Your round Mr fox

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Was out earlier in the week with dead eye duck on fox patrol. We got to one of our local patches for 2030hrs just in time for full darkness. We set out on our usual patrol route after taking into account the wind direction.

The first field we called in was for no response, we didnt hang around too long as experience has taught us that if anything is in the area it will show itself quickly as the motorway is not too far away and drowns out the call for long distances.

So off we went to what we affectionately call foxy corner. This is the corner of where 2 fields meet.... good grief we have shot some foxes here over the years so we always approach stealthily as there could be foxes very close by. Our caution paid off.

i gave a few low quiet squeaks and a quick flick round revealed a fox at around the 100yds mark. Alas it was directly in line with a house on the horizon and though the back stop was ok better dafe than sorry. We moved 50ysds to our right to get a better angle on the fox and as aged companion threw himself in the mud ( ancient joints a creakin') on with the lamp and mr fox is still there. No mistake from D.E.D and at a paced 107yds his high speed v max did the trick.

Of course it was a very easy shot, off the bipod, foxy just sat there if he had been any good like your humble scribe when he shot this field his results could have been much better

But of course for one so aged we make allowances so well done.

Nice shooting mate and a "Hat Trick" at that!

Can we have a few less remarks about us "old uns" with creaking joints please, just remember that you might well end up old and withered one day? :) lol

Us Oldies know a thing or two, such as using the right calibre :hmm: - Gonna was using my 223 when he shot those 3 tame, unwise foxes.

I could tell a tale about him trying to shoot foxes with his 'overgunned' 243, but modesty prevents me recalling this shameful episode :good::yes: As I always say about his deerstalking exploits - how can you miss a target the size of a cow :yes:

Strange thing - he always finds the muddiest, wettest part of the field for me to lie down in when getting on the bipod :hmm::lol:

We make a good team though - now and again - when I am doing the shooting.

I surpose that if it wasn't for us "Old Uns" showing the young uns how to do things nothing would ever get done right, would it?:lol::no:

It's when you have to tell them time and time again that it gets a bit weary.

Now in my day us young uns got it right first time - always.

These young uns nowadays know nowt about nothing......
