dogfox
Picked up my Cz 452 lux late january but have not had time to post pics of it since , but NOW is the time! Pics of the gun istelf will be found in another thread taken with a better camera, these are pics of my bag today! i went out around 3.15 to a local permission and not 10 minutes after walking into the field this huge basil runs out from under my legs! (she had been basking in the sun) i dropped down, safety off, gave a quick squeek, she turned at 55 yds i stood up and bang! headshot behind the ear with an eley sub! there wasnt a twitch out of her. She was huge, and had a gorgeous coat on her aswell! after this i stayed there for a bit hoping to catch the chance of a cub wandering about, but instead i saw 2 other HUGE basils! no cubs, (which i thought was strange) i couldnt get the other 2 to come in as they were completely oblivious to my squeeking!, but im going to head up there with a lamp sometime soon and have a crack at them then. After this i headed down to my permission about a Km down the road and had 3 bunnies off that. All headshots, 2 at 40yds and another at 82yds. (im zero'd at 70, an inch high at 35, go Mil dot scopes!) here are a few piccies! there will be more to come! WGD
Early yet for cubs to be born, never mind out and about. Good shooting on the rabbits, not sure about the fox at 55 with a .22 sub but the job's done and each to their own. abiteachuck
its been said before i know, but be careful about posting shooting charlie with a .22 its not recomended and your FAs officer would not be to pleased to see the pics or the antis, just a thought as said you does your own thing. but dont agree with it,you wont get it on your fac, a .22 or .17 if you want to shoot foxs then i would get the right gun for the job. ive had to many runners with my .17,so i only shoot charlie with mi .223 " there dead" not causeing grief just passing an opinion. keith
Frenchieboy
Hold on guys before you all go jumping down someones throat why not check on if it is justified or not. If you look at where Dogfox is from you will see that it is Cork, Ireland - Is it not possible that rimfire is allowed for fox there? I am not saying that it is or it isn't, all I am saying is that maybe we all should check on out facts first!

Correct, It is legal for anything except deer over here. In my opinion a headshot from a .22 subsonic still carying 96ft lb of energy is more than enough to knock a fox out, especially in the brainbox! Just my opinion from personal experience with Hornet .223 .243 .17 and .

George1990
40 grains even at sub velocities give a good whack, especially at 50 yards. I'd rather be shot in the head with a .22 sub than a shotgun at the same range. Did a test (turned into one anyway) with a shotgun and a .22 sub on a very hard plastic ball. To our surprise the shotgun didn't even penetrate - just left grey splatters on it. Moved it further away and shot with the sub - massive impact sound and went clean through with lots of damage inside.

I think alot of shooters underestimate the .22, it si far more powerful than one might think it is! as we both know!

Evil Elvis
I have to agree it is a bit early for cubs to be born never mind out. Depends where you are, I have seen a dead cub already, about the size of a jack russell.

That's very true, the cubbing time can vary from one area to another. I shot a vixen a couple of weeks ago that I am sure was carrying cubs!
