ollie
Yes Mixy. You want to get rid of them before it spreads through the rest of the area. Do any of you guys believe the theory that some rabbits are becoming immune too it?
GREENGRASS
What ever it was or is you did the poor thing a favour. GG
sambu13
Yes Mixy. You want to get rid of them before it spreads through the rest of the area. Do any of you guys believe the theory that some rabbits are becoming immune too it? Its inevitable, when a disease it forced on a population like that i would think it would accelerate the selection of immune individuals. might happen more in unshot areas so the infected have a chance to recover and pass on there immunity? just a guess. Do any of you guys believe the theory that some rabbits are becoming immune too it? Yes, I believe that some rabbits have developed a "degree" of imunity to mixy just as some can recover from it! sandersj89
Yes, Mixy...if it were VHD then you raely seem them with it as it kills very quickly and most die in their burrows. It goes through like a dose of salts with mortality normally within 48 hours. Basically the impact of Mxyi and observed rates of fatality has change significantly since the first introduction of the 50's. Mortality rates have dropped from 99% to less than 50% due to genetic levels of resistance building.
night owl
mate yes they do get amuned to it we have proved it on a section of land that has a golf corse on it mixy was intreduced in the late 80 to the corse all rabbits were wiped out this land is over aprox 3 square miles by the late 90 rabbits were thriving on the land againe the odd one will have mixy but the other ones are quite happy and there a lot of them there so you would have thought that if one rabbit has mixy next to such numbers of rabbits you would expect to see mixy rabbits every where but you dont there all as fit as a fiddle the land is shoot but not heavy due to where it is situated herm island which is just 3 miles away by boat was hit hard years ago with mixy and the same happend there now there a big nusence over there and a healh hazard due to the transport they use on the island which is still horses .same thing a couple of mixy now and then but nothing compard to the amount of rabbits there
foghorn
Hi, Yes some rabbits are immune to mixy, in the early 90s i was ferreting in the Yorkshire Dales and we got 30 odd and 17 that had scars from mixy but had recovered and were very healthy, that was until we killed them.
