  1. Got some hunters about 5 years ago, not knowing any better... Still going strong though
  2. Jordan Peterson's lectures on the rise of totalitarian political correctness really opened my eyes to what's going on. People go along with anything that is 'PC sensitive' because they don't want to be alienated by their peers, no one ever raises their hand to say they don't agree with new politically correct ideology for this reason, people assume that they're at fault for not believing it's correct and will feign believing in order to be accepted and so the circle continues. Under this paradigm, social justice warriors have been able to dictate how people must address them, how they must be described, what must be catered for and what they're entitled to etc. "You must call me this" "You must provide this for me" "You CANNOT do this" These are great risks to freedom and the freedom of speech.
  3. I have both... I've actually wondered if I were to ever have an accident could both say "claim on the other insurance" and no one would pay, but that's a thought for another day... I'd say if you shoot vermin/game then BASC is your best bet as they are also lobbying for your rights to continue enjoying your sport in the field. If you're target only, then sure go NRA.
  4. I'm looking for any kind of shooting around the South East (willing to drive pretty far as getting desperate ), vermin or game. Currently only got SGC, but preparing to apply for FAC. Found it really hard finding anywhere/anyone to shoot with since moving away from my old permission. Am insured and 28 yo. Cheers,
  5. Hmm interesting. Bit confused why so many guys swear by bolts then, who wouldn't want instant follow up shots available?
  6. Are any semis accurate enough to be used on bunnies? Read good things about the CZ512 but the overwhelming consensus seems to be stick to bolt??
  7. Don't see why wadding occluding the barrel would have hugely different physics to a bullet doing so.
  8. The longer a projectile is in the barrel under pressure the higher the velocity of said projectile; this is obviously subject to diminishing returns, so between say 30 and 32 inches, sure there may be a tiny difference, but make those differences larger and it will become much more noticeable. Check out this guy's masters paper below. He chopped 2 inches off his Mosin Nagant and did several chronos at each length. http://honors.usf.edu/documents/thesis/u82488180.pdf tl;dr: Graph below
  9. I'm guessing this is down to different barrel lengths. Longer barrel = higher velocity. The velocity out of the box will be a standardised reading from a particular barrel length. I'd bet by bottom dollar that if you chrono them out of the barrel that one is coming out at a higher vel.
  10. Evening chaps, I live in Surrey but am often around Hampshire, Berkshire, Sussex and even Dorset. I currently just have an SGC, but will be looking to get an FAC soon as I have a several hundred acre farmland permission in Hampshire coming up in Spring. I'm 28 and have been shooting for almost 20 years. In the first instance I am looking for some free or paid shooting days between now and spring; decoying, roost, rough shooting etc - pretty open to anything! I am also looking for someone else with a permission to do a share/buddy up with, preferably around Surrey if possible, but don't mind travelling. Someone with an FAC who doesn't mind doing a bit of mentoring would be ideal but someone with an SGC and permission would be great too, in return I have a very large permission in Hampshire on which to do decoying and perhaps centre-fire stuff (my friend/landowner allowing) eventually. Reply or hit me with a PM Cheers.
  11. Thanks for the advice! Good to know I don't need to splash out on top to toe tweed and look a plonker... I already have the rest of it, just after the jacket still, any recommendations?
  12. Hi guys, I'm picking up a couple of driven days in Jan and have just been shopping around for some clobber. I've never done a formal driven day so don't own tweeds or anything, and I'm just pretty shocked at how expensive the brand name stuff is... £500 for a waterproof tweed jacket etc. After having a look around I found some really cheap stuff on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Country-Waterproof-Breathable-Shooting-Outerwear/dp/B00GICASSS/ref=pd_sbs_193_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=51sm37sXjsL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL200_SR148%2C200_&refRID=1GAQRKFR48RT63HDSA7E and, some slightly more expensive stuff: http://www.bobparratt.co.uk/shooting-coat-c2x12966879 I'm really no expert or anything, is this stuff going to be obviously poorer quality than if you were to buy some Musto for instance (silly question)? What I'm really asking is, does anyone have any recommendations on some reasonably priced jackets in the £100-£200 range and matching breeks in the <£100 region. What do you guys wear for driven? Any other help and advice would be most appreciated. Cheers.
  13. And here I was looking down my nose at Russia for their backward beliefs, thinking "How third world of them..." yet my own backyard was full of homophobes all along. It's funny how the people most vocal about their anti-gay beliefs quite frequently end up coming out later in life... (Frank Maloney being sacked in 2004 for anti-LGBT remarks and yet now lives as a woman springs to mind). To reference the 'Almost politically correct redneck': http://images-cdn.9gag.com/photo/av0BobX_700b.jpg If it ain't hurting anyone, live and let live I say.
  14. In a futile attempt to learn more about the world I watch a "TED" talk every lunch break. There was a pro-GM talk about 2 weeks ago, thought I'd drop a link to it: http://www.ted.com/talks/pamela_ronald_the_case_for_engineering_our_food
  15. Interesting stuff! I'm just imagining an explosive varmint round now
  16. I've looked everywhere for a simple answer to this to no avail, so hoping some knowledgable PW'er can shed some light. I'm doing a whole day of varied pest control this week and wanted to pack something on the off chance of fox, I have some 70mm Victory Mini Magnum 40g No.3 in my assorted bag of cartridges, which would be a decent one to use I'm guessing. It says "For magnum tested guns" on the side of them. The gun I'm using is 1370 bar, 70mm O/U. Basically I just wanted to make sure this was safe to use, I gathered from the BASC website that magnum tested was 1200bar+ but the wording was vague so wasn't 100% sure. Any advice would be great. Cheers.
  17. I know it's not Japanese, but we ended up going with a 2006 Hyundai Tucson, some good reviews here and elsewhere. Only 45k miles on the clock, perfect condition for under £3.5k... Couldn't say no. Thanks for all the help guys.
  18. Indeed, this is why we haven't made the leap yet. I've always assumed we would have to wait until I could afford to support her not working, or live in central London so could visit the dog at lunch or work from home etc... Bit of a shame, I've wanted a dog for over 20 years, but it would have to be a happy life for the dog for me to make that decision.
  19. Wow... At first (and second) glance I thought that was a b&w photo, excellent stuff.
  20. To pose a bit of a newbie question... Do people keep their fowling dogs kenneled or in house? I currently don't have a dog (or been wildfowling yet) as both my partner and I work long hours (out of the house for 12 hours a day) and I'm worried about the dog becoming anxious and chewing the house up on its own, but would love to make arrangements for one in future. (sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but didn't want to start a new topic for what I assume is a quick question)
  21. So they've rejected your application? There must be something they don't like as you don't have to show a need for a shotgun as such, I don't even think I was asked what I wanted one for in my interview.
  22. If it helps, my process from application to getting the certificate through the post was 7 months! Granted, most of my delays were caused by having a GP in the Thames Valley and applying for my license in Hampshire, so neither was aware of the others process. But I'd still say 4-6 months is reasonable.
