  1. Have just got back home, had a good day today, made my mind up to go shooting what ever the weather today. Birds not feeding on the rape, still in the woods so I set up just inside the edge. Not very good but it beats being at work. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE Salopian
  2. Help please, has anyone tried Eley Superb's? Are they any good and how much per 1000? Thanks Salopian.
  3. Aled, for Christmas get a copy of Shooting for Beginners. It will improve your knowledge of shooting, the countryside, and English.Salopian
  4. These technical statements need to be backed up by scientific or hard facts, who says that full choke only goes 3 yards further? What conditions, wind direction, speed, time lapse between tests etc., you all know what I am getting at.As I have said before we are all different, guns, chokes, everything is variable.I think Sellior & Belliot are brilliant because they kill well but are very cheap. If you do not like Horlicks or Ovaltine try reading Shotgunning the art & science by Bob Brister,High Pheasants By Sir Ralph Payne -Gallway, Shotgun by Teasdale-Buckell.Me I prefer going up the hedgerow and having a shot at sporting quarry. Salopian
  5. White Fox, Three inexperienced guns? I think the choices are, Three experienced teachers, one for each pupil, or just 1 gun and you supervise each one in turn.I would not fancy being in the company of novices out alone roost shooting or not.Salopian
  6. I do not think there are any BAD cartridges, perhaps it is a fact of life (or death) that we all have off days.Talking of good cartridges I like JK6 but at £189 a thousand I save them for pheasants.RC are very good IMO but at the moment Eley VIP's and Hull Sovereigns in fibre take some beating. This thread could go on and on because obviously it is subject to opinion.Dry powder, straight shooting, pretty women, good food and drink, seasons greetings.Salopian.Oops sorry in this age of political correctness I didn't mean to offend, I should also say, pretty boys.Didn't want to leave anyone out.Salopian
  7. That's okay Berthaboo, apology accepted but not necessary. Perhaps your cartridge was a Winchester Silver?? (Joke) Salopian :(
  8. Pardon me if I have missed something, did I not say that it is better to have an experienced coach looking over your shoulder to assess where you are shooting?I also gave a description of the visual effects ( like a white light, or magnesium burning)I have 60 of them in stock from 3 different manufacturers and none of them have silver discs inside.I would not advise anyone to use them for fault diagnosis for themselves.I repeat you need an experienced person to tell you where you are placing the pattern in relationship to the target.Salopian
  9. That should have read AceTrace East Sussex TN6 2EG And Gamebore Great Union St., Hull
  10. Vermin Dropper, I know of 2 manufacturers. Acetrace Cartridges Ltd Tru-Tracer Unit 10 Lexden Lodge Ind. Est., Kent Cartridges Jarvis Brook,Crowborough, Now Gamebore East Sussex. TN6 2EG Great Union ST., Hull Yes everyone is correct they are quite poor, you need someone looking from behind your shoulder to see the tracer which is a white light, like a sparkler or magnesium burning.Save your money and get a good instructor or experienced person to give you some guidance. Regards Salopian
  11. Squintshot, In my experience guns that don't perform too well are normally suffering from a nut loose at the rear of the stock.Try tightening up its performance before blaming or changing the gun. Salopian
  12. Squintshot, It is very difficult to correctly diagnose a problem unseen, but the fact that the top barrel ejects unfired indicates the tripping rod is stuck forward.there is normally a rod or bar running through the action floor that upon opening the gun pushes back and inturn pushes the hammer back which is then restrained by the sear. You said this is not happening on the top barrel so look in this area for the fault.Regards Salopian
  13. Seeing the price of fireworks in the shops I don't know how they afford to waste them on these ghastly practices (unless of cause they are stolen) but someone knows the names of these vermin,so do us all a favour and name & shame, in fact I bet the Sun photographer knows them.Perhaps the courts should sentence the offenders to 1 hours detention in a locked room with the A.L.F. The ALF must have some use?? Salopian
  14. Greetings YP, My name is Salopian,I live in the Kingdom of Mercia,God sent me a sign saying because you own a larger Kingdom I should contact you to assist in my convalescence from a terrible disease called "Industrial Malaise" which causes me to walk around looking glum 5 days a week. The cure is to be invited pigeon shooting or driven game shooting at no expense to myself on days 6&7,I know from God's sign you are a kind person and you will be rewarded in heaven when you get there.I look forward to your car arriving to pick me up. Yours sincerely Prince Mutu of Salopia.
  15. There are two good articles in the magazines this week.Shooting Times has an article about range judging written by BASC's John Harradine.Shooting Gazette an article about pigeon decoying by a chap from Norfolk. Salopian
  16. Ollie, foam plugs have proven to be one of the best protectors and cost no more than 50p I will give you some but please do it know. Salopian
  17. Bird watching, although I am not an ornithologist. I have been called a horny theologist by birds. But I don't think that makes me Oddie. Salopian
  18. That is very interesting FM because I also leave a gift when I leave. When rabbit shooting obviously not everything I shoot is edible so I often open it up and leave it to nature. How many more do this and is it wrong? Salopian
  19. Ollie, Swift, Silent, Deadly. Shooting without hearing protection, deafness will be swift, you will experience silence, and that could prove deadly.Enough said. Salopian
  20. Well said Rifleman. The fact is The Association Of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) sit on all the Government committees that deal with firearm legislation. The fact is Thomas Hamilton (Dunblane) and Michael Ryan (Hungerford) were both known by the Police to be unstable, yet still allowed to hold firearms. The fact is Yardies and other gun toting criminals do not obtain/buy guns & ammunition legally they obtain them from thieving & burglary because we do not have effective policing of Britain anymore, so ACPO get your foundations sound before you build Ivory Towers.Get crime off the streets NOW. Salopian
  21. I have to agree Eugene with most of what you say.I believe if you murder someone you should be executed.I lost my Uncle,Aunt, cousin, when the nutter next door shot them,he then killed a petrol pump attendant. He got 7 years in prison and then was rehabilitated 1 mile away from me.When I complained people thought I was heartless and interfering when I campaigned to have him moved. The real issue is we have lost our sense of decency through violence shown in films and TV, and very poor education in the home and schools. Most children do not care about manners & morals.Well bred children stand out for miles nowadays. Salopian
  22. All the posts agree you cannot repair damaged hearing. But may I point out that perhaps the electric type may not be as effective as we believe. When I shoot I normally wear foam plugs plus my electric defenders with no problems. Some times , normally when instructing, I only wear my electrics and I often end up with a banging headache. The bonus you get with ear muffs is they keep your ears warm on cold days. Salopian
  23. If you disregard your time spent loading it is very economical to load your own and achieve excellant results. For special loads such as wildfowling it is very cost effective, nothing beats shooting well with a load you have developed or loaded yourself.Salopian
  24. As my contribution to the Pigeonwatch Giveaway. I would like to offer free shooting to the vermin who stole Beezer's decoys Vermin will be the quarry. Well done Deako I applaud you. Salopian
