    Cider

Hi guys, This year I am having a go at producing cider. I was wondering if any of you know which is better to ferment cider in: demijohn, or plastic fermenter? Any reply appreciated, tody
  2. works well if you are hidden and there are plenty of magpies about. Also works with the crows and jackdaws. give it a go tody

  7. I have never used an incubator, although I often use broody chickens to raise pheseants, chickens and ducks. In my opinion broody chickens are far more superior than incubators for small scale production. Broody chickens will do everything- turn eggs, show the chicks food etc, teach them the way of life. Although I have never used an incubator I expect the temperature needed is about 35-37 degrees celcius because this is a hens body temperature. hope this helps, tody

  14. Digger, I dont think Martin was refering to your post as it was not about a ridiculous dangerous mistake caused by bad gun safety. In fact it was rather funny - I will deffinitly stay clear of badgers from now on  Not sure this thread is very good for our sport- a bit more bait for anti gun... cheers, Tody
  15. Plenty here in N. Lincolnshire. I have never seen so many. - I live near plenty of woods and in a flat well drained arable area. In the winter the local wood had massive flocks and now the flocks have thinned but there are still plenty of pigeons about. tody
  16. Ant, You probably missed the rabbit.- It would have lay down to keep hidden from you. After it had thought the danger had passed it carried on eating. - Hares often sit tight anyway. Reloader, Maybe you had only knocked it Unconscious. tody

  19. Just goes to show you that this is the usual type of anti- hasnt got a clue and very ignorant. Well done William, you kinda turned this anti's opinoun around- some how we need to just give everybody that same messeage and maybe they would open their minds slighlty. tody
  20. sounds too good to be true! Is there anyway we can ship them to you? tody
  21. Use fireworks I am not sure if its strictly legal but that is what I use. Stick a good old roman candle down the hole. Cover it with a breeze block and stand on the breeze block. If you have put the firework down far enough you will hear a satisfying deep hollow sound. DUM DUM DUM as the rocket goes off. Coloured smoke will seep out around the area, and hopefully if all has gone successfully the odd rat or two will wonder out of the a hole in a daze- slow enough to quickly knock it off with a drainpipe If you have a terrier at hand use it to cover any quick escaping rats. tody
  22. Black heads CANT be shot. Black backed gulls CAN be shot on an open lisence issued by DEFRA. They will give you a lisence if you have a specific problem with gulls, your problem with sheep will be enough for them to grant you a license for sure. I shoot Black backed when I go shooting each year in Scotland. Next to where my father and I shoot is a land fill site- Fantastic Fun- gulls and crows everywhere As for your question about how much to charge- do it for free! You will be sure to get some advantages from helping the landowner. And also you are getting good sport. If their is somebody near you that is finding it hard to get land to shoot over and they ask the landowner the landowner will probably replace you because the new person is not asking to be payed. Just a thought tody
  23. ye please. any recepies would be great. tody
  24. Talking to my grandma yestereday and she told me that one of her friends had recently seen 36 badgers in his garden- at the same time! I have never had any problem with badgers but we have with foxes. We got rid of the foxes by peeing round the garden!! Maybe this would work with badgers- just pee around the perimiter- (if its in town then its probably best to do it at night ) try it- it may work. tody
