  1. Really ? In my opinion, a Baikal is a Baikal is a Baikal .... Unless it's a ( goddamn ugly ) Merkel.
  2. I have guns with 26, 27, 28, 29.5, 30 and 32" barrels .... I prefer / shoot best, regarding results on the scoreboard, with 30s. That's all I need to know.
  3. What do you base this assertion upon ? Your closing comment - "....churlish and petty" suggests unsureness.
  4. I just had to see what all the fuss was about, so I bought a Browning 725 Grade 5 with 32" pipes ( and knockout wood ) .... Much prefer shooting 30s and the extra 2 inches is a bit of a pain regarding squeezing the longer gun into the safe, reducing the choice of gun cases to use ( I usually run an old case and save / store all others to preserve new condition ) and generally fitting the damn thing into 'regulation' spaces, like the rear of friends motor vehicles. Consequently, the Browning has it's own 'special spot' at the REAR of the safe .... at a crazy angle !
  5. Some of my shooting pals have gone nuts over them ( one is sponsored ) I'm trying to resist because of it !
  6. WD40 ain't that good .... ( as a rust preventative ) http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=398836
  7. Interesting perhaps ..... But, hardly surprising.
  8. One of the reasons I flipped a B25 E Grade .... Damn noisy sucker !
  9. Re: shotguns .... Moisten bores with Lanolin spray then a tight patch. Finish with thorough spray of Lanolin. I've been doing this for years and the ( mostly chrome ) bores are 'mirror like'.
  10. Golly .... someone really likes CG.
  11. My recently refinished Parker Reproduction DHE Grade 12 Gauge ( am enjoying this already ) Chloe .... 'pet' fox at work ( she just loves chocolate )
  12. Yay ....I think I've got it ! ( My Winchester 101 Pigeon Grade Lightweight 12 Gauge )
  13. STOP PRESS STOP PRESS STOP PRESS STOP PRESS Just found some up to date advice in the 'Off Topic' sub-forum. I'll give that a burl ....
  14. I'm new around here and am enjoying the relaxed / non-confrontational banter. Already in the few discussions that I've poked my nose into, I wished that I could add a photo or two. With the change in Photobucket's policies, could someone help with advice on which 3rd party provider is the best to host photos and also some direction in getting the pics onto PigeonWatch. Thanks.
  15. I've just taken delivery of a Miroku MK 70 Grade 5 with outstanding wood ( that was the main reason I bought it ) It cost $3200 Aus Dollars ( 1800 pounds ) Outstanding value .... except, it only comes in a bl^^dy cardboard box !
  16. Agree .... Although, some of the newest offerings getting about have very decent timber.
  17. Why do people complain, when an old thread is found relevant by someone to the point of feeling compelled to contribute ? It's just talk; sharing ideas /opinions .... it should not be so tedious ( hurtful to one's lungs )
  18. I would dearly love the skill and patience to refinish my high grade walnut wood sets ..... I've had a go in the past, with mainly less than satisfactory results - I'm a fussy ba**ard. I now take the short cut to happiness and send them out to my stock bloke. P.S. My Miroku Model 9000 Grade 5 'Special Edition' is ready for pick up after a complete re-do.
  19. Apologies .... my laziness. I think the Browning Midas chokes ONLY come in Invector plus.
  20. Have just taken delivery of a Miroku MK 70 with Invector Plus choking. The gun came with flush chokes; I want extended, for ease of use and to provide some protection for muzzles. I like the look of the The Browning Midas chokes. A few questions to the forum, before I purchase .... Browning Midas Invector chokes will of course fit my Miroku ? And, I have read somewhere that the Midas chokes made by Briley, throw tighter patterns than 'the standard'. Can anyone verify such ? ( Why would a reputable manufacturer produce a product different to the standard ? )
  21. Of late ( compared to earlier times in hunting ) I buy with thoughts of flipping the gun if it doesn't keep a smile on my face. But, because I only buy guns that 'tick most boxes' I find much to enjoy about them all. In the end, after the honeymoon period, they all find a permanent position in the safe ..... it's just a matter of how close to the door. P.S. Took delivery of a Winchester Diamond Grade Sporter a fortnight ago and a Miroku MK70 Grade 5 with spectacular wood, earlier in the week. Hopefully, that's that ..... for a while.
  22. In my opinion, a good double gun is infinitely more comfortable to shoot on a clays course than a rattly Semi Auto. It's also more reliable, easier to maintain / clean etc. However, if one needs to dabble, just because .... then that's o.k. I've seen it happen quite a bit, only for the 'dabbler' to come back to a double gun after the novelty of a semi has worn off.
  23. Yeah ... Gotta give it to Beretta. I'm still enjoying the honeymoon with my Giubileo SxS 12 gauge, ( wish I could work out / understand instructions on how to post photos )
  24. An 'exhibition' gun for 960 pounds ...new ! I don't think so.
  25. Stole the words from my mouth ....
