ME
Just been looking at a few sites and was amazed at the size of the UK Gun Trade. Out of interest, does anyone know how many people in the UK own one or more guns ? or How many FAC / Shotgun licence holders are there in the UK ? Anyone got any facts that can be backed up - as opposed to "I reckon 10,000" or "my dog told me 5" or "what is the best calibre for giraffe"
Peter De La Mare
I read earlier this year in one of the mags that there were just over 500,000 SGCs issued in the UK. I may have imagined the actual figure, but that's what's sticking in my mind.

Markio
Is that 0.8% of the population then (based on 60million)?
petethegeek
How many FAC / Shotgun licence holders are there in the UK ? According to this parliamentary report (see fig 4) it was just under 150,000 / just over 600,000 ten years ago.
Piebob
Out of interest, does anyone know how many people in the UK own one or more guns ? This will only ever be a best guess as the fantastic licensing system can't actually produce that information. How many FAC / Shotgun licence holders are there in the UK ? As above in previous posts, was in Shooting Times but can't recall the figure quoted, but the system can at least do that.
CZ550Kevlar
Might be worth writing to the Police on that one under the freedom of information act, that should keep them busy at the computers for a little while.

MC
Well the police don't know how many guns there are around so I don't suppose many people do.
smiiithy
They won't even tell me when I might hear from them about getting a visit from my FEO so I think keeping them busy is the last thing we need. 3 months and no word on my SGC, haven't even had a visit Might be worth writing to the Police on that one under the freedom of information act, that should keep them busy at the computers for a little while. ME
Well the police don't know how many guns there are around so I don't suppose many people do. I am talking legit guns on SGC or FAC here. I know that Mungler probably has the most in Essex.
Peter De La Mare
Looks like 1,360,000 shotguns according to that handy report. Though there are 24k fewer registered shotguns than last year.... where'd they all go? Added to those imported, which must be quite a few thousand.... Catamong
I am talking legit guns on SGC or FAC here. I know that Mungler probably has the most in Essex. Well, according to Mungler, 99% of clay shooters are not CPSA members, but the CPSA has about 23,000 members, so on that basis there are over 2.3 million people out shooting clays most Sunday mornings. Good job they don't all turn up at JJ's, they'd run out of burgers. It puts America, (the gun capital of the World) to shame. Cat.

burntout
They won't even tell me when I might hear from them about getting a visit from my FEO so I think keeping them busy is the last thing we need. 3 months and no word on my SGC, haven't even had a visit have you tried contacting the FEO directly? Sorry to hear about your delay - especially as I joined the forum, applied after you and already have one - picking the second up on Saturday. smiiithy
Northumbria don't seem to like being chased, I've spoken to them twice and they are very abrupt when I ask roughly how long I should expect to wait to hear from them. They told me in the middle of October it was with an officer but wont tell me when I can expect to hear about the visit or let me speak to the officer.
