    Home brew

I made crabapple cider last season from our own trees. Got it up to 9% but could strip paint with it. Had to dilute it to drink as it was too sharp. Will go for a four week ferment this season and aim for 6% with some fruit sugars left to improve the palatability. Also have some sloe gin maturing in the cupboard. With all of the homebrewers on here we'll have to have a PW home brew beer festival.
  2. Powder coating is fine for corrosion protection until you get a chip in the coating. Then water can get under the coating and cause unseen corrosion. I'd be concerned that any powder coating of a barrel could hide any corrosion until it had got really bad, whereas bluing protects but doesn't obscure any corrosion, meaning it can be dealt with earlier.
  3. Great article. Thanks for sharing. If you liked that, you might also like this similar photojournalism of a mothballed fleet of US Navy warships. http://scotthaefner.com/beyond/mothball-fleet-ghost-ships/
  4. Had mine for two seasons now and still going strong. Can't beat em
  5. Why not tape the clock to one side of the box and have the string pull the battery from through the opposite side.
  6. I use Peltor Sportacs. Worth every penny IMHO. Why risk something as irreplaceable as your hearing?
  7. Dougal, that you?

  8. Learn something every day. Cheers for the explanation Neil.
  9. Is it just me, or does the trigger in the above picture look like its been fitted backwards? It's prob just a trick of the light or something but made me look twice...
  10. ^^^ What he said. I use the New Zealand technique regularly and it's very good for all types of water.
  11. Nice info - thanks for sharing.
  12. Thanks all - appreciate the info. Alexr - I'd best keep saving then
  13. As per the title really - just curious as to the difference between these two designs.
  14. Thanks both - agree that the dogs in front require extra consideration. Slow & steady does it then. Margun - thanks for the tip on choke size - I currently have 1/4 & 1/2 installed. Should I change this to 1/4 and Cylinder?
  15. Great - thanks all for the suggestions. I'll try a DVD first.
  16. Interested in learning the theory behind dog training & dog psychology. Can anyone recommend a decent book that's pitched at the relative beginner to dog training - our current dog isn't a gundog breed but we've have had labs & retrievers in the family for many years previously so I'm familiar with the very basics but have never done any focussed training for shooting over or flushing/retrieving in the field. I'm not looking to train our current dog (she's beyond training ) - this is simply for interest just now. In the next 12-24 months we may get a cocker pup that I'd like to train, but that's a medium-long term plan.
  17. I have a walked up partridge day next week. Any tips or hints to offer? This will be my first day on live quarry and I don't want to fluff it. How do I ensure good clean kills? Anything else I should be aware of? Thanks, Andy
  18. I'm in a similar position to the OP - the advice on this thread is priceless. Keep it coming
  19. Love the knowledge & info on here. Learning so much on this thread.
  20. Hi all, New on here - thought I'd say hello. Relatively new shooter just looking to learn as much from you good folks as possible. Happy to contribute back in whatever way I can. Currently just shooting clays and hoping to graduate to pigeon/game when my aiming improves. Have enough trouble hitting the clays, never mind birds with a mind of their own! Cheers, Andy
