Look up Cornus Stolonifera flaviramea. Put up some pictures of the older stems.
  5. Eddie Jones dragging another international team to the bottom of the pile.
  6. If Muncher can't get them to decoy then I doubt if anyone can.
  7. I have read Walked Up's posts over the years and I have never seen a hint or arrogance or conceit.
  8. I will not derail the thread. Daz, you can always be relied on to shoot a decent bag if you have pigeons. Good for you.
  9. A kicking game when the backs are so speedy? I donโ€™t think so.
  10. Very good Scully. You have a real talent. If I enquire of the Old Courthouse Gallery what name will the paintings be under? Send a PM if you prefer.
  11. For those really really into birds, there is a Yellow Warbler on Shetland and an Aquatic Warbler in Sussex.
  12. My companion and I thought so even early this morning. Our plan therefore was to tour bean stubbles looking for an opportunity in the week. We found two converging lines. Had it not been so hot we would have been tempted. On our way back we heard the unmistakable sound of a game drive in progress. What satisfaction could the guns possibly get from shooting immature, hot and thirsty partridges in 30 degree heat?
  13. I have a passing interest in quite a few subjects and a detailed knowledge of none. So a gift of a book on butterflies piqued my interest. Butterfly Safari contains some of the most spectacular pictures of all of the UKs butterflies and it is an interesting read.
  14. This is a new permission for me obtained only on Wednesday when I saw pigeons on wheat stubble. It extends to 500 acres in a pigeonny area. My companion picked me up at 12:15, a ten minute drive and we were watching soon after. The line in was obvious but the interesting thing is that very few pigeons landed in the field straight away but circled once or twice before alighting. The wind was odd, from the east and along the length of the hedge we chose to use. One set of decoys was very close in, the other 50m out. We had some really great shooting at long birds flitting about. Not many came into the hole in the pattern We, along with our wives, have been invited to a drinks party this evening so we packed up at 3pm after just less than two hours. We had a market for the birds and within twenty minutes of leaving the field 67 pigeons were in the chiller. This was some of the best shooting we have had for a while. * The forum glitch is preventing me from uploading photos.
  15. Good post OB. I had pigeon last night. I cut each breast into four strips then stir fried quickly. Then I take them out and stir fry mushrooms and peppers with plenty of oil before adding the breasts back into the mix. Place on top of pasta cooked separately. Eat with gusto avoiding pellets.
  16. There are some on this forum who use it as a means of contacting the outside world. I believe I know one of them. There are others who derive a great deal of enjoyment and knowledge from it. The hierarchy of PW should at least offer an explanation as to the difficulties members have experienced in logging on.
  17. Yes. You and I shot the field below the road last year when it was standing wheat.
  18. On one of my favourite fields to shoot in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
  19. Good post Blackpowder. I used to write occasional articles for the Shooting Gazette. My topics were game and pigeon shooting. I found it difficult not to be repetitive and when I was asked to contribute monthly I declined.
  20. It was. A lovely atmosphere in the streets of Twickenham with good banter between supporters of both team. We had an early dinner with New Zealanders and South Africans and sat between more of the same during the game. The match was disjointed. The referee spoiled much of it.
  21. Twickenham for South Africa v New Zealand.
  22. Not everyone has time to recce fields before shooting. If they had they would know what time pigeons are feeding in any numbers. I can't get out of bed to go first light, I always find chores to do in the morning, then lunch of course then leaving to have a look at 1pm. From what I have seen in recent days setting up at 3pm would be as productive as any time.
