A bumper crop of Walnuts - now I'm green with envy. Only one tree I know of locally and it's a magnet for tree rats - too near to kids play area to shoot and the situation with the squizzers is so bad that the owner has cut back any saplings around the base and put an upside down plastic dustbin lid around the trunk to stop them getting into the tree - not much help cos they still somehow manage to clear the tree of it's nuts. Not long now till I get started - the landowners now have 6k acres so there must be some of the little pests lurking around .

Strangely enough i only know of one walnut tree and its also by a kids play area, sounds like a trip out to see if there are nuts or squirrels on the tree.

This is a full size hard case ,46 inch length that will take a scoped, moderated rifle in the back of my Volvo v70 d5 auto, plenty of room in the boot.

cheers mate, how does it drive? Reading reviews there saying the space in back seats is actually a bit tight? I do like the idea of being big and obvious on the road so everyone can see me ?

Yep, what is that all about ?!
Ive seen some things in my time, but one that refuses to leave my mind, is a traveller 'gentleman' walking across a yard they had taken over near me, he dropped his trousers, defecated , and pulled them back up in the space of about 2 seconds, barely broke his stride !!
Broad daylight, full view of everyone, smack bang in the middle of the yard full of trailers, WHY ?

because they couldn't care less, know they will move on when it suits and are taking a dump literally on our way of living.

My dear old dad, went down the pits during the war years, I think Durham way, he used to lodge there and come back when he could, he was what was known has a Bevin's boy, and did his training in Kent first, worked has a hewer, still got his paperwork, said at times he used to work in 18 inch coal seams.

And I've thought some factories I've worked in were grim, don't know I'm born.

oh.....so now you can get the point......" That's a good point. It seems that a proportion of the population opted out because they did not like the presumption...."

You are being forced to do something - to proactively defend your right NOT to have your consent presumed.

It staggers me that some people don't understand the principle at stake here.  Lots of self righteous comments along the lines of 'hope you don't find yourself in the queue for one'. How easily you give your freedoms away for a 'right-on' cause.

How many people don't donate blood?? But if your in an accident and need an operation your going to expect the NHS to have blood stocks in order to save your life.

obviously there will be room for error and improvement but its just as easy for someone to opt out as it is for those who had a donor card.

How would people feel if the NHS said sorry your an adult we can't give you treatment because you haven't donated blood or agreed to be a donor??

  6. my first pcp was my rapid, but it would be far too heavy for your misses , I'd say bsa ultra, you should be able to pick up a decent rifle and scope second hand easily enough.

I am currently evaluating, when I have the time, a SMK Victory PR900W. Cost out of the box £200.00. Add the filling adaptor £12.50 posted off of Evil Bay and you are ready to go. Comes equipped with iron sight and a multi shot magazine. Lots of stuff on You tube. First filling to 190 bar was producing 11.54 ft/lbs with 177 pellets (JCB Exact) It may not be to everyones taste but it is the lightest pcp rifle I have come across, and am hoping with a little fettling it can be recommended for the new young shooters in the air gun club I run. Perfect size for the lady wife and not to heavy. I have purchased to go with it, a cheap Chinese 4-9x40 illuminated scope (£18.00) and a set of low mounts from Ramsbottoms (about £3.00 posted).  You may be better off with the .22 as it will give a bigger shot count over the .177 as the on board air reservoir is only 1 liter.

I have removed the plastic insert in the barrel weight, it does moderate the sound but I am not sure at this point it wasnt allowing the pellets to clip it, causing accuracy problems along with a rough and ready muzzle crown, which I have since remade.

I am going to revisit the range again this evening, so may have a bit more to report tomorrow.

At these prices I thought it worth a dabble!

I would be wary of a scope that cheap, i realise your putting it on a pcp but scope and mounts that cheap sound fishy.

Have you had a look at the Volvo V60? Yes it’s essentially a Mondeo underneath ( hell, my towbar even has a ‘FoMoCo’ sticker on it.

But I think the looks and interior are much nicer than the Ford offering! Then again I’m slightly biased as we have one

have you ever got used to the dash in the volvo Jaymo? They look very busy, dials and knobs everywhere.

Surely at 160k your mondeo still has at least another 100k left in it.

It possibly does but she is a noisy ride, lots of things getting tired so I'm having a look.

I'll take a look at the mazda 6 thanks westward.

I had the new mondeo, Titanium with X pack with a few extra toys, 210ps engine with auto gearbox. Genuinely fantastic all round car and amazing how different it was compared to the Zetec 150ps version of the same car. It got written off 6 months ago and i have replaced it with an Outlander Phev as much cheaper company car tax......i really miss the mondeo!

I was looking at reviews of the Mondeo for a couple of hours at the weekend, the new models look very nice, but i was behind one on the motorway last week, the break lights are tiny, what have the designers done, couldn't say what the indicators were like because he never used them!!!

  11. there was, might still be a prog on discovery channel think it was called fact or fiction maybe true or false, they did a car once and showed what happens when you shoot at them, other than making you a harder target there not much use, worth a look if you can find it.

  12. I was driven home by the missis moaning because the nurse brought me a brew and asked three times if i felt ok, spent the day with my feet up, tight underwear and a good few salt baths. Try not to do any lifting, hard for you I'm sure but if your bored then clean all your guns should pass some time, sit in the garden and do some bird watching.

I only had the night off, but i was able to do light stuff at work, give it a week before you check everything is working still.

With so much natural food around you might have to bribe them with something that they cannot refuse - peanuts at the very least but shops like Lidl do mixed bags of nuts or buy a couple of bags of various types and mix them yourself - Brazil and Walnuts seem effective if mixed with peanuts. Should be a few youngsters around by now - Natures version of a pellet catcher .

Only seen a few youngsters about, which i think means were on top of the greys mostly, we only put peanuts in the feeders as were not paying ? it was just annoying not having lots of video and the times the squirrels have been coming, I'll get it next time.

I know one thing I will have no chance in attracting reds on my shoot as its inundated with grays. As my squirrel man as gone on strike? I think.

Not on strike mate just busy, shifts have been changed so Saturday is our only full day off now for family stuff, it won't be for long once summer holidays are over and i sort a new job.

  15. We'll I've failed, i repositioned the feeder to suit the camera having gone back Wednesday and finding a half empty feeder but no more pictures, a couple of times the camera has been triggered but i cant see anything.

I went back again today and came into the wood from a different direction so i could check out the beech trees but not a squirrel to be seen, then when watching where my feet were going i looked up and there is a big grey squirrel looking straight at me! Tail twitch and up the tree it goes!! So the only squirrel i saw was in a shootable position and i didn't even get the gun up.

To make matters worse the feeder was half empty again and no pictures, is it possible the squirrels aren't triggering the camera because their against the trunk?

We were in a similar situation 25 ish years ago with reds throughout the county.

Now we just have a main pocket of reds surrounded by greys, which are hammered by a dedicated band of trappers and shooters but despite this greys get through and pass the pox which decimates the reds.

While the general pubic, in the main, regard greys as 'our little wild friends ' proper control of greys is impossible as so many safe havens are being created.

Despite the announcement that the Red may become extinct little support to grey control, has been given from the powers that be and the general attiude is 'so be it'.

A bounty on greys would be a good start.

    Rant over ?

Rant away, i don't get how Scotland pay people to trap, from grant money so support grey control but in England its all done in secret by volunteers and independent charities, there was a very recent case of pox in Formby, you wouldn't believe the stuff being written on line, it was a fairly even split between for and against grey control, given that there is a small population of reds surviving at Formby there should be a complete no go zone for greys so the reds can spread out, but it seems a lot of Joe public don't have the slightest idea what needs doing fir reds to survive.
