Glensman
In fairness that was fox-hunting as in wearing red coats and following a pack of hounds. I'm a keen hunter (and I've shot many a fox) but I don't think fox-hunting in that style is acceptable myself... Just as I don't think foxing with an air-rifle or .22lr is a great idea! manton
It seems unreasonable to me (but then it always has) how the religious belief of one grouping can be applied to the whole population. However, would this come under policing and justice or sport? If it comes under sport then we're ******** (McCausland's another flat earther) but we may have some chance if we lobby the UUP, SF, SDLP and Alliance. It would be easier to go straight to your elected reps than BASC. Although considering the hissy fit the Free Presbyterians through when Rugby was played on a Sunday I can't see them jumping at the idea of shooting. Thing is they only make up 5% of the overall population. Problem is the free presbyterians are not the only group in N Ireland with convictions about Sunday if you care to check you will find that many ordinary irish presbyterians ,baptists .methodists and other reformed groups share the same opinion. Ozzy Fudd
true, many other people share beliefs about keeping the sunday holy, not just the free p's, but does that mean its ok for them to force their religious beliefs on people who dont share the same views? Glensman
I think the same debate is going on across 2 threads now... We should probably ditch one of them...

Ballymac
I voted yes (I raised the question initially with David). This poll is raising a few things open to debate. I appreciate Davids' remarks about not wanting to make things worse because further restrictions could be placed on shooters. Monkeyboots makes a good point about trails and large estates having an extra day or a more suitable day to run their respective persuits. Also those who say no have not come forward with any reason. gLENSMAN makes a good point regarding the politics of this point, who or where do we go to next ? Not to hi jack or derail this thread but how would a "season" for sunday shooting, e.g. 1st Sept to 28th Feb so that estates gun clubs etc can benefit and at least there is some time available to shoot on a Sunday.Maybe more for DavidBasc to take on board. mayfly36
Yes even that would be a start, a designated time off the year, but have you heard the expression "Falling on deaf ears".
monkeyboots
i dont think anyone i know gives a toss about all this sabbath carry on cos there all down the pub drinking on a sunday so im sure if sunday shooting was allowed they would be all out shooting instead of drinking, and im the same as glensman ive land thats far away from houses to be annoying anyone on a sunday , mayabe if as sinn feinn say they will have a united ireland by 2016 then its not all doom and gloom for the likes of me as then we can have sunday shooting same as the south

The people at BASC and SACS and CA and any other organisation are probably the best people to judge this issue as they deal with the decision makers on a frequent basis and can best judge the feeling towards this. There are lots of things that go on out there that do not go un noticed and joe publics' view of our combined shooting activities is not favourable. Also if we gave up our masters in london for Dublin I could have a centrefire rifle with out havin to do the DS bloody C!

davie mac
Yes should be allowed in my opinion but then there are people who will believe its against there religion. If its against someones religion then they dont have to go shooting, but that shouldn't affect everyone else that would like to shot on a Sunday. clutey
Yes for any type of shooting on a Sunday. For the life of me can't see how the noise is any more ripe on a Sunday than any other day of the week.
