  1. They may have ment 7hrs of shooting, not including the time that they had spent on "time out" I believe them, why would they feel that they needed to lie?- sporting gun doesnt just give the prices to those with the largest bags. BUT... They must have taken at least a thousand cartridges!!! THATS A HUGE AMOUNT TO CARRY- plus with all the pigeons and equipment- they would have needed a bloody HGV tody
  2. I support all the country sports! If it ALL gets banned then im outta here- ******* off to the states tody
  3. nice 1, this ones mine: http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?clie...=700&height=410 My shooting fields are the ones direclty behind it and to the left, going right back to the end of the wood to the left. tody
  4. sniper, never rilly thought about them lying up! I deffinetly saw 1 of them feeding, and a few were moving around a bit. Maybe they were just lying up but at the same time picking at the bugs. tody
  5. I was on the way home when i saw a load of pigeons feeding on winter cereal. I was amazed i have never seen them eating this stuff- there was perhaps 50 birds on it. I dont understand- i didnt think they ate the shoots at this time of year; i live in lincolnshire so its not as if there was no rape about! Can any1 tell me why they were eating on this field?- i cant think of any explaination for it except maybe they have been scared off by the scarers on the rape, but there cant be a scarer on every field tody
  6. sort of the same type of thing, except a bit more extreme : http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,9105...2985986,00.html tody
  7. aahhhh, the good old beer googles. Nice 1 yp, tody
  8. Pigeon calls are good in spring and summer when the birds are pairing up. Use a lofter in a tree for the best effect, and call when a pigeon is close by. In summer they are great fun to use because the birds are looking for a lone tree to come and roost in- you can be up till 2100hrs shootin um if its a nice warm day! hope it helps, tody
  9. Yes, If you put them in a make shift nest or at the bottom of a hedge row they work well. Cracked chinken eggs also work well. tody
  10. so what was the total bag?- was there much activity? tody
  11. wot ever you do, dont go to the recruitment office saying you want to go into the sas!! They will turn you down immediatly, thinking you just want to get in becuase you have a big ego. - I know myself becuase i hav had trouble explaining that i want to go in to the para's for the life, not for the berret!! Im not just saying cadets is only good if you want to go as an officer, it will open your eyes to what army life is like!- not just the shooting and beer with your m8s, but the ******** involved aswell. (Im not trying to discourage you by the way ) tody
  12. hi BD, if you cant get in for a while due to restrictions how about joining a cadet force? You will make friends easily as they are all into what you want to do and you will find out what army life is like. You will have a better chance of getting in if your CV has loads of armyish things on it. In the cadets you can get promoted to the non comissioned ranks. (such as cpl, sgt) If you do get promoted in the cadets you will have a good chance of becoming a junior leader when you join your local battalion. I have been going to air cadets (ATC) for 3 years and i love it! I am a sergeant therefore get many privilges. Even though it is air cadets we do loads of field craft, shooting and best of all- Night exercises! I am planning on joining the Parachute regiment as an officer becuase I got good enough GCSEs and am doing a levels at the moment. If you join cadets you can get BTECs which are VERY good qualifications (i think they r higher than GCSES but lower than A levels). An air cadet got into a senior mangment coarse because he had 1 BTEC. The interviewer asked him what GCSEs he had got and the boy sed none but showed him his BTEC award- they signed him onto the course straight away. I am starting a BTEC award at cadets on 'aviation engineering' it sounds very posh and proper but all it is the overall amount of exams that we have to take anyway!! hope that helps, tody
  13. Hi WB, I always use lures that either have a ball bearing inside them or a feather on the end of the spinner. The ball bearing provides vibrations, and therefore brings the pike out to see what it is he is missing out on. The feather is useful because it acts as a tail. The pike will bite on the tail to try and bring the spinner towards its mouth. I find a red feather works well coz it is highly visible and it represents the roach (a common prey). As for dead baiting, use something very smelly, such as rotting roach or mackrel. I have found liver works well because the juices spread out through the water, attracting the pike. It may seem a bit of a muddle- my heads still bangin from last nite Hope it helps tho Tody
  14. We know thats been the counrtyside alliances argument for years. tody
  15. I keep everything simple! I use 10 shell deeks, 2 full deeks and a floater. I always use a conventional arrow head/horse shoe formation as the pigeons dont need to worry about flying into the feeding pigeons. hope it helps. Tody

  19. Iv always thought electronic calls in were britian illegal. - am i wrong? tody
  20. You cant beat DPM! Fits in with every background! Not much point going for the more expensive stuff because your quarry will see movemet and hear ur sounds more than the pattern of ur camo. tody
  21. No pigeon calls will work at this time of year. - The rooks and magpies can be brought in by calls tho. Shoot the pigeons when they come into roost. This will be between 1430hrs -1500hrs. u will get sum good sport till bout 1730hrs. 30g 6's r a good load. I sumtimes use 28g 7.5s aswell. Tody
  22. Bloody hell how many did you shoot? -Looks like you had a good time Tody
  23. bd, Wot type of net and shood i put it over the holes? Iv got my dog and a couple of my m8s ferrets at hand! Is this a good idea? - will the dog get chopped up by the ferrets or will the ferrets get mistaken as rats by the dog? Thanx for the replies fellas Tody
