  1. the best ones to gut are ducks that have been feeding on frosted potatos, they smell lovely  instead of poking your finger up its hole try cutting the whole ring piece away, hold the ring piece between finger and thumb and cut it away so there is nothing left connecting the pipe to the body. this way the guts come away clean and you can be sure there is nothing left to contain any nastys
  2. i have goose sillo socks and mallard and goose FUDs, both types of goose decoy work very well if the birds are willing to play ball, though its the same as any decoy, some days no matter what you do the birds just dont seem interested. we tried mallard FUDs on water last season and they were rubbish. it was a bit windy when we tried them, and whilst the plastic decoys were fine the FUDs were all laying on there sides, then it came a snowy shower and they all sank, nothing up but their tail feathers. i usually mix up the sillo socks and the FUDs when decoying geese, the sillo socks give a good amount of movement. i had the same problem with the metal pin coming off the head of the sillo sock so i took the pins out and put them all back in with a liberal amount of super glue and i havnt had any come out again. whoa, i better get to bed, i just had a little bolt of goose fever run through me there
  3. this might be worth keeping an eye on, My link
  4. leupold vx-1 3-9x50 or a vx-1 4-12x40 would be my choice of scope for a .17, i had the 4-12 on mine.
  5. i must have got a good pair of hunters because i have had my neoprene hunters for three years now and the only problem i have had with them was the thin red lining at the heel came through in a hole but they dont leak and are very warm, too warm in the summer maybe, but then again we dont get summers here  i do like my hunters and cant see why they wont do another three years

    Tattoo design

i had a tattoo done in edinburgh a few months ago and it was £80 an hour. it took an hour to do but during that hour the guy was asking me for tips on how to go about laying laminate flooring in his kitchen and in the end he only took £60
  7. my browning ultra gti is proofed to 850bar but all of the clay shells i use including the 24gr no9 skeet shells are all 900bar. the only shell i have thats 850 is a light 2 1/2" 30gram no 5, i think it was hull maybe. i thought it was a bit odd that even the 24gram shells were over what the gun was proofed too. not that i am perticularly worried about it but i dont think i will be putting any mini mags through it.
  8. the range was set out with a range finder from my shed door across to the end of an old house, 245 yards. it was with my .223 a-bolt and the new to me scope i got a few weeks ago, a leupold vx-111 6.5-22x40. it was completely flat calm, not a breath of wind. the target is 2". it was probably just a happening, probably never be able to do it again  all the shots felt perfect except for the first one. i do love the new scope though
  9. i have been playing around with my new lee neck sizing die and i am well chuffed with it. finally the wind fell away last night for a while, this last week and a half has been 25-30 mph winds right across where i shoot. i shot a 1/4" 5 shot group at 100 yards then set up the target at 250 yards and was pleasantly surprised when i went to get the target to find a nice 1/2" group. for some reason on the first shot i pulled the trigger like i was pulling on a hand brake the rest felt good and shot good.
  10. looks like great fun, someday i might get there with my 30-06. thanks for sharing
  11. the winchester small rifle primers i buy here are £40 per 1000, not sure what they are else where
  12. all i am saying is I have not heard of anyone applying for a rifle and putting in for a .22 rifle with the thought of buying anything from a .22 lr up to a .22-250!!!
  13. i think homosexuals getting married in a church is wrong. it goes against gods commands, there is no two ways about it, and to marry gays in gods house is in my opinion a bad move. if they want to get married thats fine, there are far worse things going on on our doorsteps just dont make a mockery of the christian faith by doing it in a church.
  14. here in shetland most people apply for either a .22rf or .22cf giving them the option of .22lr/.22wmr or any of the .22 centerfires, never heard of ".22 rifle" covering everything.
  15. my friend got a nikon prostaff 3-9x50 BDC with his howa and i was impressed, one on the bay just now new 150 bucks
  16. after doing a bit of research i am thinking that a size 15 up the aris would not be great
  17. when i am shooting rabbits with the shotgun i use clay loads, 28gram 7 1/2. keep them fine and close with a tight choke, mayby half choke at no more than 25 yards, works fine for me.
  18. has any of you noticed any improvement in accuracy?
  19. i usually clean my rifle every time i reload which is 50 at a time, although me being a lazy *****r i sometimes miss a clean and it is 100 rounds before i clean it . having said that, my rifle likes a dirty barrel over a clean one, if it was the other way round i would clean it more often.
  20. my friends howa shoots 3/8" groups with 52 a-max and 24grains of H4895 which is less than their starting weight but both our rifles shoot well with it
  21. this is the closest to chrome i can find. fin classic
  22. i quite fancy trying a boyds stock on my 700 BDL, is there anyone on here who has ordered one from america? can you give me any info on these stocks, thanks in advance, aister
  23. weight has a lot to do with felt recoil, i remember firing a 2oz AAA express cartrige through my tightly choked single baikal, it felt as though my brains were going to run out my nose. at the time i had a spanish side by side that had 'solway magnum' stamped on it, it was a heavy gun with 32" barrels and tight chokes and i could fire those heavy 2oz loads through that gun fine, admittedly its not a combination you would fire all day in a t-shirt and shooting vest
