  1. Oh yes and: Q.) what's fifteen feet long and smells of Lavender and wee? A.) A conga line in an old folks home
  2. or crack it apart then glue or resin it together
  3. as apprentices we would find a pre 1941 florin and make a silver ring out of it something like this:
  4. ahem Ditchie !! 😆 Yes of course, I was getting it confused with a crown (which was not in general circulation.) Half a crown was two shillings and sixpence = 30d Incidentally, a lot of the older half crowns and florins had a high silver content, I wish I could go back and weed out the silver coins that must have passed through my hands
  5. Going upwards there was: a Florin (two shillings or a two bob bit, worth 24d) then half a crown worth 5 shillings or 60d, a ten bob note worth 10 shillings or 120d A pound note Life was so simple then 🤪
  6. We all got by nicely thank you, I remember when a Mars bar was 4d so you would get change from a sixpence and would get 60 mars bars to the £ (probably larger Mars bars too) 🙂
  7. A shilling was 12 old pennies, there were 20 to the £ so there were 240 pennies in a pound unless I'm mistaken. Half of a shilling was a sixpence (old pence)(or a Tanner)
  8. Let's just say that there are those who would disagree
  9. Call it what you want but these deaths occur regularly and coincide with "Mast years" when Beech trees produce higher than normal quantities of masts (Nuts.)
  10. What Marsh Man said, Oilseed rape is the last resort after all else has been cleared up, it keeps them alive until something more nutritious such as Ash buds kicks in. Rape fed pigeons tend to be a bit thin
  11. Canker caused by Beech masts. In a "mast year" such as it is now, thousands die of it. It happens approximately every five years. I went for a walk last week and there were dead pigeons everywhere under "sitty trees" around the field boundaries.
  12. Yes Poor shot, Cannabis is one thing and I agree Amsterdam and large parts of the US have it right depending upon your viewpoint but Fentanyl is another thing entirely, 50-100 times stronger than Morphine, Heroin etc, it's absolutely lethal and open to abuse, i.e. unscrupulous dealers are adding it to heroin and coke. Ask Tom Petty and Prince (RIP) and thousands of other victims. Check out 10 dollar death trip on you-tube
  13. My first gun that wasn't an air gun was a 9mm garden gun, I seem to recall that the shot size was No. 12 dust shot but all I can see in 9mm now is No. 6 shot. The little cartridges were presumably Nickel plated Brass as they were a silvery colour. A friend of mine has one, his cartridges are plain brass, it gets used around the farm as it does little damage to the buildings.
  14. A mate of mine has been using a MK38 trap gun for sporting for many years, he was a AA at his peak
  15. luxury! no disrespect meant about rapist oil BTW
  16. You might have better luck on Gunstar site: Bayonets for sale - Gunstar There must be more specialised sites out there
  17. Around 20 yrs ago there used to be a website dedicated to all things bayonet, you could buy, sell or just discuss blade markings etc. among interested parties. It might still exist although I looked for it a while back with no luck I bought something similar with a brass handle from a mate who's granddad brought it back from WW1. I paid £2 for it around 58 yrs ago (2 wks paper round money) the scabbard looked like yours. Steel with green paint and a hook on the side Mine was described as an Ersatz bayonet, more cheaply made because of the war. I bought a Lee enfield bayonet from the same era to go with it, that cost about £120 perhaps 20 yrs ago.
  18. A brilliant response from the PW fraternity, it shows that we take a real interest in our feathered friends. I did a week catfishing in Riba Rocha, Spain, on the first evening saw a White Stork, one of a few over the week, Little Bittern, Hoopoes, Purple herons, Black Kites were prolific and we spotted a few Golden Orioles one day. We were pleased to see such a profusion of birds because the Catfish were preoccupied with spawning carp and kept a low profile - although my mate did catch a 99 pounder 😵
  19. Neil Young? brilliant musician, I've followed him all my life, from my teens to 72 and counting. A bit of an **** (rhymes with glass) at times and not everything was good but he's written more classics than most.
  20. Well it wouldn't taste like corn oil would it? how DO you get the oil out of a rapist? cold pressing?
  21. I had one, possibly Black and Decker, I used it to shred a grape vine and passiflora which grew up my pergola and needed cutting back every autumn , I composted the chips. It was very noisy and a major hassle to use, getting jammed all the time. In the end I got rid of the compost heap and the shredder and now lead a quieter lifestyle
  22. There is at least one rifle range underground in or near central London. I'm led to believe that people disguise what they are carrying using Hockey bags on the tube or in Taxis, you might be surprised what they contain although when you see some 70+ year old, overweight old geezer with a heavy sports bag it might ring alarm bells.
  23. Probably because it's not cooked yet?
