Not just a pretty face then?
  4. JDog

    Plant ID.

I haven't done one for a while. I saw this plant this morning.
  5. I did go out. Not many customers.
  6. Rubbish indeed. It's not rugby anymore.
  7. Great grey shrikes are winter visitors to UK. There are a few reports around the country at the moment.
  8. Hull Superfasts 29g no.6. Multi choke gun, I bought it with 1/2 and 1/4. I will replace the 1/4 with another 1/2,
  9. I bought the Classic Doubles on Thursday morning and shot a few pigeons roosting with it on that evening. So far so good. This morning I was standing in the fog at 7:30 wondering if I would get shot or two at flighted pigeons. I was off the line by 100m. My companion was on it. With no wind and not much visibility the pigeons were high, many too high to raise the gun at. However some presented fair shots for us both and between us we shot 34 pigeons and six corvids. I am happy with my purchase.
  10. https://photos.app.goo.gl/yK1xBPYhxQxzDzdm7 I put this in Off Topic but it has been inappropriately moved.
  11. Here is the Classic Doubles purchased this morning. Not a sleeper by any means but a lightly used and well cared for gun. It is partway through a thorough cleaning and oiling.
  12. Impressive man cave London Best. Has your 'understanding wife' ever been in it?
  13. I had a fair collection as a boy. It is what I did, roaming the countryside from dawn to dusk looking for nests. My golden rule was only one egg from a full clutch. It didn't take any rules, regulations or Laws for me to realise what I was doing wasn't quite right and I stopped collecting in my very early teens. This bloke has a mental illness causing the compulsion to collect eggs. I do just wonder if any of the collections he was previously prosecuted for were confiscated from him.
  14. I am going to see another tomorrow which sounds just right. In part exchange I have a Winchester 91. In normal circumstances I would appreciate this gun but it has too much cast for my liking. There wouldn't be a better example.
  15. These fields have had a few pigeons on them. Not many but enough to ensure that I looked every day. A strong wind was necessary as the pigeons were not coming very far. The wind would disperse the sound of the shots. As one picture shows this is a patchy crop, not due to pigeons but due to the wet weather causing part of the crop to rot. It was a slog to get to my hide position. When I got there the usually dry ditch had water in it. Luckily I had wellies on, Barney did not. After two minutes I had two down then a wait before the next one appeared. For a change I was shooting well and I had some long crossers which surprised me. The thought of a long slog back to the car prompted me to pack up after an hour and a half even though pigeons were still coming in. The combination of my kit and twenty seven pigeons has finished me off for the day.
  16. I have been to see a Classic Doubles today. Sadly it didn't fit. The gun is a very fine example and clearly has had little use. Anyone interested should contact the Broadway Gun Room.
  17. Good post Mmp. In the words of Punch of Punch and Judy fame... 'That's the way to do it'.
  18. There are members of this forum who put their negative thoughts and ideas into print who will do more harm to shooting than those who are against it but remain silent.
  19. Naughty boy Scully, you may have just cost me some serious dosh. I am going to see a Classic Doubles next week. I am secretly hoping it doesn't fit.
  20. Walking near home in some parkland I spotted this tree. It is a beauty. The house to the parkland was built in the mid 17th century. I doubt the tree is that old but it has some age about it.
