henry d
...... One day after I shot 50 straight at skeet I stopped off at a field and shot 48 pigeons with 50 cartridges ( 9’s) yes they were minced but it was great to see them explode like a clay. Nice respect you have for your quarry
OGGIE
I have a Remmington 11-87 and intend to use it pigeon shooting. It will not cycle 65mm cartridges. ( I've had it serviced by a respected gunsmith). I'm having problems sourcing 70mm fibre wad 6's can anyone make suggestioons of choice out there. the hitman
When i am shooting pigeons , decoying or roosting , i use maionchi prima 28g no 7.5 . I have total confidence in these shells. I dont think you need heavy cartridges to kill pigeons , i keep mine for the pheasants.
Rizzini
Hia mate, just to share my info with you lot lol. I used 7.5 28gram in my 20bore when walking around the local farm. It would take rabbits, pigeons, squirrels and crows to about 35yards. The problem was shot placement. If i hit it in the right place the 7.5 would kill the quarry out right. But, pigeons were the ones that mainly got pricked a lot when i used them. All im saying is, if you can hit the bird in the right place then 7.5s are a great cart but, if your not 100% confident shooter, use a bigger shot size. Will save you a lot of time and get you more pigeons.

benelli montefeltro
while out for a walk today before dinner, my dad killed a pigeon passing by that would have needed to be seen to be believed! all of 60 yards, dead in the air, the cartridge??....... 24g 7.5 a cloud of feathers came out of this bird as you often see at close ranges! I would go back to the gunsmith myself.
eggy
I thought that this forum was for people to give their views etc on what someone had asked. I see from my comments to the subject that one of the site supporters questions my respect of my quarry. Perhaps if he read deeper he would have realized what I was stating. And that was that you can shoot pigeons with smaller shot sizes than 6 or 4’s that’s if you have the ability to shot straight yes the “quarry will be minced” with 9’s but as for my statement that they exploded like clays was because they were all clean kills with no runners. As for the respect for your quarry how does he feel when he kills pigeons in the summer and then leaving the squabs to die of starvation some where in the surrounding woods. When people take the time to pass on some advice to the new comers to our sport you should read , and keep your personal opinion of the person taking the time to answer, to yourself . benelli montefeltro
have to agree there. the same guys criticising are probably the same guys who slaughter the pigeons in the summer. i will stop this year when i see a pigeon display flighting or hear them cooing. and yes that may seem ludicrous to most on here, but thats just me. i started late september this year and first few birds i shot still had the cheesy milk in em, so i wont start till mid october this year. plus in winter the birds shot are in great condition, loadsa fat on em. birds at the moment are great condition for eating
tweedledee
guys i do a fair bit of crow decoying and use 7.5s nearly all the time.that said i do tighten the chokes .i have good kills.i don`t feel this has a lack of respect for my quarry. it seems to work for me,if i was n`t getting good kills then i would move on to 30/32 no 6s. I GUESS IT`S ABOUT KNOWING YOUR LIMITATIONS. Edited January 3, 2010 by tweedledee
