Goathead
Is there somewhere I can get some old shotties to strip to figure out how they work? It would be good to have a spare Baikal O/U for parts, there must be loads out there not worth repairing - where do they all end up? Cheers Halam
KPV4
Those that are no longer loved and cared for will more than likely be handed into the police and sent to the crusher or possibly deactivated and hung on the wall

Imperfection
I would imagine they get melted down and made into paperclips or such when handed into the Police for destruction. You couldnt buy a fully functioning barrel for example because unless its been officially deactivated and certified by a proof house-its still a classed as a gun. Paddy Galore!
a lot of them end up being used for spares by gunsmiths, stuff can usualy be salvaged from and old gun, such as levers, pins, hammers etc. youd be surprised how much "junk" some gunsmiths aquire. might be worth having a friendly chat with one local to you. Vince Green
Some get shipped abroad to parts of the world where they will finish their life as farmers guns in places like India. There are dealers who specialise in buying up all the old tat from shops who don't wan't to re-sell them. There are also specialist gun breakers, like car breakers, where dealers go to source parts. More so for rifles and pistols but shotguns as well. Numrich was the big one in America but they don't do as much secondhand stuff as they used to. Hammergun
Anything handed into the police will get scrapped unless it is of high value (usually stolen and in that case they will attempt to trace the rightful owner), or of any significant historical interest. Anything handed into a gunsmith or dealer is signed over to them, becoming their property to do what they want with, be it sell on, destroy or break for spares. Many gunsmiths are asked for short lengths of damascus barrels (such as about 2 inches or so) for interest and can usually provide you with them if you are intetested. You won't be able to buy complete barrels or components unless you are a RFD.

Cant you buy barrels if you have an SGC? or incomplete guns?as long as barrels are in proof and there is a lump of wood attached to make it over legal length? Yes in theory but you would have a job trying to buy any.
Vince Green
Its a bit off topic but you can buy a rifled barrel blank without a licence.( Strangely enough.) Its only when a chamber is machined in it that it becomes a barrel and requires a licence. The way it was explained to me was that everyone who owns a .22 air rifle has an unchambered .22 barrel and its perfectly legal to own.
