  1. Good luck with your 8 bore I'm sure you will have some fun, it's like trying to keep an old vintage car going these days! Agreed but most vintage car owners will have a few spares kicking about, luckily I'm a born hoarder the last itm I bought was when the lead ban first came in and we had a contact for some cheaper than the norm, but with the writing on the wall I bought it whenever I heard of any and had any spare cash so still got a little at the old money. When it's time to buy some more then I may rethink things but got enough to keep me going for a while yet as I don't get out as much as I used to. ps still have a few bismuth eley forest for the twenty I bought at £9-00 a box, in the local gunshop the other day I was told their now £35-00 a box for bismuth and that was 12 bore.
  2. I agree with you the day of the 8 is done and now so is the ten they shoot marginly further than a 3 1/2 twelve but most can't shoot a ten that well, the cases are stupid money. Now the sp10 has stopped production only browing left it will take a while but these are the last glory days of the ten. That's a very opinionated statement , which of course you are entitled to but I'm quite sure a fair few members will disagree including myself. As for the cost of cases being stupid money a little enquiring and shopping around landed me with a tillage bag of 8 bore cases free of charge from a very generous member on this forum, no doubt if you were to buy from the Alan Myers's of this would they no doubt would come out expensive. As for your 3 1/2 inch most people I know have had them got rid and reverted to the good old 10 or 8's, trying to cram a 10 bore load through a 12 bore is a recipe for disaster and the best you'll achieve is a longer shot string.
  3. I wondered if curlew tastes like a big woodcock? That would be awesome Tastes more like a burnt brick if my memory serves me correct! Slightly irrelevant me thinks, at least to the law abiding citizens .
  4. Very well put sir, I too am interested in the answer or reasoning behind this.
  5. At least it'll be warm at the fire I but think on how much more it'll be appreciated when he gets out of all that wet gear .
  6. Make no mistake lead posions ducks. Its true lead has been shot over marshes for long periods and will still be present , in declining amounts as the pellets sink into the mud , but if we had not stopped useing lead there would never be an end to the problem. I have no argument for the above but do feel we've been spoon fed a load of exaggerated carp from the do gooders and everyone else that wants to see shooting decline. As in your earlier post how were they managing to find all these poisoned ducks we were informed about, they must be just luckier than the Danish chap .
  7. Not arguing with your thoughts but feeding will certainly do no harm, and wild ducks can certainly become habituated to an area that is regularly fed, and don't have to have been captive bred or introduced there.
  8. Same here and doesn't start while February when all woods can be covered, making it worthwhile turning out. I don't know any keepers that'd let roost shooters into a wood before the end of the season.
  9. If you are getting good numbers in why feed? To continue getting good numbers hopefully.
  10. Crack on you certainly won't shoot any watching coronation street and hogging the gas fire good luck.
  11. What's your thoughts on night vision then ?. Lamping didn't set off as a pastime or sport but a means to an end you've obviously never been involved with the keepering side of things.
  12. I'd have no qualms about carrying my shotguns or firearms out of their slips if the situation you've described is accurate. I for one don't think we should have to hide what we're doing when going about a perfectly legal pastime hobby or whatever you'd like to call it.
  13. As has been said if its tightly bored the cork wads could cause you the same problems as the over powder cards or plas wads. Good advice to get it measured and get punches to suit.
  14. I wasn't saying you had to or the right or wrongs of doing so, just stating the usual practice in South Yorkshire or at least in my own experience. Dead easy to stock up on ammo before handing it in and renewals aren't usually that long winded so no problems.
  15. It's always been common practice here to send in your existing certificates along with renewal application forms, I believe you used to get something stating the receipt for the renewal costs was proof of having a cert but can't remember if I got one last time I renewed .
  16. I would keep it down to a 21/4 oz load as well to keep the pressures low. Been discussing this with a mate on the wildfowling forum his brother has had one for years and never put anything bigger than 21/4 oz through it.
  17. Something to buy for the man who has everything , cos I bet he hasn't got one of them.
  18. Have spoke with the North Yorks chaps a couple of times when we did the Yorkshire Gamefairs they were at the opposite end of the BASC tent, found them to be very helpful and clued up, but that is some exceptional turnaround for any force.
  19. poachers don't use a lamp for shooting pheasants, full moon with white cloud with a good wind That reads like the voice of experience, a sure sign of a misspent youth .
  20. Well done and thanks for the PM .
  21. I'll make one if possible, already know a few attending be nice to put faces to other names even if I'm unable to shoot.
  22. First prize in the tulip comp category maybe .
  23. Not me but I remember a tale about a "sporting agent" up here who was feeding a field and was shooting it heavily, the geese were picking up the shot as they grazed and many were found between there and the estuary in poor condition. Other than that, no. I can't see that being relevant as the thing we're after is the ingestion absorption of the lead which I'm led to believe happens over a long period of time. Possibly a case of our European cousins being a little over zealous with their three shots and pricking a few.
  24. It'd be a different scenario if you have deer on the ground, poaching in this area is on the up at the moment for the xmas rush.
  25. Tinternet should dig some up for you, I think I've got some data for vectan A1, not absolutely sure for 28 but I've used it for 20 if you require it pm me and I'll dig it out for you.
