  1. i have no complaints about the hawke lrf 600 i have, does what it says on the tin
  2. out for a wander today with the .22 and got 30 total 873
  3. if i am on unfamiliar ground i use one and if i am out with the 223 and laying up somewhere waiting for rabbits to show up then i use one. someone said earlier about finding it tricky to guess range on open land, i recall the first time i was up in the hill after a hare or two for the pot with my .17hmr and up there there is no features at all , no fences or nothing, i saw a hare sitting in the sun sticking out like a sore thumb, white against the brown heather. i guessed he would be about 100 yards so i held where i thought and fired, he never even blinked so i fired again, nothing, and on the 3rd shot i saw the pullet hitting in the peat about 18-20 inches low :o. after the third shot he ran off and i paced it out and i forget how far away he actually was, probably somewhere around 200-250. i was stunned by how far out i was, but with no buildings or fences around, it was easy to make a mistake. i always take the range finder on the hill now
  4. if it were me, i would go for the browning x-bolt
  5. here on the croft where i stay i shoot out of an old vitara, i fixed the padded arm from an office chair to the wing mirror for a rest and shoot the rabbits in the head lights. when lamping else where my mate has access to a shogun, he drives shooting anything in the headlights and i use a scope mounted lamp out the passengers side window, works well for us . the vitara is brilliant, its so light even when its wet it doesn't leave great big ruts in the park
  6. 30-30 win, 300 savage, 30-40 krag, 308 win, 30-06, 300 h&h, 300 RSAUM, 300 WSM, 300 win mag, 300 weatherby mag, 300 RUM, 30-378 weatherby, 303
  7. i have a leupold 6x42 on my .22 and love it although as enigma said nikon prostaff with the BDL reticle is great, my pal has one on his .223 and i was very impressed
  8. i wouldn't want wildfowling on a sunday to be legal, because the birds get such a hammering the rest of the week here where i shoot, especially october november time when the migrants come in. its the same as the nature reserve we have, people lament about all the birds on there that cant be touched but personaly i think its good that the birds have somewhere they can be in peace. imo i think if there was shooting on a sunday and nowhere for the birds to go to, like the reserve, there would be less birds around as they would simply move on.
  9. certificate came back today with a slots for a hornet and mod, a 6.5x55 and mod and a mod for the 30-06, i feel a spending spree coming up oh no thats right, i am married
  10. i once shot a rabbit that was so far away it was rotten by the time i walked up to it :o. it was quite warm for the time of year but even still it was a cracking shot
  11. my mate has just bought one in .223 and i was impressed. 55gr ppu was a 1" 5 shot group at at 100yards. i am tempted to buy one in 6.5x55 when my ticket comes, which shouldn't be far away (fingers crossed). i posted a thread on here a week or so ago about his howa
  12. totaly agree with coyotemaster . keep an eye going on the bay, i have a leupold 3-9x40 on my 30-06 that i paid £165 for which would be ideal for your .17. theres 3 leupolds on there just now that are under £100 at the moment
  13. i have always used millett mounts on my rim fires
  14. good stuff buddy . your gona love that a-bolt
  15. i tried some when i had the 17 hmr and the cz i had hated them.
  16. we pay £12 here in shetland for PPU
  17. me and my buddy finally got a calm enough day to try out his new howa .223 and i was well impressed. we tried some 55gr PPU first then we tried some of my home loads that i use in my a-bolt which is winchester brass, winchester primers, 52gr a-max over 24gr of H4895. thinking we might have to tweek the homeloads a bit to suit his rifle i took all my reloading gear to his but in the end we didn't need it as he was happy enough with how it performed, which is good cause we can crank out the home loads for both rifles without any alteration. here is a couple of pics to let you know how we got on. the first pic is the PPU and the second pic is the home load, both 5 shots and both next to a penny. thumbs up for the howa and nikon pro staff BDC scope :good:

  21. i bought a 28" ultra last summer and love it, fits me really well. i have had no trouble with it unless for a small split in the fore end resulting in a small piece falling off, sorted now with some super duper glue. i knew the guy i bought it from and he never had any trouble with it at all, not sure how old it is but it is well used. nice guns :good:
  22. this is my my first fixed power leupold and yes i am impressed, great light gathering for a mid price range scope :good:
