There all here around me in leicstershire over the past week the fields have came alive with pigeons nearly every rape field is grey with them the only problem is you turn up at the field take a couple of shots and they clear of to the nearest rape field and spend the day there the only way to stop this is to get about 5 guns all on seperate field in the same area but they will still find another field somewhere in the area. the increase in pigeons can be shown from the roost shoot i went to on saturday the total bag of pigeons was 93 it is normaly about 40 between the 12 of us who normally turn up.

when we have a fox we can never get because we always get there at the wrong time we use a clock. we bait a certain place for about a week and when the fox is taking them every night we set the clock, you put a small clock into a bucket with a hole in the side you then place a bit of 15 pound fishing line around the battery and thread the other end through the hole and tie to the bait when the fox comes along he pulls the bait which pulls the battery out.which stops the clock. Make sure the bucket is staked to the ground and that the battery comes out easily this may mean you may have to attach the clock to the opposite side of the bucket to the hole. after a few nights you will normaly find a time when the fox is coming regulary you will normaly find its in about a 20 min period. Then you just go down with the lamp and your fox should be about somewhere. :(

just got back 93 pigeons 12 crow 4 squirrels and 1 fox between 12 of us kill to shot ratio was rubbish overall due mostly to lack of wind there were 367 shots fired all together. we started at 3:45 finished about 6:00 i had 11 pigeons and a crow for 29 shots. every wood on the estate was covered. :(

heres one of my favourites when thers 2 of you in sepertate hides. leave about 15 yards between each group and about 40 between the hides. 2 way radios are worth buying aswell if you do alot of shooting with 2 hides l l x l x x l x x x hide 1 x x l l kill zone l l wind -> l x l x x l x l l kill zone l l hide 2 x x l x x x l x x l x l l

i go out with a small pack of fox hound about once a month they use the hounds to push the foxes out of the woods to awaiting guns when i go i use express 32gm no.2 and have not yet had the problem of a hit fox carrying on. but most the guns use 36gm no.4

My hit to kill ratio varys alot depending what i am shooting but i average about 80% on clays 50% on pigeon and around 40% on pheasant it also varys alot on the conditions as well because i have been roost shooting on still calm evenings when the birds are coming over really high and dropping into the inacssesible parts in the middle of the woods and probbably only hit 3 birds in 25 shots. :(

Pigeon shooting is a form of pest control so you shouldn't stop shooting because you think you are shooting to many it would be like a pest controller being called in to sort out a rat infestation but he only destroys half the rats there and then stopping because he is worried of what people will say. if the farmer wants you to controll the pigeons then do it he probably wont be to happy if you stop either. here in leicestershire we have more than our fair share of the uk's population of pigeons me and my dad have shot plenty of 100+ bags and a couple of 200+ bags, all of which are even eaten or sold, and that has probably not even dented the local population :(

While out shooting on boxing day i shot a fox, as it ran by before i shot it, its face looked deformed. but on closer inspection i found that it had stiches in its cheek and had been sprayed with that antibiotic spray, this one had clearly been released. also a friend of mine recently went lamping and saw a van parked by the side of a field in a layby and when he went back to that spot to lamp the field next to the layby he saw 12 foxes in it and shot 8 before they cleared off. Just how many foxes are being released? :(

i use bisley magnums as these fire best in my gun any othrs seem to deform going down the barrel as it is doing 30 foot per pound and yes it is on my F.A.C

i have shot and killed pigeons out at distances of 60 yards before and am always shooting out at 40 yards.when decoying. all i use is Express 32gm 7's and three quarter chokes

i got 2 polecats about 3 years ago and left them on there own, only bothered them when feeding and cleaning out. the winter came round got my ferrets and went out they never stoped biteing.so when i got home i started to handle them daily for about 2 hours a day and have done ever since, since then i have been bitten once and that was when seperating her from a rabbit she had caught.

i buy long fishing bank sticks cheap from game fairs, hammer the ends into spikes and spray MAT black then screw in the V shaped rod rests. they extend as well

Iv never been wildfowling on the forshore but we dug out are own flight pond last summer and had some great nights on it . best memory was when i took the farmer down for a flight and two teal came in he shot the first and as he swung through the second he fell in the look on his face was not one to miss. hopeing to get to scotland next season though with my mate and our dads on the geese should be a laugh.

i always use dead birds as you carn't beat the real thing but when forced to use plastic deaks i always glue real wings to them which i always keep in the freezer to keep fresher. :thumbs:

i have tried a lot of fox calls out but i get best results from a squirrel call i got given by my dad. it gives of a loud squeak that is ment to be a young squirrel but sounds more like a rabbit squealing
-
i always use half and three quarter when decoying but when it comes to roost shooting i use three quarter and full as they usuall come in very high and drop into the center of the woods. i have found these choke set ups work bests for me but it is really what suits you that counts
