  1. I was told today that cartridges will be going up in price by 17% on August 1st and then a further 8% in September. Can anyone confirm this? Or is it scaremongering? :(
  2. Could you please give me your thoughts on the W&S range of guns? I believe all are made in Turkey and I saw a poster on this site has a 12g semi -auto that as been back for repair numerous times. Are they unreliable? I have tried to see one at a couple of local shops but they have no stock, saying that W&S are ******** merchants "Here next week" but never any stock. At the quoted retail prices I don't think I should expect quality, maybe better off with an Escort semi?
  3. Anyone requiring QUALITY shooting Instruction should try here www.shootinginstructors.co.uk.
  4. Hello All, For those of you that may be interested, there is a clayshoot on Wednesday evenings 6p.m. at the College( J12 M6, A5 to Gailey Island then A449 to Penkridge) the guy who runs it is a pigeon shooter so the targets are very realistic and testing. They have a practice / coaching stand for those who require tuition /help.Fibre Wad cartridges only.
  5. Insurance for shooting is exactly the same hassle as you have with House and Car Insurance. You pay your money, make your choice and hope to God nothing goes wrong. All the shooting organisations will provide you with a public liability / third party insurance included in the price of their membership, but beware! ! ! This cover is the very bare minimum indemnity, but it is better than nothing when you are in court. If you need Insurance to allow you to shoot for gain, i.e. Pest Control, Tuition etc., you will need Employers liability, Third party and Public liability. This as an individual is likely to cost in the region of £400 - 600. To my mind BASC offer the best protection due to their staff expertise although it must be said that the NGO etc., probably use the same Brokerage.CPSA is really only interested in Skeet shooters and you can shoot registered events as a none CPSA member for £2-50 per event.CPSA is dead but refuses to lie down.If any of you are shooting instructors and require Insurance join The Guild of Shooting Instructors where you get Insured.
  6. Hello Chaps, Currently waiting to see a specialist about my ticker.Off work going stir crazy. Does anyone have any pigeons that I can get out amongst in the West Midlands / Cheshire / Borders Counties ( Welsh) I just need to get out in the fresh air and have a bit of sport. Nothing moving round here.
  7. Most of us are aware of the wording and use of a General Licence to shoot woodies after we have ensured we have explored every other alternative???? My question is what is your interpretation and does this apply to Canada Geese?Do you think it is legal to shoot Canadas all year round as a pest species. Let the cabaret begin
  8. I would think it would be highly illegal to ' chuck them' or discard them in the rubbish or skip as they are classed as explosives. We recently had the local tip closed for a day because 2 shells were seen by an attendant. The bomb disposal guys from Hereford attended and declared the fired /used shells safe. Thanks for your advice.
  9. Any reloaders out there? I would appreciate your input on how to identify primers. I have been given a whole load of bits and bobs by a friend who has retired. They include primers of different appearance.Anyone know how to identify different types?
  10. Get in touch with Hunter, they are brilliant with customer care, I have had a pair of Hunters that I wear about 20 times a year for shooting days and I have had them for 17 years!!!!!! Heels have got a bit of camber on them now this may be their last year
  11. Quite a few people miss birds or clays crossing towards their gun (ie left to right for a righthander) because they 'race' the bird and as they push the gun left to right the gun moves away from the face and they lose all alignment with gun to target. The cure is to focus hard on the space ahead of the bird, keep facial contact with the comb of the stock, keep the line correct and keep the swing flowing.Remember to position your bodyline so that you are comfortable when you get the shot off, not offbalance and running out of swing (check body and foot position if shooting standing, adjust seating position if in a hide). Practice off peg 4 at a skeet layout.
  12. Butch's Boreshine, Parker Hale 009, or Ed's Red which you can Google for then make your own at very little cost.
  13. Years ago I did a lot of work finding out about wads and livestock.Sheep when grazing use their lips to pluck the grass and would probably reject plastic wads because of taste and texture, fibre and felt wads degrade very quickly and would cause little if any injury if eaten.Cows on the other hand chomp great mouthfulls of grass and can easily pickup any wad and swallow it,Eley did a lot of research where they fed cattle plastic wads purposely with no ill effects, they just passed through.Fibre wad technology has improved a lot recently and you will not be disadvantaged using them on pigeon out to extreme range. Taffy has split with his lady friend he took her for a meal, she said the food was like plastic. You have been warned, use fibre for marital harmony (or rubber)
  14. Chris, Spoke to a mate today he phoned and checked it out you are covered.
  15. Chris, I think CPSA does not cover you for shooting live quarry.
  16. If you want to see an idiot father click on this video http://www.alldumb.com/item/11522/
  17. Bought one 17 years ago it is still good as new never missed a beat, built on similar principles as Beretta DT10, ASE90, but better build quality.Bloody Beretta is broken,AGAIN.
  18. Who remembers "ratting" on the old canal till way after dark and going home to a house unlocked, lighting bangers, waiting till they fizzed and dropping them down drains? We blew a manhole cover off 100 yards (metres to you young 'uns) down the road once, probably caused by us igniting methane gas.
  19. Last week a little boy was knocked down and killed by a chap without a licence to drive, no MOT, Insurance.By the way the driver was an illegal immigrant who should have been deported 5 years ago but slipped the net due to "an administration error" Wolverhampton or Cannock area, so I suppose we will now pay to keep him locked up for a while. Why do we not identify their country of origin and fly them home, drop them off, sans parachute.
  20. No chance Phil would use one of those seats. His **** is too big :o
  21. The BBC have reportedly paid Brendan Fearon £4,000 of Tax payers money to describe is experience at the hands of notorious villain Norfolk farmer Tony Martin. What is wrong with that you may ask?Well Mr Martin defended his property after being repeatedly burgaled, he agreed to appear in the docu-drama for free.Fearon was one of the burglars with a string of convictions and WE pay him £4,000? Its enough to make your pee come in lumps. How much as this fiasco cost the taxpayer, the cost of the court case,Mr Martin's wrongful (in my opinion) imprisonment, his appeal hearing and I believe Fearon at one time sued for damages, who payed his solicitors fees? You because he is always (legally ) skint apart from when he allegedly does a burglary.Which of cause is not declarable income.Last one out of this country turn the light out if it hasn't been stolen.
  22. Brilliant,This is what I believe the forum is all about, real good debate and interaction. Whitebridges when I suggested a league table I was thinkinking along the lines of a referance to who's done what ,where & when, but your ideas seem good to me.Paul in N/Lincs & Fisherman Mike don't take the pee out of Hillbilly, you know how tuochy some people get on this forum!!!!! anyway hillbilly was using a 14 shot S/A Magnum with 2" shells so when fully loaded he had 27 aboard I know 'cause I was using my magnum wildfowling O/U 6 shot Shogun I am a Novaportan Old Rooster I have shot many times with the Major and had a few *****ckings, Lurcherboy, thanks appreciate your comment. Finally Will don't get so touchy you know they are only winding you up (baiting you) don't tell me Will, Shootwarehouse are now selling Millet
  23. Now we have started a good topic, it's got my nostalgia juices flowing, does anyone remember John Ranson from Powys, I believe he was credited with bettering (I don't like the word beat) Archie's record, then came GD then the guy from Lincoln,I think there might be someone from Cambridge also, perhaps we can compile a league table? It could give us something to aim for (no pun intended)but I have to say round here (Shropshire) it is dire at the moment to put a decent bag together.
  24. Tucker, As an experienced dog owner you realise the pups digestive system is a little weak at the moment so obviously give it time to settle in.But always bear in mind to much protein can make 'em hyper ( last thing that a spnl needs) we don't like fish n chips twice a day 7 days a week.Iams & Hills Science diet are favoured by vets because they get a very good mark up.I use local millers own maintenance dog food out of season £7-60 for 15Kg + Tripe & biscuit once a week.I fast them 1 day a week ( and myself) hope this is food for thought. No pun intended.
