I have just noticed a request on one of the posts on "Sporting Pictures" asking if someone could do a quick video of how to call foxes using a mirror and a piece of polystyrene so, just to help out here it is! Sorry about the sound being slightly out of sinc, I dropped the camcorder and don't think I did it any favours!

You just wait till the dog gets hold of your squeeky bits - "Revenge is sweet" so they say!

Seriously though, I have never tried them, do they take much blowing mate?

How important is it that the mirror comes from Cornwall ? :good:

Nice one Frenchieboy, thanks for taking the time.

It's very hard to get a good "foxing mirror" in Lancashire. The "Lancashire Lassies" are very reluctant to part with their mirrors whereas the Cornish Gals aren't so worried about standing in front of a mirror "preening" themselves all day!

I surpose that's me in deep **** now for saying that!

we went out last night and tried this method on the landrover mirrors . We couldnt believe how well it worked . We called in 6 foxs over a few farms and they all came running in like steam trains ,it was amazing .

I think it fair to say all our other fox call will be left at home .

The only other fantastic call i have made is the one with 2 lollypop sticks and a piece of video tape to produce the squeel

It's quite surptising isn't it Stokie, sometimes the simplest methods are the best. However having said that I would not go out foxing without at least a couple of options for calling. I always carry a WAM (type) caller as well and am trying to get a few squeekers out of dogs toys to try. What works on one night might not work on another mate!

We are fairly new to fox shooting and have got several calls . Some seem to have no effect other than getting charlie to sit a watch you which doesnt help if you cant encourage it in for a safe shot .

I know with all calls its about practice and seeing what works .

We have also noticed that if you over use a call in one area then it becomes less effective.

Last night we sat in the landy laughing about how easy it was to call anything within earshot with something I had rumaged out of the bin

Ive made one out of a wooden clothes peg and tape from an old cassett.

Take the clothes peg apart, cellotape the 'cassett tape' to the outside of one half of the peg, invert the other half not used yet so that in effect the two 'outsides' of the peg (when in normal use) are touching each other, and cellotape together.

I dont shoot foxes myself, but its a very effective way of calling in a fox, and great to use when out with the kids for some entertainment value.

Read this sometime ago, and it works a treat :good:

Some of the fox calls I use are made out of magnum lolly pop sticks with a strip of plastic sandwiched between them. I have experimented with different plastic, and they all give different sounds.

I also made a few with 2 pices of plastic that came from a packet of ham. Th plastic was the peel back type. It worked well. I take a few with me when lamping, and use different ones to alter the pitch of the call.

Cheap and easy to make, and, if lost, I make another one. :good:

This sounds interesting mate. I prefer to make things myself so is there any chance of a few photos of this type of caller for the "thickies" like me so it's easier to understand please?

The same question to Steve_B_Wales please?

Frenchie, check out the pics section. I posted a diagram of a fox caller on there.
