  1. Whitebridges, George Digweed did have a rather good day organised by Phil Beesley, this was featured in Shooting Gazette.Subsequently been bettered by a guy from Lincolnshire twice.Could find the articles if you wish but I find it boring. As I have posted many times, shooting should be up the hedgerow, kill a few, prop 'em up,kill a few more, go home and clean and cook 'em.Unless your doing pest control of cause. But baiting a field aint pest control in my humble opinion.
  2. Kdubya, You said you do like your 3 leg stool if you could stop it sinking in. Have you tried this, a piece of either plywood or canvas slightly bigger than the legs triangular distance with 3 pockets or stops to hold the feet base, punch some holes about 25mm dia and it grips on soft earth and mud.I have adapted an office swivel chair, multi lightning holes (like a piece of gorgonzola) and a folding foot spreader plate, cost free from work but you could find them on the tip.
  3. Marco, nothing personal was ever intended.I am sure everyone understood the point I was trying to make.Yes it is time to move on.
  4. If Gemini can come up with such sound advice, surely we should all be capable of finding the answers from suitable sources. The point seems to have been missed that this is a pigeon shooting forum,to share tips and techniques to decoy pigeons.
  5. May I ask you give some indication of the time you shot the birds in your posts, as they may well be empty early in the morning, or may have small quantity of acorn, beechmast or ivy from earlier but may now be being shot over oilseed rape
  6. I think I now understand why many of the older members of this site are leaving.Sad to see Eugene may be one of them. But really chaps some of your questions are pathetic. Why don't you go to your local library and get a book such as "Shooting for Beginners" or Coates's or Batley's on pigeonshooting before posting such stupid, spacewasting questions? This is supposed to be Tips & Tricks about decoying and pigeonshooting.
  7. Bah, Humbug, 20 next year, nearly catching me up you whippersnapper,if at first you don't succeed perhaps skydiving is not for you.
  8. They asked for comments by contacting Ch4 website, so now is our chance to ask for similar programmes and a repeat.Get emailing.
  9. The programme was excellent, fair minded, balanced, what was worrying was the spokesman from Animal Aid who said they have to start somewhere, so it was hunting, before farming, shooting & fishing.Germain Greer presented a fantastic programme showing herself to be a caring, sensible, person. The end with the rabbits was priceless. It should be shown at morning assembly in all schools, then for sports lessons the children should run the anti's to ground.
  10. Deako, Was he pushed or did he fall?
  11. Shropshire/Staffordshire Feeding on woodland edges, not flocking, max numbers observed together 20, more 2 to 4, shot some missed some, crops contained acorns, beechmast, majority.Sunday observed, shot and lifted birds off Ivy, crops contained mostly Ivy some had wheat in them (not much) this was 9am cold and miserable day. Hope this helps a little.Salopian.
  12. Gentlemen, I think it is time to get real £150 High Gun & cash prizes to 5th place. Open to CPSA 'A' class and below but not the 'pot' hunters, you have to be kidding. There are sandbaggers out there in 'C' class shooting 86 to 91 out of a 100 at registered shoots. One guy, a keeper from Hereford won over £500 in The White Gold Cup some years ago who is not classified at all therefore he is classed as a novice.Make no mistake with £150 up for grabs the shoot will be oversubscribed, good, and a resounding success, so if you think you can shoot and want a good day out, fantastic ground (white trainer shoe friendly (not muddy) ) and good food get your entry sent in.If the pigeon are quiet I will be there, in fact I can decoy early, clayshoot, and then get back at 'em.
  13. For a number of years now I have used a canvas bag that was designed for carrying newspapers. But recently I have noticed these are made from plastic,so my next one may be Royal Mail, after all they don't use them for delivering post now do they?
  14. Without doubt floaters work well in a well presented pattern.Where as a magnet poorly used will spook the birds.I think a pecking bird and a flapper used sparingly can be deadly.Salopian
  15. I think York Guns deal in Ugartechea, and I seem to remember Uttings of Norwich dealing in them years ago.Your gun could well be 40 years old, it may have been on many a dealers shelf on sale or return or just like an AYA of mine only goes out on high days and holidays.Salopian
  16. Fisherman, I hope that at 6pm you are not in the land of plod. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE Salopian
  17. El Gringo Collecting books is like guns, unless you specialise perhaps on one make you could end up filling your house and losing your wife /partner (Wife said "either the guns & books go or I go") I do miss her.May I suggest you get a favourite gun then collect every written word about that make.Salopian
  18. El Gringo, I read your post and gave it a little thought, I believe there is probably a gunmaker (or even a few) for every letter of the alphabet. For a start the harder letters we have Zoli,Yuglis,Venables, can't think of a maker X but we do have the Xtrema. There were many English gunmakers in the 18th & 19th centuries and many books written about them.there are also many American,Italian,Belgian, German and Spanish gunmakers.Good luck with your research.Salopian
  19. I think Harry was extremely foolish, but surely he has minders and people around who should have advised him how daft he looked before he went out of the door.In mitigation it has to be said, "As a single parent child who's father may be struggling financially to cope with two growing lads eating him out of house and home he may have been forced to wear family hand me downs" Salopian.

  21. The debate over 12 versus 20 could go on for ever, there are a few things to take into consideration.Physical size of the person is important to consider (no posts from Millomite or Gemma required) a child would be tired carrying a 12 in the field thats why a 20 or 28 would be more suitable, the problem I find with people who complain of recoil with 20's is they invariably are using a load too heavy for the gun,W.W.Greener states that the gun should weigh 96 x the shot weight ideally therefore if you shoot 1oz your gun needs to weigh 6lbs minimum, heavier would reduce the felt recoil.International clayshooting require a maximum of 7/8 oz loads (except ZZ ) which is the standard 20 bore load but competitions are not normally won with 20 bore guns, this may be due to shot pattern performance.Which could lead on to another debate. In short, shoot what you are comfortable with.Happy is the one gun owner.Salopian.
  22. Never heard of him or Archie Coates,Peter Theobald,Will Garfit,Jim Albone,Phil &Will Beaseley or Tony Orchard who are they? Perhaps the public library may be able to help? Salopian Seriously Pete,John Batley is the Chairman of The Guntrade Association, former Pro-pigeon shooter and the Author of a pretty good book Pigeon Shooting.
  23. You can make very effective shell decoy props from the steel banding used on packing cases. Have also used old hacksaw blades. But the new decoys should be complete with sticks so phone the supplier and see where they are.Salopian
  24. Try The Cross Gun Club Kinver Telephone 07973 875449 Terry Hale for Eley, Express, Winchester, he can normally match anyone's price collect.Salopian.
  25. Millomite you could afford the NGO cut back on your drinking. I am a member of BASC, CA,CPSA,NGO, GC.I do not have more money than sense I just believe we need to protect our sport and if I am a member I can help any or all the organisations to do just that.Heaven forbid you ever injure, or get legal action against you, please get adequate insurance cover Millo.Salopian
