    Gun Care

Never!! My shotgun is around 27 years old i think now its a browning double automatic which my dad bought and i bought it off him. Gun works as good as the day it was bought and is still in great nick. Which is a testemant to the handmade belgian brownings. The other day after having the gun out all day in bad weather was stripped completely down to its component parts everything cleaned and oiled and put back also reblued all outer metalwork as the barrel wasnt rusting but getting there.... gun now looks brill nice and shiny again still works flawless I cant see the point in getting a service must be an english thing once you look after it and oil it every time you use it the finish should last a good number of years as for the internals shouldnt have to touch them for a few years if you want to go at them drop the stock off wipe everything down oil with some quaility stuff wipe all excess off put it back together and bobs your uncle nothing to rifles at all. Main thing is keeping the water away from it but even new guns wont be bothered by this much. If gun gets wet leave it next to the aga overnight or radiator or immersion whatever you have give it a good drying off oil it and store it. Can someone explain what a service will do?
  3. I take it its a rimfire well theres alot of different views out there Alot of barrels will not fire exactly on zero from a cold barrel as well as clean barrel it really depends on your gun and barrel (sporter, heavy) you'll have to test it for hunting i'd recomend zeroing as normal and then leave the rifle 10mins fire a shot adjust fire another For target shooting whats done to overcome this is firing fouling shots your zero should be warm zero i guess you'd call it before firing for groups say 5 shots are fired to check the gun is on zero, to warm up the barrel and to foul the barrel (line it with lube from bullets and lead depoits) Some people clean the rifle after everytime out some clean it once a year barrels are all chromed nowadays so it wont do it any harm myself id clean it after every 50 shots or 2-3 weeks whichever comes first its a hunting rifle.

    Gun Care

Think mines called abbey or something its basically 3 in 1 though and i use wipe it on with a clean rag everywhere and it protects and enhances the finish For the insides i found an oil at a local mechanical engineering firm which is fantastic called metalec or something for fine mechanisms and is great at pentrating does a fine job on the insides of a gun and great for keeping rust off and is fine enough not to interfere with anything
  6. Wasnt me and afaik was legal not wanting to open up a debate here but the deer were on your mans property and where damaging his land here the deer are then classed as vermin and can be shot. They stop being vermin when you bring them back with you and eat them you have to bury them. Not to get away from the topic just proving the point of what a .22wmr is capable of and a well placed shot with one will take down alot of things
  7. Wouldn't use the polymer tipped bullets on foxes if it were me not that they wont do the job If you can get them id use hornady's 20gr Hollowpoint bullet will do a better job on foxes giving more penetration and controlled expansion wheras the Polymer's just fragment on impact and expolde i guess is how u'd describe it for a fox with a head shot thats fine but the 20 grainer will still do well on a head shot but if your shooting them anywhere else like the shoulder its a much better bullet
  8. How about a 10/22 and getting a fancy stock there must be tonnes around the place im sure you can get a steyr aug version edit here found this http://www.ironwooddesigns.com/2aprod/11022prod.html
  9. Technically id say the .22wmr it is a v.good round and much better for shooting foxes than a .17 i had one and my only problem is the tradjectory. I got the 17 because as i said the tradjectiry is dead flat just point and shoot. The 17 should suit you fine although if your doing alot of foxing and want to shoot them out at 100 yards a .22mag will do the job and out to 150 if you do your bit. For anyone that thinks this is pushin it i've known 6 deer taken recently with a .22wmr and they all dropped dead on the spot shots were around 50 yards. .22hornet is overkill imo but if your willing to pay for the ammo go for it will give you alot of better opertunitys for foxing
  10. One expands the other doesnt Most people use polymer tipped bullets in the hmr and when they hit anything the expand violently and mushroom and fragment tearing up everything it hits Non expanding ammo ie full metal jacket wouldnt expand very much at all when they hit anything Basically if your shooting a rabbit the polymer tips will create a big wound channel and wont penetrate a huge amount and if you hit them in the head they clean it out. If you do the same thing with FMJ's they will generally penetrate the length of the rabbit without and deformation at all and with very little fur damage
  11. Its looks like ill be able to buy the rifle the thread is 1/2"UNF standard is this the same threaf that a SAK moderator uses and if not would it be possible to rethread the moderator as opposed to getting the barrel done?
  12. I havent bought the rifle yet and me being able to sell the mod depends on me buying it which looks like it should be easy enough so i might go ahead thanks guys
  13. Buying a gun that has one of these on it but have no use for it how much would one of these fetch second hand in good condtion?
  14. Wow what you gonna do with all them!! We'd be lucky to see 10 in a season!! Never really understood driven shoots basically seemed like clay pigeon shooting with pheasants not that im criticising you or anything but whats the point in it although i can see how it would be great fun. Cheating would be how i describe it
  15. Go with the CZ you wont look back and while your at it get a cz/brno rimmy to match
  16. get a labrador who can hunt and you'll be set no chasing a springer around We used to have one that caught tonnes of rabbits and bring em back to us
  17. I'm a bit confused by all this i know there was a ban in the uk but are they allowed now? They were brought back in over here about 2 years ago now i think and since then alot of people have gotten them
  18. Cant see much takin them tbh i took the breast off one and left it for the dog and she wouldnt touch it looked disgusted when i put it in the dish.
  19. Ive got kinda bad i dont eat any of the stuff anymore im only home at weekends (college) and really dont get much of a chance. If i shoot duck or snipe i leave it with the farmer and he's only to happy to take it otherwise rabbits get left out for mr.fox or if i shoot alot they go as dog food.
  20. If it were me id approach the megane owner?? (person who did the damage) and tell them what you saw and give them a chance to correct the situation if they dont tell the person with the landrover what happened.
  21. Eh guys its a toy look at it it just screams out plastic
  22. yep hes right 10 shot only comes in .22lr/.17hm2
  23. Microsoft is a heap of **** get firefox!!
  24. Its very possible that you could take a puma with a rimmie but id rather a 22wmr than an lr. I know people who have shot countless deer with a .22wmr and have never had wounded shots its all in the placement that said id still think its stupid but obviously can be done. People have taken bears with a 22lr why not a puma. There are alot of factors though and probably the hardest would be getting close enough so that you can get an accurate shot in, the bullet has enough energy to shatter the back bone and of course more importantly not getting mauled Just to support the deer argument i dont know the figures but with say . 22wmr and a CF 22 a 22/250 or something assuming your using the same bullets would it not be the same shooting a deer at 40 yards with a .22wmr than shooting a deer at 450 yards with a 22/250 (both of which ive known ot be done one shot kills again same person and never had a wounded deer) As has been said a deer is a totally dif animal than a puma and i wouldnt like to be attemting either
  25. Is there a reason people go for a heart/lung shot over a head/neck/spine shot. I'm sayin im not tryin to start a debate but really i am sorry to hijack the thread. You say your shot was perfectly placed which means your shooting is perfect and you can hit what your aiming at but your not bringing your game down instantly which to me is what its about. When they run after they're shot the meat gets tensed when the beast gets scared and its not as nice. Head shots have been proven to take the animal down instantly with one shot or if you want to keep the head a shoulder/spine shot the animal drops on the spot and theres no fuss Im not trying to criticise you here obviously you take care to place your shot and shoot where your aiming maybe your just aiming in the wrong place
