  1. Stayed at Applecross a few times and you must go to the Applecross Inn - langoustines and Red Cuillan beer - fantastic :-) A cracking walk is along the ridge that runs parallel to the road round to the Inn great views and good path all the way. Longish walk but not too much of a slog to get up to it
  2. After about a year of scouring the country for a 32" MC Daytona I managed to track a good one down near my old haunts in Lincolnshire. I have owned it for about a year now and they are everything everyone has already said. Took me a while to make the change from my Browning though as the handling was much quicker so had to slow my swing down a lot! My only warning is about the trigger group, make sure that it is working correctly ie cycling after firing first barrel. The drop out trigger group is an impressive piece of engineering but some are flakey and from I have been told not many know how to fix them. Mine is 10 year old gun and is fine, but I had to return 2 others from elsewhere which had this issue despite being given assurances they had no foibles! IMHO they are every bit a high quality guns as Perazzi and Kemen and new today are a 10k gun and probably worth every penny of that if you can afford one, just don't hold their price for some daft reason or another. If you search the site you'll find some of my enquiries at the time, when I got good advice from Gordon R amongst others. I was severely tempted also by the same Gun that Gordon referred to but the cabinet is already full at the moment :-) Hope that helps a little and make sure to take time to find the right one, it will come along eventually. As I said I had money buring a hole for nearly a year before finding the right one :-)
  3. Or here; http://www.oilcareers.com/uk/?gclid=CMyRxPDw67gCFafLtAodFBAAjQ You might find it difficult to get out at first unless you're a time served sparky or mechanic etc. you could consider putting yourself through the RGIT course (google it and it will tell all) and start at the bottom as a roustabout or as a steward to get the rig experience. One thing I'll say about the oil industry is that it is possible to get on without high level qualifications if you show a willingness to work hard and have an aptitude for your job, oh and make best friends with The company man or rig manager :-)
  4. Could it have been Jonny Kwango? Didn't he used to do a flying head butt as his signature move?Used to get to stay up late on a Wednesday night to watch the mid-week wresting on Anglia telly.
  5. Nowt - on private well supply and a sceptic tank so no yearly bills. Just change the particle filters once a year on the water for about 25quid.
  6. Happy Birthday from the frozen North Tam
  7. Here is an idea lets commit mass genocide on the poor, who are not of anglo saxon origin and that will solve everything in the world. There really are some pillocks on here !!!
  8. Tiswas - best kids tv of all time - no question
  9. I used to regularly for work a number of year ago and because of corporate rates stay at the Sheraton in Sousse. Can thoroughly recommend the El Djem Amphitheatre at Hammam Sousse, incredible building. Trips out to the islands was always popular too. I thoroughly enjoyed my visits there - ancient history everywhere. Be prepared for a battle, sorry barter to buy anything though :-). Never spent much time in Tunis as work was down near the Libyan border so i was always in transit. Only other thing I can say is if you drive then be prepared to dodge lorries on your side of the road and sheep driving mobylette's :-) Finally I believe it's still a restricted currency so you need to change money entering and leaving the airport check-in. make sure you keep some dinar back though as they don't take it from you until you enter the boarding lounge. I've seen no end of people trying to scrape enough loose change together to pay it 'cos they've exchanged all there dosh back to punts! Hope that helps a little Sorry meant to add this link from goggle http://etravel.org/places/africa/tunisia/sousse/

    Duck !!

Was trolling the sun site and came across this - That was some strike lucky it wasn't a fish on or he'd have its head in his gob too :-) http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4796133/Hook-line-n-stinger-as-weight-smashes-into-anglers-cheek.html
  11. Of more interest in that article is the graph showing the murder rate per 100k of people in "developed" countries. Uk is 2nd lowest @ 0.1 but only includes Wales & England U.S. @ 3.2 - to me it shows that legal gun ownership in the UK is as safe as ever but is it statistics, lies & damned lies? Any opinions?
  12. Nope i'm sorry to say it closed down a few years ago - pity, as it was 10mins down the road from me and had great layouts. Closest grounds now for us around Aberdeen are Seals Cove on the Southern outskirts of Aberdeen (only open Friday afternoons, and all day Saturday's and Sundays), Dell Glenlivet near Dufftown and Auchterhouse down at Dundee. Can thoroughly recommend all 3 grounds and if you like a challenge the The Dell is the place !! Hope that helps
  13. That'll do nicely for me too Tam :-) And the Dufftown road may be clear of snow by then too :-)
  14. For those of you of an age to remember some sad news. for you youngsters, Wilko was a member of one of the best bands I have ever had the pleasure of seeing live in the mid-70's and later. I last saw him play in Aberdeen last year - still an absolute madman!! By some miracle i Hope he is able to carry on for a long time yet. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-20956351
  15. Good ground & the Christies are a good bunch. They have ball trap, Dtl, skeet (including Olympic skeet) a compaq layout and about 15 stands of sporting targets including a (very!) high tower. Hull cartridges for sale but not cheap and a small shop also. You can shoot plastic or fibre. Everything else is on the website. They are well worth a visit. http://www.auchterhousecountrysports.co.uk/
  16. If you go to the Browning website the stock dimensions like drop at heel etc will be on there - I think you'll find that the Mirooks have more drop (lower on the stock) hence what you instructor said might be right for you. Hopefully Gordon R will answer as he is pretty knowledgable on the complexities. I have a GP sportier and an XTR and they are set up completely differently despite them both being Brownings. Good luck with the search for a gun and take your time with your choice as impulse buying is a common problem of all us shooters :-)
  17. Same, same for me, dislocated shoulder twice egg chasing and was overbowled by my skipper in the Cricket season which led to issues - 2 ops through the years - 2nd one was to tidy up a torn bicep attachment and Cartilage so just a key hole jobbie. No issues with shooting whatsoever. As the guys have said, do the physio, its critical to stabilising the joint after the ops and dont sleep on that side for a while after a few snifters if not it could freeze up on you and then you have an embarrasing conversation with your specialist as to how you happened to ignore his advice Good luck with the op.

Very pretty - weren't those cylinder heads a similar layout to the 380 and 750 "Kettle's" - Ram Air system() or something like that?

They were state of the art in the day - they had disc brakes - that old K4 of mine had a twin leading front shoe

Never had one cos at 6ft 3 and 16 stone even as a 16yr old i looked like an idiot on them - i had an old Bantam trialer to thrash about on the beach and marshes then went straight onto a Honda 250 K4 on my 17th birthday - i loved that bike. I had many after that, from Bonneville's throught to Super Fours but none of them make me smile looking back as much as my old K4 does - i guess because it represented freedom and lunacy to a 17 year old back in the day. It was the same as this beauty - aprt from mine finished up with a Yoshimura high lift cam set and some slightly oversize bores on it - RD250 gobbler until the LC's came about. http://www.classichondamotorcycles.co.uk/bikes/more.asp?bike_ID=1884
  21. Ooh now we're back onto the "are Krieghoff's nice or not debate" :-) if you listen hard enough you can hear the Perazzi brigade sounding the charge and tapping away at a keyboard as I write this :-)
  22. Well as its Friday and a bad day at work i thought i'd enter the fray so to speak . is GD the greatest? - well imo he is in his chosen discipline ranges of his generation - is he better than Cheryl - well yes because you only have to put them on a "scores in majors" comparison and GD will have beat Cheryl in most competitions - high gun is high gun after all and thats not to denegrate her performances as she is the star performer of Ladies shooting. It is always impossible to compare any sportsman across generations as many things change, things that come immediately to mind are; physical conditioning in sports that demand it. Rugby springs to mind immediately as the size and fitness of the guys today bears no relation to the amateurs of 20 or more years ago - does that make greats like Gareth Davies / JPR Williams / Gerald Davies etc any less of a player than say Richie MacCaw ? no, but they cannot be compared to the leviathans of modern Rugby in the physical sense, they just wouldn't be able to compete without modern training methods. Similarly equipment changes records & performance whether it be cars, bikes, clothing etc all of these things have changed personal performances. Would Usain Bolt be running under 10 secs on Cinder tracks - no!! Was and is Ali "the Greatest" possibly but he was well beaten on a number of occassions but what made him great was peoples perceptions and his overall achievements. Similarly, this is all you an do when comparing GD with people such as AJ Smith etc All records get broken in the end and this is a result of all of these things (and human evolution??) Generally any major records get broken and i'm sure somebody, someday will emulate and beat GD's feats, i just dont think it will be in my lifetime. Will they be able to prove they are greater than George - nope 'cos he will be past his best and not able to compete on equal terms, but sometime in the future someone on here when we are all long gobne will be saying that Joe Bloggs is the greatest sporting shot ever bar none !!!!! This why we love sport, it will continue to keeps Forums, Pub banter and armchair enthusiasts like ourselves going for evermore . Oh and to add my tupenneth on the actual question of this post - buy what you like as no gun i've had has improved my scores of it's own fruition - as a £1k gun or a £10k gun makes no difference if an idiot is pulling the trigger.
  23. Yep and if i were them i'd be setting off my car alarm at inopportune moments if i was approached in that manner :yp: - sure thing to get anybody's back-up is to be dictated too ! and yes i have experienced this with a load of goose shooters who, at 4.00am in the morning, thought it was ok to park on my lawn and camp out behind my ditch wall as the "farmer" i was in dispute with over a boundary line said it would be ok! You never know what is going on behind the scenes. The next year they came and saw us with a gift of a pair of geese and guess where they parked themselves for a flight into the fields behind my house Always approach to be as friendly as possible and get them onside by explaiining that your permission giver has requested that you perform a service for them. I've found that braces of birds or some already prepared pigeon breasts are a great way of making "friends"
