lewis 682
Any one reccomend a good semi auto? Ihave just about given up on the Hatsun escort after endless probs! Quite like not having to worry about the wood getting marked so a synthetic stock is preferable. Winchester Browning Berretta Webley& Sott Or any other reccomendations, any info would be good Regards Lewis.

ziplex
I'd say have a look at an M2 as well, very reliable
chrispti
Beretta Xtrema 2. Less felt recoil than any other semi auto on the market. Doesnt need to be ''run in'' like the others. Cycles all 12g cartridges, allot of others like the SX3, Benelli's etc, wont cycle 65mm cartridges. I have had mine caked in thick black mud whilst out on the fore shore wildfowling, been out in horrendous rain, sleet, snow and the gun fired and re-cycled EVERY time

davie mac
Beretta Xtrema or the 391 Urika,id say stay away from the webley and scott, i think it and the Escort are different pups from the same bitch,if ya get my drift. Raja Clavata
A Urika 2 should be fine for pigeons, no real need for an extrema.
Guest topshot_2k
Remington 1187 for definate, ultra reliable/tough, cycles all ammo 25g+ and half the price of the beretta. Also look at the Fabarms.

chrispti
Thats incorrect, my mate uses 65mm carts on pigeons Then hes a lucky man, as it even says in the manual that the minimum cartridge size to be used should be 70mm, although we found that Some 67mm cartridges would cycle. ozzy518
Another vote here for the Beretta Extrema 2......but then i'm biased.
onlyme
Budget is the biggy pal. So much choice out there and a good semi for every price. The extrema is a good bit of kit. But bloody expensive if its for field use. I had a browning gold fusion. Gas system on it so very low recoil. Great little tool and cycled everything except carts with dodgy lumpy brass. For a work horse I'd reccomend an old berreta 302 ! Cracking bit of kit if not a bit quirky. Will last an age too. If you could post a budget up the lads could throw up some suitable semis in that price range
starlight32
Thats incorrect, my mate uses 65mm carts on pigeons Then hes a lucky man, as it even says in the manual that the minimum cartridge size to be used should be 70mm, although we found that Some 67mm cartridges would cycle. My SX3 cycles 65mm shells, I had the Browning Pheonix before it which would not. The M2 I can say though does not cycle 65mm cartridges as i have tried it without success. If you are entering the semi automatic world buy yourself a 3 1/2" even If you don't need one at present, becuase often people circumstances change and you then find yourself in a position of needing another gun! Getting to be a lot of money for an extrema II, some dealers wanting approaching 1500 notes. I have to say thatis alot of money for field gun, but if you can afford it go for it! Nial
Remington 1187 for definate, ultra reliable/tough, cycles all ammo 25g+ and half the price of the beretta. Also look at the Fabarms. I have put a couple of hundred 21g clay cartridges through mine so far with no jams! The 11-00 comes with a 3" chamber too now so that's another option (as a good all rounder). Nial. Edited November 19, 2009 by Nial
jackinbox99
Another vote for the beretta from me, ive a al391 which ive had for donkeys years. It handles anything i put through it without any problem even little 21g clay cartridges. I must have put thousands and thousands of cartridges through it and only had it "jam" once when i first got it - but i stripped it down and gave it a good clean out and its been fine ever since. They also seem to hold their 2nd hand value quite well.

Just went from an 11-87 to an Xtrema 2 and the only reason was for wildfowling, if it wasn`t that or longer range fox work I wouldn`t have moved. teel9964
Beretta 303, they are not expensive and if you get one in good condition it will do the job. Especially if you intend using over the fields. £300 - £450 for a good condition one. Had mine 2 years and has been fine for me. Multi choke etc.

teel9964
No problem, sure you can forward that 10% on to me once the sale is made!! Ha. They genuinely are a good gun, reliable and soild quality. I went to trade mine in against a ulrika 391, and the fella who owns the gun shop asked why i would do that? There is no benefit in spending the extra money, they are basically the same quality gun. That says it all!! He could have made money but give me honest advice instead!! Similar story I was about to buy a New Semi and the Gun shop suggested this one to make sure my daughter liked the Semi before spending New money he virtually guaranteed the same money if I traded it back against a new gun
Breastman
M2 or Extrema 2 gets my votes. Just to get defensive, when i use my M2 for vermin, i use 30g #6 Gamebore Clear Pigeon, which is a 65mm cartridge, never had a single stoppage. Also tried 21gr clay carts in it and they're no problem either, guess i'm just 'lucky' Mark
