In all honesty , I would build a publicly accessible rifle range , and anyone with a fac could practice till their hearts content . I would buy a great deal of ground and employ a farmer to sow crops year round with the sole purpose of attracting pigeons to be shot , by anyone who was willing to help teach youngsters the art of shooting . I would buy a shooting truck just for me , nothing special just functionality sound . I would enrol my children in a private school to get the very best education and good well brought up peers . I would build a house roundabout the most secure gun room money can buy and have a selection of good guns which could be used (under supervision of course) by the youngsters who came to the range or farm. I would then lastly (and I am assuming I have won multimillions) challenge the ludicrous gun laws in court so as to make life for those with fac's and sgc' a little easier .

I thought I had bought a pile of horse manure when I first got my howa , now with my homeloads sorted I'm getting sub inch groups at 290 yards and I like it so much that I bought a Swarovski x5i instead of a better rifle for fox , deer and target

As I said "around" and considering that the .22 is "around" twice the weight of a very very easily blown off target .17 round , it makes sense to me . If I am needing to I can use .22 shorts , .22 subs .22 hp , .22 standard and velocitors or stingers . How accurate do you really have to be with over 100ft/lbs at 100 yards on small vermin ? This is why most fac holders who hunt have at least one .22 in the cabinet

Very true , BUT , I shoot target , fox and hopefully soon deer with the same rifle so the "Jack of all trades " label suits me very well .

Just my tuppence worth mate. .22 lr with cci velocitors will get you around the same ft/lbs as .17hmr . That will get you to extended ranges for the 22 as in 80-130 yards Get the .223 , there is more ammo choice and a better range of head weights and makes if you decide to reload . My .223 will group 1/2-3/4 inch at 200 yards with my pet home load . It grouped 1-1 1/4 with PPU ammunition right from the get go . I have only had my certificate about 18 months and I think that you would be best to start with the above and take it from there , atb Nighteye

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I would be breaking the law if I TOLD my wife where the spare keys are kept , on the other hand if she FOUND them whilst tidying the house I would still be on the right side of the law ? Before anybody jumps on this or me for that matter , my keys are kept with the club keys in a safe to which nobody knows the combination but me !

Tell the feo and if they are not happy then tell them "well if I come home and the cabinet has been broken into but the house is secure we will know where to look for my guns , wont we !" Does anybody else think that the common sense of the FEO'S lately has diminished somewhat ?

Somebody on my Facebook account said that if you had a closed group and nobody complained then how would they know anyway , I would still be apprehensive about buying a gun on Facebook , that is just in my opinion though

Totally agree, air weapon certificate is a waste of police time and resources, even the police are shaking their heads. To think that I can have a car with 2x.22 rimfires .223,.308.38,.22lbp,.44 pistol and two shotguns but I need a certificate for a air rifle beggars belief!

I was 10-10 1/2 months for a grant . Granted I do have a neurological disability, BUT both my referees and my doctor green lighted and whole heartedly supported my application. There were other issues , but , I did speak at length to the FEO for about two hours . But a kick in the **** off a year , should have been quicker than that IMHO .

Honestly , seeing the cutbacks the police are having (such as losing FEO'S ) and waiting 10 months for my department to visit 2 people and phone 2 , for them to then phone me and grant, I don't think forgetting to notify (when he was a certificate holder who already had been cleared fit and proper to possess said class of firearm)really is that big of a deal as long as you explain yourself and say sorry , a little give and take is what is needed

Google "a fathers advice" it's a poem that instils a good many safety points . Go to a good gunshop , and ask questions lots and lots of questions , if they are good they will understand that newbies need advice and will take the time to talk you through the processes of having a shotgun , (buying,selling,notifying the police etc). Just remember that there are no stupid questions and if you don't know , ASK.

Ok here goes the long version , (bear with me). I first met my wife 16 years ago and she was against guns , I eventually managed to get her out with an air rifle and she was kind of ok but it's nothing special . This level of attitude continued and she was definitely against me storing guns in the house . Roll on a few years and I joined a firearms club , (by this time we have two children) after dragging her up numerous times I get her to have a shot with a .22 rimmy , eureka all it took was somebody else to say "you could be better than him" also I got involved with a "have a try airgun range " and a few visits to airgun clubs with the kids , if the kids love it so does mummy. After seeing me teach a lot of kids to shoot at a country fair and watching me take a child with no experience and showing them how to hit reactive targets and the associated enthusiasm , the anti-gun view started to thaw . It did take time but step by step I showed the wife how to shoot , the different types of firearms and how they need to be stored . After seeing me take out half a bedroom wall to fit three cabinets and how I was very very strict about gun safety and handling when teaching our own children she caved . She realised that whether or not she wanted guns in the house I DID . It was my hobby , our children loved it and knew not to tell anybody that dad has guns . I am now in possession of 6 firearms with space on my ticket for another 3 sect 1 and space for two more shotguns , one of which I have been informed needs "to fit me (wife)" , it's not an easy journey . Do not give up , take the first step and get the SGC , get a gun at your parents BUT when you get up to go make a hell of a racket "because you have to leave really early to pick up your gun" . After a while she will soften , maybe not right away but eventually. One day you will read a post similar to yours and think "know that feeling, try this it worked for me " Don't know how old your kids are but if the kids like something usually mummy does too , even just to see their faces light up with excitement. If the ammo was the same make that you usually use then what can be said , there is no time scale in which ammunition from a private transfer has to be entered as far as I can see ?

Would I be right in thinking that if a friend with the same caliber gave you bullets and then signed the ammo on to your ticket from theirs once you got it back then that would be totally legal ?

Tell her you just want the sgc to make "borrowing" a gun a possibility and to buy cartridges , THEN , when she's out put the gun in the safe , every time you go to the safe you are just getting cartridges 😉, might want two safes whilst you are at it , "saved a fortune love!"

I would challenge the law regarding the ban on handguns , semiauto centerfires and the nrwe air weapon certificate in the European court of human rights . Then once I had won I would emigrate

Blair it's chris from the club , as long as you have complied with government regulations (there is a downloadable booklet) then it does not matter what he is comfortable/uncomfortable with . At the end of the day if someone wants our firearms all that is required is the will and a little planning. If he is truly unhappy and the powers that be require you to store them elsewhere then I have a cabinet spare that you can put your guns in whilst you are away .

There is a lady in my firearms club who (I believe) holds the record for turnaround in Scotland , 10 days from start to finish
