  1. Ok, so after reading all your helpful comments and taking advice on board, I've found a nice Remington......It's just gonna take a while as FAC officer has asked I go out and get some experience with other FAC holders first....makes sense...so I have two friends that are goign to, but are busy at mo, so would any of you be willing to take me out and give me a few weeks experience with a letter stating that to give to FEO?? In the meantime for plinking rabbits, I have brought an air arms S410 with a Scope package (second Hand as I'll trade it in when I get my FAC), for £550. Looks a mean bit of kit and I can transfer the scope to rifle when I get it!! Went out on to my permission yeterday and took a rabbit, a crow and 4 pigeons, alas. all with my A300, but A good count for anewbie for 3 houirs work I felt........ ATB Lloydi
  2. Thanks lads....trip to lovalls coming on I feel...... Cyrus, yes cf was for foxes, I looked it up on internet and t said .22rf for rabbits max. Foxes etc then cf.......when I get established maybe you'd like to join me for a day Cyrus?!?
  3. Hi Lucky, That's why I'm asking what you'd recommend for vermin and ground game, as I was assuming and need a nudge in the right direction!! Yes, it's the owner and yes he has given permission for me to use his land to gain FAC cert.......
  4. I've just had the best result possible. Sat on the train on a boring trip back out the city to home in Oxfordshire last Thursday, and overheard the woman sat opposite me talking to her son who had a minor prang in his car. I had a friend who is a panel beater, so gave her my business card and said give me a call if it wasn't too bad and I'd give her the contact details. Cut a long story short, she phoned me today, Tuesday, got chatting and turns out she works on a farm.....bingo.......just secured 500 acres iof rabbit/hare/crows and general vermin shooting......result!! Question for you experienced shooters, I have SGC and shoot beretta 682 and beretta A300....but what calibre should I go for on FAC? I was thinking .22 centre fire and 30 06?? Thanks
  5. When I started out, I used to shoot the singles aswell......That's how you get better.....The obnoxious sanctomonious morons sporting their diatribe behind your back are clearly quite spinless!! There were undoubteley numerous other stands they could have gone to and come back to shoot your stand once you'd finished!! I always go early to my ground to shoot to avoid the clash, but in the event there are others infront of me, I just continue to the next satnd and come back.....I wouldn't loose any sleep over it if I were you....!!
  6. Hi m4drx... I'm just up the road from you in Oxford....would love to join up with you sometime, or meet you at my clay ground in Enstone.........Still ,lookign for shooting prmission, but hopefully it will come soon!!
  7. So EHB...understanding your quotes and philosophy, and operatring under your sanctomonious guidleines, does it mean that all woman suffering PMT etc should not have any access to knives and they have been known to stab men to death over trivial arguments and state PMT as an acceptable reason!!
  8. I was sold, and have been told from several fellow old experienced shooters, trade secret is good....rub a small bit in with clean cloth, buff afterwards...comes up good.....Used it twice so far and I must admit the stocks on all three of my Berettas are lookijg good with this on.....
  9. I bought mine from new....and yes...It jammed from new...every 3rd or so loading it would jam....Only took it out three times, quickly traded it for Beretta A300 Outlander...best trade I've ever made, never a problem since!! Save the extra cash, the Escort was a tad under £400, the Outlander £800 both new......!!
  10. Hey Daz, great shooting....what gun you using there?
  11. Great Advice, did exactly that with my old cabinet, nicked the stock with the lip that is....wish I'd have seen theis then, gotta send it away now and have the stock refurbed.....Rob.22tactical, definitely line that lip!!
  12. I just bought a pair of Dubarry Wexfords...yes expensive, but they are so comfortable it feels like I'm wearing slippers. I've given them some stick over the last month or two and they're still like new...yes, early days yet, but I think they'll last...and yes I have big legs and calfs and they do up a treat.......
  13. 682 Golden E suited me to a "T"....was getting great hits with it....Picked it up S/H £1,500......
  14. Oh I have a Masters in stupidity and ineptness, and as for coherent sen.......forggot what I was saying now.....lol.......Oh well, if ever you feel the need for help or show an idiot the ropes, you know where I am....
  15. Hey J Dog, fancy taking a newbie under your wing and out for a couple of hours pigeon shooting? I live in Brize Norton and can't get any permission, because I'm new etc etc. I'm starting to get to know the locals, but if I had a bit of experience I may get a bit further....I'll bring the sarnies and buy ya a pint after??...
  16. Hey Flashgun...I've just done exactly that.....Well, I actually kept my 682 30" and bought the 692 32" aswell...It's amsing, fits a dream, very similar weight to 682, nice to handle and fits like a glove...I tried the DT11 aswell, yuk, very chunky, but I can't recommend the 692 enough..love it, and I suspect I'll be keeping both in my cabinet for a long time to come!! I've only been shooting 5 months now, and I Tues I hit 75% Weds 75% and Thurs 68%, so well pleased with it!!
  17. Wheres the video section, I can't find it and I'm dying to see Stevo blast away with hos new A400??
  18. Hi....I started about 5 months ago now.....My friend took me into the shop and laid out 4 guns, 3 new and 1 s/h....he didn't tell me which was which, after I had picked them all up and dry mounted them, I went straight back to option 3...it was the s/h Beretta 682 Golden E 30" barrels...The feel and fit was amasing, I could just tell straight away it was the gun for me....All the reviews I have read say the 682 is outstanding, and the instructor I use also says it's one of the best starter guns....They were about £2,750 new, I picked mine up for £1,500.00 in excellent condition... so in answer to your question, I would: 1) Recommend the Beretta 682 Golden E in answer to your initial question BUT 2) Like everybody above have said, go to the shop first and feel and try before you buy if you can...... My 682 is still in my cabinet, but I have just purchased a new 692 32" barrels and love that equally
  19. YOu did better than me mate, I ended up bunking off work and driving 80 miles to pick mine up from Avalon, they offered to courier it up.....Noooooooooo way was I wating any longer than neccessary...lol....Well done, enjoy......
  20. I was the same as you and completely new to the sport. Luckily for me my neighbour was a 27 year vet and was helping me get into it. He met me at the gunshop, he got there first, and laid out four random guns 3 brand new and one s/h.....The s/h gun was thrid one down but you couldn't tell it was used, it was in such good condition. Like you, I had intentions of a brand new gun didn't want to consider s/h........I dry mounted all four guns, but the instant I picked up the s/h gun, it felt and fitted like a glove, the others didn't feel any where as near as comfortable. I went with the second hand gun. Yes, it was a Beretta 682 Golden E, but I got it for £1,500.....So like like the others have all said, go try first and if you have to save a little extra, it's well worth doing......Sorry, that's my limited experience and I sit waiting to be lambasted by the more experienced on here...
  21. Daz, Waht do you mean by clean your stocks properly? I only ask as I only clean the barrels and action with a wipe over and oil, and just use a dry cloth to wipe over the forend and stock. Is there a better way of cleaning the stock as I'd like to do that too to keep my guns tip top.....
  22. I was shooting a Beretta 682 Golden E (Still am actually) which is 30" and have to agree with Simon, it's an amazing gun. However, I have now just brought the new Beretta 692 with 32" barrells and this also handles like a dream. I'm not persoanally struggling with the difference and shoot both just aswell, so for me there is no difference. But like the guys above say, if you can try before you buy and see what suits and fits most comfortably, then do that. I shot the new DT11 32" and didn't like it all, I personally (not speakign for anybopdy else or giving opinion), think it's more about gun fit and feel than length of the barrells for me.
  23. Hey guys, I've shot Ian Colleys, like said above, very good smart immaculate ground but very unfriendly staff and you are made to feel a walking credit card. I shoot Oxford Shooting School at Enstone on the airfiled, this is an excellent venue and I go every week. The advantage of both Ian Colletys and Oxford Shooting School is if you're by yourself, you can set a delay on the machine to get yourself set up for the clay. Cotswold clay club Brize Norton is great, only open Sunday Morning though, and Farmington, just along the A40, turn left at the Jail roundabout towards Boughton on the Water, again a great club but only open Sunday morning. I shoot both the only down side is they get very busy, you can wait quite a while on the stands and aslo no delay on the firing of the clay, so you need to try and get with a group. I'd be happy to meet up witjh you.
  24. Good luck Nighteye. let us know how you get on....
  25. Yea, I missed the clue in the title, "Timber Framed" and assumed Brick and Block....More attention to detail.......But I was at work at bthe time sneaking a crafty look on here in my defence..lol....
