  1. I drilled 30mm holes through the plasterboard and turned up some mild steel spacers then used the normal expanding fittings in the external wall. My cabinet stands a couple of mm away from the plasterboard but it can't be moved.

    Getting old...

There are supposed to be four stages of getting old-- 1) Your eye-sight starts going 2)The hair thins/goes grey 3)You forget to zip-up 4)You forget to un-zip!
  3. Non at all here in North Hampshire, I think late frosts did for them because there was a lot of blossom early on.
  4. I've always heard that "professional" burglars won't touch a gun cabinet. Just lets hope all our details have not been downloaded in one of the many security cock-ups over the last year or so!
  5. I've been using them for some time, never had a single problem.
  6. Yes, I've been a member for many years. They have helped me a couple of times dealing with a useless firearms department.
  7. I don't know why steel gets knocked like it does (except for ricochets and the joy of chewing the pellets!) I've used quite a few, mainly on ducks and geese and have to say that I like them. The few that i've used on pigeons where no different to lead-- if you hit the bird it comes down.
  8. Boss for me please, I load for a couple of guys through the season one has a pair of Purdeys that break down more often than my first car-despite large sums of money being spent and the other a pair of single trigger Boss (1930's) they do get serviced and they never go wrong. I used one once to blow a pricked bird out of a tree! I also think that Boss are the only English owned company (but I might be wrong).
  9. A field near me on a bank is always good for the sort of shooting you are thinking of. I usually wait till I've seen a few sitting in the sun and then set up. It works best on sunny days- give it a go, best of luck.
  10. We will be attending if the weather looks OK as its not far away, but otherwise its going to be the CLA (also fairly local).
  11. I dont remember who makes it, but if you look on the cleaning shelves at a supermarket you should find a small aerosol of " Dry cleaning spray". Follow the instructions, its good stuff and will remove mineral oil from any porous surface.
  12. Self, Wife and little Lucy will go probably on the Sunday.Always like this fair, its still "rural".

    Swallows

Saw a couple on Sunday in Silchester.
  14. A bit off topic I know but I have to agree with Dr W about the supermarkets and their rules for suppliers. Some years back I had shooting permission on a farm that was mainly market garden, the farmer grabbed me one evening and asked if I could put some effort into shooting the rats round the waste piles, said yes and bought the rimfire out, good backdrop, lots of dead rats. I told him a few days later that he wouldn't have so many rats if the waste was reduced-- think I touched a nerve! The "waste" in question were runner beans and he showed me the "template" that beans had to pass through before the supermarket would buy them! Perfectly good beans that had to go to compost because they had a curve in them and could not fit in the trays for display.
  15. Yes LEFTY 478, I can also remember that you would rather be sealed into a pit of your own filth or stand naked in front of the Queen than wear the hood of your duffle coat! Well if any of your mates were around!!
