  1. Your knowledge always astounds me, I enjoy your talks around a clay ground.
  2. It's actually an interesting answer, as I asked this question 18 years ago on a law course. Most legislation is written in the masculine. Ironically it used to be gender neutral, which would probably suit today better. https://civilservice.blog.gov.uk/2020/01/10/breaking-down-gender-stereotypes-in-legal-writing/ snippet:
  3. Out of curiosity, how would they get involved? I would doubt a basher; silent or vocal; would be a member. Nor would they get the support of a proposer and seconder who are members of BASC. Also, I have respected most of your posts Conor, but I felt this one was way out of line for someone representing the organisation. Just as you reel me in as a believer, something like this taints the water. There really was no need for that comment, and the interesting part is that bashers wouldn't be entitled to apply. This is not what appears to have been demonstrated in your post. It felt lacking in showing a strong moral and ethical principle. The higher ground is often a better place to be. Remember those bashers are all potential members, and more importantly part of the wider shooting community. I appreciate there may be differing opinions, but I have seen when BASC members are upset at a poor turnout to a survey or questionnaire, and wonder why these people you have just potentially slurred don't want to help with anything BASC related. Just.... be better. Please. I want to support the wider shooting community but those comments takes credence from your other messages. Your last 2 posts before mine are exactly the point of authority and respect that would be expected from a prominent member of the organisation.
  4. An excellent edit But you need a SGC or FAC to buy the gunpowder and primers IIRC? But, the rest is unrestricted.
  5. You need FAC to buy slugs. You need FAC to own slugs. You do not need an FAC or SGC to possess shot carts
  6. I love my DT. I am learning to love my M2 I can't quite bond with a pump..... Just..... no. I can't 😞 I admire those who can shoot a pump fast and well! Nice little collection you have!
  7. I do have a bit of an issue around Hortonium being labelled as such, as it's a brand name and not a metal such as steel, lead etc. But, I woudn't know what else to call it, maybe it'll become the hoover of the vacuum industry as a brand everyone knows and loves. I am intrigued to hear what game shooters feel about it, and clay shooters also. I guess the proof will be in the pudding through use! If it is cheap and viable then it certainly will be adopted by the market. I am curious as to how bismuth patterns with both plastic and fibre. I am not challenging your comment, just curious why the table that's not yours insists plastic cup.
  8. db, a great offer, thankyou! Wales is a bit of a trek unless you ever pass through Hampshire, if I can politely wait a day or so to see if there is a closer offer? If you do pass through this way, then it would be a pleasure with thanks to rehome!
  9. I have been given a SxS by a generous person on here, to take out and teach some kids some skills. So far this has benefited a few younger people and it will help more in the future. Thankyou for that generosity! If anyone in the Hampshire/Wilts area (possibly a touch further afield) who has an old SxS that's in reasonable working condition that they don't want but don't want to pay to scrap, I am in the market for a second SxS for use in a small group. I am hoping it would be donated to help a future young shot. The intention would be that if the young shot chooses to continue shooting, they will be gifted the gun after a few years as their first gun. It would not be resold, I am just looking to rehome if anyone wishes to see a gun get a new lease of life whilst lead is still viable. Wood and action prettiness is not a factor, but safe and working smoothly would be a requirement due to it being for early teen shooters.
  10. Third in line and could collect any time
  11. Just to be curious..... what semi's do you have and why did you choose them? At least we would know a bit about you and a semi shooter's choices!
  12. When a page loads like this I would always find it suspicious! Whois shows it's not a new company: Domain name: dandacountrywear.co.uk Data validation: Nominet was able to match the registrant's name and address against a 3rd party data source on 25-Jul-2018 Registrar: 123-Reg Limited t/a 123-reg [Tag = 123-REG] URL: https://www.123-reg.co.uk Relevant dates: Registered on: 25-Jul-2018 Expiry date: 25-Jul-2024 Last updated: 18-Jul-2023 Registration status: Registered until expiry date. 13. I saw someone wearing percussion wellies recently, they looked pretty sturdy.
  14. I have had 3 things sent second class to me in the last month. 2 things surprised me: 1. RM delivered on a sunday 2. The quickest arrived in 16 days, the longest around 25
  15. Nice gun, but may help to show the stock?
  16. Connor that may be suitable for a separate thread to gain traction. side note; does this mean practical shotgun would cease to be if lead was banned?
  17. I think the bigger issue is getting game people to reply to game surveys also Not enough respondents in any of them! From my limited experience, I'd say only 5% max of those I shoot with actively do both game and clay. But that's my limited world.
  18. I'm not an active fan of BASC, but not a basher either. I have opinions on most things, as we all do. I don't always agree with Connor's agenda (which of course in turn is BASCs agenda), and sometimes find some of his posts inflammatory or appearing to be butthurt. But, as a representation of an organisation he will rarely win either way as it's a damned if you do or damned if you don't. I do however appreciate that he has had the decency to reach out and call, and sort out an issue privately. I have seen him offer this several times and respect that greatly. Back on topic...... It's great the OP was assisted by BASC. I have only one negative experience and that related to me offering to volunteer my time to new shooters on behalf of BASC and basically having a brush off. But, if that's not on their agenda then that's me who felt it was negative, rather than it being negative. I don't agree with all their policies, but agree with many of them. I think we need to remove the "clay shooters should support game shooters even if it's to their detriment! One Team, boys" attitude and look at "how do we have a pragmatic voice that supports all shooters, and appreciates that sometimes disciplines conflict in their needs, and how we can use this to our advantage". That, and understanding that if we had a split where clay shooters can use lead and game shooters must use steel, that the disadvantaged side is just "happy" it's not a complete ban rather than "if we can't have it, why should they?". We need to be supportive and take the wins. I am sure there are examples the other way around, and as a poor example I do agree that clay shooters should help complete "game shooter only surveys" to support their fellow shooter. JMHO.
  19. If you're ever around Salisbury at a mutually agreeable time I have some litespeed and other carts I could swap 1 for 1? I'll let you see if it can work for the game carts first but that's an open ended offer.
  20. There's no shame in that, and thankyou for helping reduce stigma and stereotype by feeling you can share that. Admitting a problem is genuinely the first step to getting help. I see a lot of horrid things with work, if you want to offload and need to talk to a stranger to offload, feel free to reach out. It's ok to not be ok. General advice to everyone: Samaritans - 116 123 (language line 7pm-11pm - 0808 164 0123) Suicide prevention helpline - 0800 689 5652 (6pm-midnight) SHOUT - text based support for immediate crisis support - 85258 NHS - 111 and 999 MIND - 0300 123 3393 (9am-6pm, Monday to Friday) Remember that you could call any of those if you are struggling supporting someone else, and consider resources like SANEline and other free resources.
  21. Good point. I'd suggest if we look at plastic vs fibre wad, there was a price shift a year or so ago. Whilst I appreciate your point, it surely must flip. BUT, it won't be price flipping, I'd suggest steel will stay as it is and lead would become costly annoyingly. Then we will have the plaswad debate come up again....
  22. I disagree. As soon as manufacturers are making steel their main shot and only do lead in small batches, and the price points flip, most shooters will move to what's financially more economical.
  23. I wonder if the outcome would have been different if a mandatory medical would have generated a different outcome.
  24. Are these comments "I really can't see how medical issues that could cause a risk to themselves or others that have been previously hidden from the police is a waste of time and money in the application/renewal process"? I appreciate it's more admin and more cost, but..... really? A marker on the medical file is a flag that could be missed. A full check is exactly that. Removing the licences from people unsuitable to own guns will only protect the other shooters ability to keep shooting. It may cost us some money, but if it prevents another Plymouth and more scrutiny, then it is worth the cost. Sorry, I just don't think it makes it harder to 'get guns', unless you have issues that would prevent your personal ownership.
  25. Morning WF I think it's really important to be careful of advice, especially anecdotal historical cases. It is also difficult if no-one is an FEO as it is at best just advice. I do wish you well, and avoiding treatment is not the cure. Mental ill health is so prevalent in society, and there is support and help available to you. My personal opinion, take as you will.... Firstly, a diagnosed and treated illness should not preclude you from either a new grant or a continuance of a grant. No-one will know the severity based on "I have depression", it could just be the old fashioned 'I have blue days', through to 'the voices sometimes overwhelm me'. No gun is worth ill mental health. Go get treatment. If you feel the need then put your guns into storage and generate an audit trail of good reasoned behaviour. If you just feel low and anxious, it doesn't mean you're a risk to yourself from your guns. Do you have indicators of self harm? If not, the risk is even lower. However, if you do, then you need to speak to your GP, to a crisis team, to the samaritans or Mind. You can use the samaritans and MIND any time and it's not recordable. With regards to "protection", if on renewal your GP deems you to be under treatment and there is no risk to yourself and others, and if they say no risk or mitigated risk, then this shouldn't stop your renewal. But, you need to appreciate that your shooting life may end if the GP says you have a risk factor, and whilst that may seem wrong if shooting is one of the few things that grounds you, that you may have your licence revoked. The best of luck. This weblink may be of use for some advice: https://www.medicalprotection.org/uk/articles/key-considerations-in-the-new-firearms-licensing-guidance
