the police should be done for digging into a badger sett, IF it was a badger set :good: many old badger setts that are disused by badgers are then used by fox, so it was mostly likely a fox that was dug , but there is a hell of a differance between digging a badger and badger baiting , that diiging out link should be removed

A 'bloody rude' reply is all you will get from me when you put up links to **** like that written by anti scum. Shame on you for even using their material to defend your post. So I take it you believe that **** on diggingout?

'I shoot and murder fluffy things quite happily thanks' Not the way I see my sport. Murder fluffy things?

No, I believe my own eyes from my own experiences as a lad with my Grandfather who was a Gamekeeper. He's no longer with us so I couldn't get him to vouch for me. 'spose I could always dig him out

On the one hand you're calling me an anti and on the other you're accusing me of being too bloodthirsty, make your mind up.

More rudeness please :good:

Nah no more rudeness tonight. Although I do enjoy 'baiting' anti's. I'll leave you to enjoy your sabs and anti hunting sites.

I simply posted that link as a reference to the fact that Badger Baiters do dig pits in which to drop terriers and Bagders to fight.

Somebody did dig a 6 x 2 hole on somebody else's land for whatever reason and rather than just saying that it's weird I did stick my kneck out with a possible explanation.

I'm not an anti, I simply did a Google search to back up my assertion that Baiters do sometimes dig a pit. It doesn't take long for 2 or 3 fit blokes to dig a pit big enough.

I realise that the Government is used to telling us what we can and can't do, shame some members think they they have the same right.

I will visit whatever websites I choose.

I shoot and murder fluffy things quite happily thanks.

I remember now why I stopped using this site a while back, because some don't have the decency to say "I disagree with that post" but instead chose to be downright bloody rude.

Sorry but using "evidence" from an anti fieldsports organisation to back up your assertion is like getting gary glitter to fill in for your baby sitter. Most if not all of the stuff on such sites is complete fiction mostly designed to get the vulnerable buffoons that visit such sites to part with their money to save something fluffy.

As someone else said, stick a terrier that's been to ground in a pit with brock and there will only be one winner.

Without being rude, maybe you could use a reputable source for your assertions and maybe one that isnt 100% against what you are researching.

It's possible that they had dug the pit so that they could put any Badger they'd dug out into the pit with a Terrier and then bet on the outcome  Shotgun could have been used to finish off Badger and body removed to lose evidence.

http://www.diggingout.org/badger_baiting.html

The strange thing is, if there was 3 cartridges found and people are saying it was used to dispatch the badger or fox or whatever it may have been-how big was it to take 2 cartridges and survive for a 3rd at close range, if it was used to finish a badger off and 2 terriers (which is possible) there would be one hell of a bloodbath and all of the loose soil would be covered in it. This whole story sounds a bit ******** to me, and as for that link, well, we shall all form our opinions! :good:

Ok you want Facts badgerbaiting consist of confining a badger in a barrel or box on its side with a tethered badger and a terrier (staff or kerry blue etc) is used to draw the badger

thats what badger biting is. To put a terrier small enough to be dug to into a six foot deep pit with a badger you will be left with one very badly injured terrier if it survives. Please do not repeat the **** you see on anti site here and I see so called evidence offered by the police and the ss pca in badger cases that I am involved in. How would you like five cops two ss pca inspectors coming into your house at 7oclock in the morning and seizing two copies of the countrymans weekly and a spade from your garden shed.

Would the hole have been six foot deep?, 6 foot by 2 foot rectangle to suit body size by the sound of it. Probably only 2 or 3 foot deep maybe.

Only guessing though but from what I have seen of badger baiting seems about the size required the old fashioned way, maybe things have changed and they can't be bothered to dig holes any more.

P.S. Don't think I would like that as an alarm clock. It's bad enough when the illegal hare coursers wake me up and make me chase them off.

what happens if badger baiting is not the case? Dig hole, hide in it, shoot badger(s), bury what you don't want and leg it. Of course, from that range it's easy to miss with a shotgun and a fatally wounded brock could well make the few yards home. A while back there was some hoo haa about skinned foxes being found at a location I can't remember. They'd been shot which is not illegal unlike brock, where disposing of the evidence is advisable. This scenario begs the question: Which skin is the most profitable?

If they were after a badger they will put it in a sack and take it away to be used for a "show" somewhere else after starving it and frightening it by hitting it with sticks and shining torches in its eyes to make it more aggressive. . They probably put a dog into the hole and it got stuck down there so they had to dig for it.

My friend used to be a badger warden at Ashridge near Tring and they used to get ****** trying to get at the badgers on the estate all the time.

There's big money in it and the people who do it are more than willing to give you a good hiding if you try and stop them. A big male badger is worth around £100 to these people. They sell them to the show organisers, who then make thousands from the betting and entry money on the door.

Nailed it in one KFC. Well said. I think I mentioned keyboard warriors on another thread. I rest my case.

Edited to delete a bit. No wars on here.

If people were paying £100 per badger there would be none left! I listen to this **** from badger "EXPERTS" all the time, in what was supposed to be the biggest badger baiting ring of all time in Scotland two of the experts sat out at night they didnt see any (cos there werent any in the holes in question) but they said they (could hear badgers CALLING from a nearby wood). This case was featured on wildlife detectives on BBC and of the 8 charges against the boys after I put in a report and another defense witness put in a report to the procurater fiscals office all charges except 1 interfering with a badger sett were dropped. The ss pca were livid they said they lost the overall case through a legal loophole. Aye No evidence some loophole.

Vulpicide, interesting view on the subject, so you reckon badger fighting and by dog fighting doesn't go on? Do you have any other similar views you want to share with us? I'm not a badger expert (neither are you by the sound of it) but I am a magistrate and dog fighting is on the increase massively because of all these people buying fighting dogs. If they can get a badger its top of the bill.

Theres a difference between this is all happening and succesful prosecution the difference is evidence, the BBC had those guys all guilty despite the fact that there was NO evidence to support it I do not condone badger digging but that is not what was going on and if you are a magistrate check the qualitty of evidence very carefully.

Get a grip, half of the time a striper will walk up to you if you don`t move and are downwind, they have terrible eyesight until you move.

Of course, all this is supposition, but you missed the point. I think we all know about brock's eyesight. However,if you have to dig a hole, why not use it or are you going to start digging with the evidence if full view to be caught by Sapper at some ungodly hour on a Sunday morning.

The people who go after the badgers on the actual ground are not usually into the baiting. They are just "Oiks" looking to make some quick beer money by selling the live badgers on. In much the same way as deer poachers sell the meat on to someone else.

They don't use big dogs or ones that will attack the badger. Thats the last thing they want. They just use a little terrier with the idea that the badger will chase it out again and get caught in the net they spread at the entrance to the sett. If it all goes well for them it can be over in less than a minute and no tell tale signs to show they have ever been there. They don't even peg the net out so there aren't any peg hole to give them away. They don't need to put the dog deep into the hole, just deep enough for the badger to realise there is a dog in the sett and it will usually give chase.

Digging is not part of their plan, they only have to dig if the dog gets cornered by the badger under ground and can't get back out again. Even then i suspect a lot of them would just abandon the dog underground rather than start digging.
