  1. after reading the sporting gun article a couple of months ago I decided to have a go today. I put out a dead pigeon with white feathers scattered around it. I then put a jackdaw I had shot earlier on a lander about 1m from pigeon. I sat right in the hedge, which was very uncomfortable as I was sat in a boggy ditch, but at least I was well camoflauged. Two crows came flying around chattering to jakky,- they wouldnt come down but they were in range, bang - bang and both down. I am sure that if I had, had a call they would have come down to feast- my guess is they were checking the bird out too see if it was a decoy. tody
  2. Happy 18th mate!, you can now drink legally! Hope you have a good birthday, tody
  3. Ye same one, I emailed the boss and he emailed back saying that it would have been bumped in the post and the carbon pole had got stuck in the welded spike at the bottom. Between two of us and with the help of pliers we managed to pull the pole out. cheers, tody
  4. Hiya, Just recieved a new lander and floater from Vale. Lander looks pretty good- nice and sturdy. But the floater will not extend!! Tried pliers and everything on it but the pole just wont budge. Anybody been in a similar situation? If so, how did you sort it? Cheers, tody
  5. Just goes to show- you're not going to decoy pigeons when theyre not hungry! tody
  6. I once read that in the early 1900's when grouse was a huge delicacy the top London hotel and restuarant owners bought pigeons and crows for a good price and pretended they were grouse- the diners either didnt realise or they were to polite to say anything! tody
  7. Never seen a rock dove- think they live close to the coast. Bloody hundreds of stock doves around here though! They are annoying because they look like woodies and when theyre coming in you get all excited, and then you realise- DAM tody
  8. Thanks for the replies. Very useful. Browning- You are correct, you need a seperate cabinet for your rifle. My dad has two cabinets. 1 has his .22 rimmy and the other has our shotguns . The keys need to be a seperate place and I am sure you know already but for those that dont, you need a seperate lockable rifle ammo box. (most are attached to a rifle cabinet) thanks again everyone, tody

Hi medic, Around skeggy I think-( please let me know if im wrong) you can get membership with NPPC -national pigeon pest control. You pay a fee each year and you get access to hundreds of fields in N. lincs up to and including some of yorkshire. For more info contact John Shooter on 08707572246. tody
  10. Good choice not to shoot it mate- its illegal to shoot either species. I never shoot unless I see the woodies white wing bar, and if its a feral I dont bother wasting a cartridge on it tody
  11. There were a couple of decoyers shooting over spring drilled beans today in N. Lincolnshire, Upton, Long Lane. Bit of a stab in the dark but was it any of you guys? tody
  12. Thanks guys, yes, very blunt Sniper but valid points. firstly about the shooting bit, When we shoot together we both use air rifles- farmer and fathers rule. He has come on clay pigeon shooting trips with me and my dad for quite a while. At the club he uses their spare baikal. He is the same age as me. I think the reason for keeping it at my house is so he didnt have to fork out money for a cabinet, also none of his family shoots and his dad didnt want a large drilled in cabinet in the house. Before I talked to my dad and other organisations ( I was going to contact BASC and county police firearms dept.) I wanted to ask you guys about your thoughts and opinions on the matter. - After your replies I wasnt going to say "ye lets do it" and get on with it, I just wanted a wider picture. His parents know about the application; after all they need to sign for the certificate and be there while he has his interview. But I am not sure they know much about shotguns. - Obviously my friend should explain to them, and maybe it would be a good idea for his dad to come clay shooting with my father and me- but that is something for him to decide. Thats all I can think of to say at this time, tody
  13. Hi guys, One of my mates has started coming shooting with me and he is now at the stage of wanting to buy a shotgun. For some reason ( cant remember what it was  ) he would like to keep it in my safe, I am happy to let him but I would like to know if this is legal. He will only be shooting when I do, but it would mean he would have access to my guns. My feelings is that its not legal, I have heard that you can keep them at the local police station for a small fee- is this true? any comments would be appreciated cheers, tody
  14. Hi FM, I got a no.4 for my 15th birthday and have found it fantastic. They fit well and are very reliable. £600 is an average price for a 2nd hand no.4 BUY IT  - You wont be dissapointed The best site for any spanish gun info, will give you the exact date of when your AYA was manufactured (found out mine was made in 1967) : http://www.spanishguns.com/Manufacturers.html Tody
  15. Just a quick question- How the hell are you going to get a rat in a pillow case!! and if u did, how would you tie it up with the rat AND a dog running round trying to murder each other!! On a serious note: Take the dog along to the ratting- dont make it do anything if it doesnt want to. Chances are it will have a field day!! I have got a cross breed russel (with something!! ) and she has been ratting since she was a pup- shes now 10 and still loves every minute of it. tody
  16. I was in the same situation as you lot on Sunday. I set up and walked the birds off at 0900hrs and had nothing from then on.- They had alread filled themselves and were flying lazily around looking for a tree to sit and digest in. If this happens I aways pack away and go and sit under a nearby tree that is a regular sitty tree. On Sunday I shot 9 pigeons in 1/2 hour just from standing below a common sitty tree. tody

Hi mate, Just give it a good oil with a cloth once in a while and when it gets damp. No need to clean the barrel like a shotgun because you have nothing coming off the pellet tody
  19. I dont want a close season: I dont shoot enough pigeons to even create a substantial dent in the local population They breed throughout so many months the closed season would be too long! March, april, may, june, july, august, september and sometimes october are the months they breed in. tody
  20. Land is precious to all shooters This could help to get you started: http://www.pigeonwatch.co.uk/land.htm tody
  21. that is if ur still alive
  22. Hiya, My dad owns a 12 b o/u franchi. It shoots and fits well.- They are deffinelty good quality guns. tody
  23. Hi dog, Land is precious to the average shooting person! How about joining a club where you can get pigeon shooting on selected fields for a fee? I think there are two clubs around your area: PRWS and NPPC (national pigeon pest control). PRWS have a website (guess you'll have to use a search engine to find it.) NPPC dont have a website, but you can contact the organizer (John Shooter) on: 08707572246. Are you being serious about shooting pigeons with a rimmy Never heard of it before. I guess if your allowed then it could be ok, althought it is a lot more sporting and exciting to bring the pigeons closer and shoot them with a shotgun, while they are still in flight. I guess, seeing as you have your section 1 and you have 500 acres land then you know all the nessercary precautions; but if you are going to shoot them with your rifle. Just make sure you are not shooting them out of trees/ hedges etc etc and you are only shooting them in areas you know are safe! tody
  24. Why dont you pay for a days shooting with a professional shooting guide? It may cost a lot but its deffinetley value for money. Most shooters on this forum cant spare much time due to full time occupations, making shooting time more precious to them. Reds advice is good.- clay shooting will deffinetly help you, and if you become a regular at your local ground then you may get an invitation for a days shooting. hope this helps, tody
  25. Crookie Most home made rotarys are made from mild steel. If using this metal then I would say your arm diameter needs to be about 10mm tody
