Royboy
I was just wondering about injured geese. Ive never been goose shooting and when a goose is just injured how do you go about killing it humanly ? Ive done a lot of duck shooting but ive been told that geese are far far stronger than ducks. Sorry for the daft question but i wont find out if i dont ask !!
TomV
perhaps a suitably weighted priest would do the job
apache
shoot it again?
anser2
Simple , cleanly break its neck in the same way you would do with any other birds from pigeon to duck. place your first two fingers each side of the neck - under the head , take the weight of the bird off the ground , spin a couple of times and the bird is dead in a second. chrispti
Firstly, make sure you use a decent/ suitable goose cartridge. Edited January 3, 2010 by chrispti

How do you get near an angry injured Goose? If a pigeon or a pheasant flaps its wings when you grab it, no big deal, but a goose is a far stronger bird. I guess that in that situation, it would get another shot to the head?
al4x
no need to shoot it again, just go and get hold of it and as said either use a priest or break its neck.

shakin stevens
I would second the good dog answer! ive got a big dog labrador and he copes well, took him a bit to get used to flapping wings.

Traztaz
GSP soon sorts out the running about malarky, followed as has been suggested by the hold tight windmill action.

henry d
I would add that with all birds of pigeon size upward, that you should be wary of how you pick them up. A broken wingbone being flapped fast will scar you badly if you pick it up by the body
al4x
If you hold both wings together it stops any flapping and presents the neck well for the coup de grace
waddy
I have only ever had one goose go for me and that was one which I happened upon near some of our permission (had a lack of wing feathers so obviously clipped at some point). A 20 minute chase around a 50 acre field and I caught up with it (didnt have a gun on me at the time!) but that is another story Generally they are in so much shock when they land that they will just lay there when you approach them anyway. A goose's neck is a thick old bit of kit so they do take some breaking. A firm grip of the head and turn the body over 2/3 times always does the job without fail.
