My immediate family have over 100 years of military service.
  7. When we visit our daughter in Canada we call at an Irving big stop. A long distant truckers favourite place to eat. Liver and onions with mash is a favourite dish," I have a childs portion and only just get through it". The cheap huge meals are to attract the truckers who top up their fuel tanks on the big rigs. Lovely grub.
  8. It's faster now than it was when it wasn't as fast as it is now.😁 No problems here.

We should all talk more. If you have kids tell them what life was like. If you still have a father let him tell you. If we are not careful it will all be lost! Reading about the past is just not the same You/they should be made to feel what it was like. Reading about hiding under the kitchen table in the war is just not the same as it being described to you. I had three older brothers who served in WW2 and I regret not talking to them about it. Too late now, all dead. I did not know until he died that one brother was involved in 11 Russian convoys on a Corvette. That was a real nasty theatre of war. We dressed much the same in destroyers. All very different now I guess.

Thanks for that. My time was in the 1950s Interesting reading. We had a Navy to be proud of.

This time of year my mind always turns to a time long ago, The ship I was a silly sailor on HMS Hogue. a battle class destroyer, had just departed to Iceland to protect our fishing boats in the first Cod war. I had left a wife with a baby daughter only a few months old ."That same daughter has just retired" The weather was so bad at times we spent lots of hours chipping ice from the superstructure. Back home after new year, a few weeks leave and off to the far East for 18 months. Rammed an Indian cruiser in the Indian ocean and took the bows off. Nearly sank. Waited in Trinco for a replacement ship to be brought out of mothballs and continued the cruise. Now just an old guy with memories, but what memories, life has not exactly been boring.
  18. wow. How to get yourself a week off!
  19. Just wait till you get old. Last year £640 this year £980. Looked at 16 other insurers, some refused altogether but between them all similar prices, some really silly£16/1800.
  20. Wife and I share. Small fish and large chips small curry sauce. There is plenty for two. £10.70
  21. I bought a Kofs .410 for the grandkids "two girls" to have a play with. Whilst obviously not being in the Browning Beretta class the gun works well, no problems yet and seems reasonably well made. Resale value is poor but so is it with most guns just recently. unless to pay a lot of money.
